Can anybody tell me what's your Favorite angle of 1 wtc, minds is from Broadway up to Vessy street when you see the three corners of the roof , with the triangular sides tapering upwards.

Either from the Verrazano bridge or going down West side Highway.

The Twin Towers footprints were 208 ft wide and 1 WTC's footprint is 200 ft wide, is that because the concrete base tapers inward slightly on 1 WTC?. If that is the reason will the new square base covering make it 208ft again?.

I would think so. They decided against the chamfered corners tapered inward and it will be an even box, which is OK by me, because it will look better, than the original plan.

3 Bidders Left to Run World Trade Center Observatory
By CHARLES V. BAGLI

When the building opens in 2014, millions of visitors a year are expected to pay about $25 each to be whisked from the basement of the skyscraper to a three-level attraction more than 1,230 feet above the street, on floors 100 through 102. Revenues, experts say, should exceed $100 million annually.

The observatory, which will offer unobstructed views of the city, New York Harbor, Westchester County, Long Island and New Jersey, will compete against similar attractions at Top of the Rock, at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, and the Empire State Building, whose observatory decks attract four million visitors and generate $60 million a year in profits.

In recent years, observatories have become big businesses. The new observatory downtown is expected to take some market share from its competitors. It has the capacity to handle five million visitors a year.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which is desperately searching for new sources of revenue, hopes that it has found one in the observatory.

The Port Authority, which owns 1 World Trade Center in partnership with the Durst real estate family, quietly notified the three firms on Tuesday night that they had emerged from a list of eight contestants. The losing bidders include Aramark, a national food services company; Ripley Entertainment, an entertainment company that operates museums and aquariums; and the Empire State Building Company...

The redesigned "Spire" still includes the communication rings at the base. They will be empty at first until clients are found at which point the dishes will be added. The only thing that was removed was the radome.

Don't be fooled by what "appears" to be. Durst has already stated its intentions to turn this into a "world class broadcasting facility. Read between the lines, or don't. It will be plain for everyone to see exactly what it is soon enough.

http://www.panynj.gov/wtcprogress/press_releasesItem.cfm?headLine_id=1567

The Port Authority Board today approved an agreement with The Durst Organization to allow a new state-of-the-art, premier broadcast facility to be built on top of One World Trade Center. Under the agreement, The Durst Organization – the Port Authority’s partner in One World Trade Center and one of the most respected developers in the real estate industry – will oversee the construction and operation of the broadcast facility that will service television and radio broadcasters.

Given the 1,776-foot height of the tower, including the building’s 408-foot antenna, the facility will generate significant interest from major broadcasters. The facility will be marketed along with a broadcast tower atop 4 Times Square, also operated by The Durst Organization.

“Broadcasting from the top of One World Trade Center is both an economic and symbolic achievement,” said Jonathan (Jody) Durst, President of The Durst Organization. “It’s hard to imagine a more appropriate setting of this state-of-the-art broadcast facility than the pinnacle of the world’s most iconic building. At the same time, the facility would serve as a source of ongoing revenue for the property.” The Durst Organization will invest the approximately $34 million needed to create the new broadcast and antenna facility and to market and operate it together with its existing broadcast facility at 4 Times Square.

Does anybody else wonder how the tower would look if it were cladded with a grey tinted glass and not blue? Just looking at a few renders and noticed it would kind of resemble the orginal twins.

Regarding the question from a few pages back by chris123678 :previous: The two photos above are a perfect example of the chameleon like characteristics of 1 WTC. No tint on the glass. It just reflects what it sees.

3 Bidders Left to Run World Trade Center Observatory

By CHARLES V. BAGLI

And then there were three.

A French firm, a Canadian outfit and the company that runs the stadiums for the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Yankees are the finalists in a fierce eight-way competition to operate what will be one of the highest and presumably most lucrative observatories in the nation, at 1 World Trade Center, according to bidders and other executives involved in the bidding process.

Initially, the Port Authority had considered opening a high-end restaurant at the top of the tower similar to Windows on the World, which was destroyed in the 2001 terrorist attack. But it concluded that a full-fledged restaurant would slow the flow of visitors. In their bids, the three finalists all included food options as well as event space for private parties.

The finalists are:

•Legends Hospitality Management, a company owned by the New York Yankees, the Dallas Cowboys and David W. Checketts, which runs food services and merchandise sales at a number of stadiums and arenas.

•GSM Projects, a Canadian company, is working with Danny Meyer, who owns a stable of restaurants, including Blue Smoke, Union Square Cafe and the Shake Shack chain, as well as concessions at Citi Field and the Saratoga Race Course.

•Montparnasse 56 USA, an affiliate of the French firm that runs an observatory and restaurant at the Montparnasse Tower in Paris. In July, the company bought the observatory on the 94th floor of the John Hancock Center in Chicago. For the food services of the New York venture, Montparnasse has enlisted the Gerber Group, which operates the Whiskey Blue, Lilium and Living Room bars in New York, and Marc Murphy, the chef who owns the Landmarc restaurants in New York.

Thanks fore the new photos NYDominates, I love the one with the old twins in it. You keep finding good ones to post!

NY Guy, I did not mean any harm about the Fresh Kills Park photo or people in the photo, it just looked like some strange stuff going on when viewed out of its full original context.
It looks like it will be an awesome park with an unreal view.

I hope at least the US owned firm gets to run the observation deck, but I'll gladly take who ever does a good job and keeps the prices fair.

I cant imagine the size of the line & waiting time to see the top when its done.
ESB is charging arround $65 for a fast pass to the top.
Anyone have a guess at what they will charge or what the rules & restrictions will be at 1WTC?

I'm still mad the security at the Statue of Liberty X-Rayed my camera film after asking them to hand search my camera bag way back when.....Thank God for Digital Cameras.

I have a few questions about 1WTC, so indulge me

1.) So this tower will have just one skylobby on the 64th or 65th floor?
2.) The mechanical vents, near the top of the tower, will they be totally open to the outside, or will there be like a screen or something to keep birds and stuff out, but air circulating?
3.) I know that so far they haven't found tenants for the 70th-90th floors. Any big front-runners for those 20 high floors?
4.) Lastly, what will be the main access street for the tower? Like for emergency vehicles or otherwise? For the Twins, it was West Street because the old plaza had cut off most of the surrounding roads.

Currently we are at approximately 22 panels below the top of the parapet (and at the rate the glass is going up, it won't be completed until second quarter of 2013).

Answering these to the best of my knowledge

1. One Skylobby on floor 64.
2.Here's a quote from Otie on SSC

No, the glass at plenums won't be like at Four's facade, each panel will be mostly covered by glass with some vertical slots completely empty.
And a picture
http://imageshack.us/a/img805/9544/millerhare.jpg
4. No major tenants for the high floors.

I have no idea to the last question.

Most likely Fulton Street, although I'm sure Vesey and West will be used if necessary as well.

Makes sense, Fulton will run just north of the tower, so it would give easy access....But I'd figure they will use West Street as the main entrance? Will there be a turn-in or off-road for the tower on West Street like there was with the North Tower? Also, the North Tower had an awning over it's main entrance on West Street..Will 1WTC have such a thing, for business people, emergency vehicles, etc...so they will have some protection from the elements as they enter the tower?

Most likely Fulton Street, although I'm sure Vesey and West will be used if necessary as well.

FDNY Haz-Tac EMT here. Can't/won't comment specifically, but EMS members stationed around that area (and myself, but in a different capacity) have been given in-depth tours of the area and several contingency plans exist surrounding emergencies at the new World Trade Center (of which, there have already been a few). Several specialist ambulances have been assigned around the area for any incident that may arise. Specialized police units are also assigned to the area, and I'm aware that the Fire side of the FDNY has already done these specialized tours and contingency plans exist for them as well. This truly will be one of the safest areas in the entire city, in terms of 911 resources.

I don't see how that would be disrespectful (seriously, people are eventually going to have to move past the tragedy. We should remember the past, but not wallow in it), but I agree that he'll almost certainly never reach the top just due to security.

I.) I know that so far they haven't found tenants for the 70th-90th floors. Any big front-runners for those 20 high floors?

Durst was said to be withholding the top floors off the market until such time rates are up where they should be. Makes sense, these floors should command top prices, and whoever signs there will sign for a while. They don't want to be locked into a substandard lease at a time when the market gets hot again. I don't know where they stand with that, but the website has been up and running.

A look at leasing options here...

Fulton is just south of the tower, but there will be access on all sides. The entrances will be covered. The West Street entrance will be for tourist who will take an escalator down for entrance to the observation deck. The northern, or Vesey Street entrance is the one that will give the tower a different height than the one commonly repeated in the media. It's about 5 ft lower than the Fulton Street entrance where the height was originally taken from (unless that's changed as well). From the Vesey Street entrance, workers will walk up a flight of stairs to enter the lobby.

Here's an older floorplan where you can see the two flights of stairs from the Vesey Street entrance.

Perhaps because it's really just symbolic at this point....for all practical purposes the tower was topped out weeks ago. All that was missing were a few spandrel beams at the very tippy top. :)

So which of the tower's street level entrances will be considered the main entrance? Will there be awnings above the entrance ways to protect from elements? How about turn-ins off the main streets for traffic arriving at the tower? Just curious, I haven't seen a detailed rendering of how the tower itself will connect to the streets below.

Judging by the layout depicted below, I'd say that the west entrance is specifically for the observation deck visitors (and possibly future restaurant patrons), the north and south entrances are specifically for the office workers, and the east entrance is primarily for access to the shopping concourse (and the WFC & PATH as a consequence).

I remember some 1WTC renders that depicted awnings over the east and west entrances.

Most of the service traffic to 1WTC will happen deep underground, originating from the Vehicle Security Center. As for tourists, probably any of the three juxtaposed streets (Vesey, West, Fulton). As for office workers... I'm not sure whether there's a parking lot for them underground, can someone clear that up for me?

^^^ Aaaand that is what I get for taking a phone call while I write my post. The render is outdated, though. that whole western plaza has been butchered in the name of "safety." I guess a thousand traffic bollards won't be enough to stop a car.

FDNY Haz-Tac EMT here. Are the FDNY and NYPD sharing radio frequencies from now on? Do you at the very least have radios that are compatible so that you can speak to one another in the case of an attack? Not a criticism, but it is something that should be addressed by someone in both the FDNY and NYPD. Of course, I understand if you can't address this directly either.

I believe that the North, South, and East entrances are all for tenants. The West entrance is the tourist entrance, and this is also the mini-plaza that Durst decided to do some budgeting on. Removed the nice little fountain and replaced the staircases along West street with a giant ugly wall in the form of a planter. He also removed the staircases against the west side of the building that people could sit on. All of this is doubly stupid because the infrastructure for that fountain is already in place.

As for awnings, I think each entrance will have a small awning that juts out over the doors. Not as big as the original 1 WTC's awning on West Street, though.

It'll look something like this. Western stairs removed, fountain removed, and the lounging stairs next to the tower removed (they are still on this diagram). The big black thing is the planter.

I visited the Twin Towers in 1992 before the 93 bombing and there was some kind of underground entrance I remember. But I remember clearly that there was ramps off of West Street for vehicles pulling up to the lobby entrance of the North Tower. And there were turn-ins for cars there to go under that large glass awning over the front of the North Tower. I remember because we walked across a pedway on the north side of the North Tower and looked down onto West Street. Then we walked back onto the plaza and entered the South Tower from the north entrance and went to the observation deck.

I'm a bit confused. If the tower has topped out, I don't recall any big ceremony or anything...It would have seemed that they would have given that moment a lot of publicity...So what gives? Has it in fact topped out but they are just waiting for the parapet to be completed and the antenna installed before they have a big ceremony with dignitaries? I thought the topping out meant when the final roof-height beam was installed....So what's going on with that.
