Does anybody know what the deal is with the base facade glass? I know they dropped the original plans with the orginal glass but do any of you know if they decided what new glass they are going to use in the future? Thank you

People are gonna hate me for saying this, but I almost don't mind if towers 2 and 3 aren't built because 1wtc will look taller and more dominant if it's by itself, towering over everything else nearby.

Roadcruiser1
Aug 17, 2011, 5:26 PM
You think Tower 1 is dominant then you thought wrong. Tower 2 & 3 will be just as dominant, and those three towers will be large shadow casters like the original Twin Towers were.

It's getting put into storage for a bit pretty soon. I think it'll go in Liberty Park, which will be just south of the memorial.

So, even if it does not end up "in" the memorial, it should still be pretty visible.

Of course any post now we will all be warned this is off topic... Sheesh! A little leeway once in a while would enhance the thread ... But until then...

...The Sphere cannot be placed in its old, exact, geographic position. That would place it right in the middle of the soon-to-be-re-opened Greenwich Street, right in front of the Transit Hub.

A nice place for it would be nearby, South of the yet-to-be-determined Performing Arts Center.

Actually, it wouldn't. People don't want to (and shouldn't have to) sift through various off topic posts just to get to the relevant posts. It's especially annoying because there's no need for it. Anybody can use PMs for off topic commentary, or simply use the appropriate thread. It's not hard to do.

Is there any rendering of One World Trade Center base? Whats gonna looks like? Because i think old rendering are out because they cancelled a project for glass on the base i think...Are there new rendering for the complex, not the old ones we already all saw... i meean, recent renderings? Thnks

Well, we don't actually have any idea what the new cladding for the base will be like. We don't even know for sure what what kind of glass or whatever other material they're gonna use... Simply put, there have been no recent renderings to show off the new base cladding. I believe it's still in the works.

You are correct about that. Since the glass can't be brought in we don't know what the base will be covered with, but the lower 5 stories of the base will compose of concrete while the rest will consist of mechanical floors. Well if anyone does want to see this is the original rendering of the base of One WTC.

WTC 1 and 4 in this view would also be reminiscent of the Twin Towers. Just look closely.WTC 4 acts just like old WTC 2

A nice place for it would be nearby, South of the yet-to-be-determined Performing Arts Center.

http://i.imgur.com/PrSxn.jpg (http://imgur.com/PrSxn)

nice, i actually wouldn't mind seeing it at the utmost south-east corner of the Transportation Hub block, right under the "wing"... that way, it could be sorta like a public art sculpture... but of course people would say that the "wing" will cover it,

nonetheless, i think it's important that this thing should come back to the site where it belongs and was meant to be,

Poor Beekman. It looks so out of place in that picture. I'm not saying it's a bad building, but it looks lonely.

Back on topic - while the lack of progress in vertical height has been odd, it's been more surprising not to see any progress on the metal decking. I would at least expect to see that go up, even if the concrete workers are having issues with contracts.

I'm so happy to be in New York now to be able to see this landmark before it's built~ I hope I'll be back when it is finished! I took a couple of picture from Rockefeller Center yesterday. It will have an amazing impact!

Hopefully this weekend I will see it up close.

This whole Ice cream swirl/Narwhal tusk thing is news to me. None of my material shows anything like that. The scan you've posted doesn't show the kind of geometric twist the DC render does.

I thought so as well but the nodes were installed at the same speed as the other steel recently. Maybe attaching the floors to these nodes takes longer?
