^Wow, that glass is dirty. I can hardly wait to see this beast all spiffied up with freshly washed glass. On a sunny day like that, you may have to avert your eyes from the glare.

I see that they are starting to paint all of the base concrete grey. Does anyone know why they are painting the base concrete spacers grey? Will the base cladding start on exactly October 1st? How long will base cladding take to finish? Can't wait see those revolving glass doors and regular glass doors on 1 wtc! :):)

My guess is that they are painting the base to match the color of the spray-on fireproofing that is being applied to the base steel, that way it will look uniform when viewed through the glass.

There will be a metal grid behind the glass, so you won't see the concrete anyway.

They're painting it to give it a more pleasurable look under the panels, I believe. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Hmmmmm, I wonder when the cleaning process will start on this. I assume once all outside work (including cladding, mast, & base) are done, they will start to clean. Once the building is up and running, how long does it typically take to clean the entire outside. Any know how long it took the Twins to get done?

On pictures of new base, we see that Freddom Tower's base is going to be a perfect cube, without angular corners..
But the problem is that currently the base HAS angular corners, because when it was built , plans of the tower included these corners..
And now, that's what I was wondering about:
are they going to fill the useless corners with concrete? or will the four corners stay vacuum behind the glass facade ???
thanks for your answers :)

Hopefully, what you just said rings a very dusted bell inside Durst's head. What's saving a few million bucks worth if something that can last longer than that is reduced to a cheap knock-up of its former self?

The permanent structure is topped out at the blue netting. Those steel beams going up are temporary. They will be used to jump the cranes so that the "Spiretenna" can be erected..as well as rooftop equipment.

On a somewhat similar note. How tall would that make this building, over the 2,000-foot mark? Yeah, thanks to that federal mandate on building height, nothing that tall will never be built in this country. :(

Yeah, thanks to that federal mandate on building height, nothing that tall will never be built in this country. :(
Ehhh, I wouldn't say that. They're almost ready to approve the new world's tallest building "Metropolis" in Miami, that's gonna be over 2k feet and 650m. On another note, I honestly had no clue what was wrong with that design until I realized how the darker shaded floors were messed up. That looks nice but that design would look better with an antenna in my humble opinion.

The base makes it look awkward. But I would have preferred that this happen if it could. At least it would have been truly America's tallest building either way.

I'm losing track of what steel is permanent and what's temporary crane structure. If the cranes needs to reach past the CG of the top section they will need to be something like 350' above the base. Seems like they'll have to be guyed or braced to the guyed lower tower section at that height.
It's Miapolis, not Metropolis, it's 3200 ft and it's only a fantasy.

Actually it looks like the post-communist Russian flag, with the colours stacked, rather than standing side by side. Or better yet, one of those "bomb-pops". Those large red white and blue popsicles, that you might find at a supermarket. The ones shaped like a rocket.

you're wrong, man. The russian "white, blue and red" flag from Russia exists since 120 years.
It was the flag of the Empire of Russia LONG BEFORE the communist revolution.
It's not "post-communist": they just adopted their former flag

To me, 1 World Trade Center looks like the Dutch Flag. :) Maybe it is meant to be seen as either the US flag, or the French or Dutch flag because they helped us win our independence, like previously said. If they wanted to make it look like just the US flag, then they would make red/white stripes and white stars on a blue background. :) 1 World Trade is awesome!!!

One World Trade Center will look much taller and more imposing once all the glass reaches the top. This will make it look sleeker, more streamlined, and as tall as the Twins.
About the glass, I know the Twins uses an aluminum cladding and had a rigid external skeleton of steel, with glass in between the columns, but this tower seems like it will be totally encased in glass, covering all of the steel skeleton. How are they attaching the glass to the steel? Is it shatter proof all the way up?

one of the main design ideas behind 2 WTC is to be a marker for the memorial. You can't have that with this design if the building is shifted in any direction.

Could someone answer my question about the glass? Since the building will be totally covered in glass, over the steel skeleton, unlike the Twins, which had external columns, are they using a special type of glass, that will be shatter proof and stand up to the high winds at 1300 feet? Also how is the glass fastened to the steel? If, god forbid, something hit the tower, would the glass shatter all over or did they bomb-proof it? Is it like some type of super plexi-glass? Just wondering, since the panels are such a major part of the tower, thanks!

none of the structural steel of the twins was exposed, the columns had layers of insulation, fireproofing, and finally a thin aluminum cladding. The glass in both the old and new towers is not connected to the structural steel directly. the glass is in 5' wide by 13'4" tall panels. The glass is probably laminated safety glass. there is no such thing as bomb proof, only blast resistant, The first panels of office glass are 180 odd feet above the street for starters and the glass already has to be thick to cope with massive wind loads.
