What do you do with a 23' high office floor?

1. Play basketball in the conference room.

2. Prove to everyone who comes in to your office that you were better at picking office space than they were. :notacrook:

Want to look out from the top of One World Trade Center? The line starts forming in 2014.

Last month, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and Durst Organization, began a formal search for companies to run the observation deck at the top of what is to be North America’s tallest tower.

The port authority and Durst, which jointly control the under-construction tower, are planning a three-story observation deck that would open in summer 2014, according to a copy of a request for qualifications sent out to potential operators. Set to take up the 100th, 101st and 102nd floors of the building, the owners want to find an operator by mid-2012.]

Well, it's certainly the second tallest building in New York City if you are talking about surpassing the roof of the BOA tower.

The Bank of America Tower's roof is 945 ft high. Spire is 1,200.

One World Trade Center is apparently at 1,100 ft right now. So just 100 ft to go and it will technically be called the "second tallest building in Manhattan.."

well stated Carlos......i almost feel guilty that we have had the privilege of seeing this on here, thanks to you and a bunch of others, and the vast majority of our fellow Americans have not and a lot of those are still in disbelief that this gorgeous tower is even at this stage though the 10th anniversary of 9/11 did raise a lot of eyebrows . thanks again for all you and the others do:worship:

Just because One World Trade Center would be complete on 2013 doesn't mean the observation deck would open on 2013. When the exterior part of the building is complete the interior parts of the building also takes time.

Right, but when I see the words, "completed" I think the whole building is done and ready for use.

Not really. The original World Trade Center Twin Towers were opened on 1970, and 1971, but the observation decks didn't come into service till 1975, and the Windows On The World restaurant didn't open till 1976.

In the trailer, you can see at the very first scene in the aerial shot, the World Trade Center was slightly rising.

This picture you see above was shot in November 2010. So exactly a year from now, the tower has reached 1,100 ft and has dominated the whole lower Manhattan skyline! :D

1 World Trade gets its glass pedestal
After months of effort, and one failed plan, architect devises an appealing skin for 185-foot-tall, fortified-concrete base of New York's tallest building-to-be.

By Theresa Agovino
November 4, 2011

The architect of 1 World Trade Center has finally devised a way to clad the concrete base of the tower in shimmery glass. The breakthrough comes after technical problems forced designers to abandon an earlier glass-sheathing plan last spring, sources said.

...sources said the base will be covered with glass louvers that are set at different angles on the base and lit from behind, creating an inviting atmosphere that would also reflect the nearby memorial honoring the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks. The glass is treated so it would pebble instead of shatter in case of an explosion, much like a car windshield does in a severe accident.

Sources said the building's majority owner, the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, has already received bids for what sources said would be about $45 million in glass. The Port Authority's board is to be briefed on the plans and bids in the next two weeks. A spokesman for the Port Authority declined comment. Mr. Childs didn't return a call.

^^^ Haha, how has no one taken the name "SearsTower" before? Welcome!

Anyhow, that plan for the pedestal sounds really cool. The only question is how well it will integrate with the rest of the design which seems really formal to me.

AIG moved out, is anyone occupying it right now? It looks completely empty.

A damn shame too, it's by and far my favorite skyscraper of all time.

I'm fairly sure that it's being converted to residential use.

I just think 70 Pine Street is going through a phase of denial that it is once again no longer the tallest in Lower Manhattan... LOL

It's like the perfect skyline. A modern day Mont St Michel.

that's for sure, this tower is turning out to be an honest to goodness iconic tower. it more than fits in as New York's new tallest. wow! what a view!:slob:

After AIG's collapse in 2008, 70 Pine St was eventually sold to developer Youngwoo & Associates in 2009. Plans include leasing the lower floors as office space and converting the upper floor to luxury condiminiums. The former Cities Service Building was designated a New York City Landmark and Interior Landmark in June 2011.[8]

I don't think so. However the mast would shoot out a beam of light into the night sky.

The beacon at the top of the spire is going to flash the letter "N" for New York in morse code
