i've been told that 1WTC would be topped out (= reach 417 meters) during the first quarter of 2012.
someone knows when will the windows be complete ??
i suppose it must be completed during autumn 2012, no ?
Well tower 1 will be topped out by the 4th quarter of this year or by the 1st quarter of 2012 and glass is expected to be completed in early 2013.

Does anyone know if they found someone to make the glass for the base?
Will the spire be place on the tower immediately after its topped off?
Also when will tower 4 begin the set back, i thought it started at the 48 floor

We don't have many members in the buildings immediately around the site, seems the main one is Patapsco who works in One Liberty Plaza. Carlos lives much farther away although he gets amazing detail anyway, I assume with telephoto lenses.
It looks like from your vantage point, you could make some important contributions to the T2, T3 and T4 threads as well. ;)
I was wondering, what building do you work in? The Millennium Hilton?

i suppose everyone noticed that the upper floors will have a smaller surface than the first floors, because of the shape of the tower..
and this is why i suppose that the upper floors of the tower which are not yet built will be probably shorter to build than the first ones..
am i right ? :)

The upper floors will take a bit less of time, I'd say hardly noticeable. The higher this tower goes, the less materials it needs (i.e. rebar, concrete pouring, decking, spandrel and floor beams) also the perimeter columns get lighter (even though they keep the same dimensions), the core uses less compressive strenght, perhaps 8,000 psi), and above the office and broadcast floors it changes again getting even smaller.
On the other hand, the higher it goes, the more time the tower cranes need to lift. Also keep in mind that once the tower is above the skyscraper jungle, both construction workers and tower cranes start to experience really hard problems with wind forces, more precautions are taken and usually delays happen because of the inablity of cranes to work in such conditions.
What I don't know is how the things will look like once the tower reaches the mechanical floors; yes they have higher ceilings and the core is considerably smaller, but there's still a lot of mechanical stuff that needs to be placed on its right position before they jump to higher floors.

Yes for sure, the weight per foot decreases the higher the tower goes... the loads must be lower at the top and heavy and strong enough at the base so it can support part of the structure... While all columns have a W14 at the center, the lower columns located at the podium and below grade use side plates that add strenght and heaviness.. We know that at the podium they used a W14x730* size column with side plates but we do not know the precise weight of the columns at the almost entire tower.. only the ones that have the blueprints know the whole information related to the columns, we people are supposed not to know that kind of data since it's supposed to be kept secret.

*"W" for wide flange beam, 14 for the section height and the 730 number is the weight per foot.

@ Otie:
yeah you're right for the cranes and the winds, i didn't thought about this.. even if the modern cranes must be resistant, and the security systems avoid risks (the blue walls at the top of the tower...) !
but, as i've seen, the upper floors of the freedom tower will for most of them mechanical floors... that's why i suppose that these floors need less time to be built, because it's not necessary to fit out the inside...

What are the core dimensions? From previous construction pictures I can tell its @ 100 by 100 feet, but what are the exact dimensions?
And for last, is the core gonna be a rectangle shape at the top floors?

Does anyone know when in 2013 the One World Trade Center observatory will be open to the public? I wonder if they are shooting for the 40th anniversary of the original twin towers which was dedicated April 4, 1973 and thus 40 years later would be April 4, 2013. The only information I have seen is sometime in 2013, curious if anyone knows anything more specific.

I kind of wish that the architect and the PA had chosen the glass on 4WTC. I understand the concept of openness that they're trying to achieve, but aesthetically, I prefer that grey reflective look than the blue hue that we'll get whenever it's not sunny - which is most of the time in NYC. It's just a personal preference, but I don't think it's going to end up looking as silver as the latest renderings show. I think it's going to look blue from most angles.
*Note: The windows currently have more of a matte finish because they've never been washed, so they're extremely dirty and more opaque than they will be. If you don't believe me, look at the difference between the top row of glass and that of the glass just two rows below with respect to transparency and color.

I'd like to know this too, o I can visit soon after it opens! Would be great if the deck opens near the anniversary of the twin towers being finished. I know there will only be an indoor deck, which will be great, but I hope some worker will treat us to a clip from outside on top of the roof when it's done

Sincerely I absolutely don't realize why in the title there is written 108 floores. They are only 82 ( to see emporis.com ). I think that 1 floor MUST HAVE a roof. The Eiffel Tower has 3 floores and not 100, even it is high more than 300 m !!
Also in this other site http://www.glasssteelandstone.com/BuildingDetail/439.php the numbers of floores is 82..........
Thank for a possible reply.

The original towers had 110 floors @1,300+ feet (400+ m), this tower has the same roof height and has 108 floors. I don't see what the problem is.

STR, I have a question for you. I'm working on my own diagram, what are the elevations in feet and inches for the base of Tower 1 from the lobby all the way up to elevation 186' 8", always wondered about that. Also, on floor 102, is there another floor that goes up higher to elevation 1,278 or something like that? I also need the heights from the parapet all the way to the communication ring. I have all the other elevations but those I don't know for sure, could really use your expertise. Thanks.

1WTC will have 85 floors. Just because there's a 104th floor, it doesn't mean there's 103 more between it and the ground.

jeez, what's with you people always complaining about the floor number? mechanical floors are taller than office floors, so you can count them twice actually. a regular office floor is 13'4'', and the tower is 1373' to roof. just do the math and you'll get your respective floor number: 103.

Don't worry about it. People will always find something to complain about. The designated floors are what they are, we don't get a say in it.

This isn't a city vs. city debate so please don't make it one. In any case, a cloudless day rate of 29% is still in the vast minority, so thanks for providing the evidence that I was right...
