I don't believe the newly installed glass has ever had plastic on it. The new glass appears different because it's fresh from the factory and still clean. The glass below is dirty from construction debris and city pollution and will stay that way until the tower is complete and washed for the first time.

We have yet to see how bright this tower will shine when complete. Stock up on your sunglasses.

I watched Amazing SpiderMan this summer, and I had the feeling that they were trying to hide the tower all the movie long :(

Same thing for Avengers: there's only one half-second in the whole movie where you can see it :(

Yeah, that was just wishful thinking. Still, cool to see them include the finished product of something, but I guess that's just it. It may not exist in its entirety now, but it will some day (that being next year). :)

The reason they don't show 1WTC is so it doesn't give age to a film.Once construction is completed,maybe than they will began to show WTC a lot more.But many movies and shows have shown it even though it's under construction.

If you are referring to the image before your post, the top arrow is pointing out the base of the former north crane's mast that is being removed by the new red one on the corner that is slightly taller than the south crane in the picture. The lower arrow is pointing to the row of new glass.

Don't worry too much about "U.S. people." I've seen the site shown on too many occasions for it to be considered "hidden", even in the incomplete state that it's in. As for if it will be seen more once it's completed, that should go without saying.

ADF Steel Corp., a structural steel fabricator, was sued over claims it failed to deliver materials needed to complete the antenna at 1 World Trade Center in Manhattan. ADF is holding “hostage” steel that would form the spire on the structure because of an unrelated contract dispute, the building’s owner, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, said in a lawsuit filed yesterday in New York State Supreme Court.

“ADF refuses to ship this antenna steel unless and until it receives approximately $6 million allegedly owed under another project, as ransom,” the Port Authority said in the complaint.

ADF had explicitly promised it wouldn’t withhold steel for the spire, which costs $10 million, regardless of the previous contract dispute, according to the complaint. About 100 ironworkers could be laid off if “they have no steel to erect,” the Port Authority warned.

The Port Authority asked the court for an order requiring ADF to deliver the steel. “Due to the iconic character of 1 WTC Tower and the enormous complexities surrounding its erection, leasing and opening, money damages cannot adequately compensate for the harm ADF is causing with every passing day that it refuses to deliver the antenna steel,” the lawyers said in the complaint.

A Canadian company is holding the steel needed to build the new World Trade Center’s antenna “hostage” for millions of dollars — jeopardizing the completion date for the tower and at least 100 iron-worker jobs, court papers charge. The building reached 104 stories in August, but is expected to reach 1,776 feet when the antenna is done.

“When it is complete, the building known as 1 World Trade Center will be the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere and a symbol of the recovery of New York City, New York state and the United States from the terrorist attacks of 9/11,” the Manhattan Supreme Court suit says. But, the Port Authority’s WTC Tower 1 LLC says in court papers that it can’t happen unless ADF Steel stops trying to shake them down and ships the rest of the metal they desperately need to finish the project.

The “only remaining steel to be erected is the steel comprising the antenna structure for the top of 1 WTC Tower,” the Manhattan Supreme Court suit says. The “unique custom pieces of steel,” including the antenna mast, antenna ring steel and roof nodes,” were supposed to begin shipping on Sept. 24, the suit says.

Now we'll probably hear a news report saying that the Tower will likely open in Spring of 2015. Hopefully it won't come to that but it always seems every project keeps getting pushed back a year as we enter a new year. I feel Tower 4 is the only project besides 7 WTC and the 9/11 Memorial to stay on schedule.

And yes - 1/4 WTC both really do look like that in person. The picture by b=dogg in NYGuy's post is a pretty close representation of what 1 WTC looks like as you're walking up to it on Vesey. A building that starts out with a base that is literally an acre in size is MASSIVE. And really, really, really wide. I've said it before in previous posts... You just get hit out of nowhere seeing 1 and 4 WTC in person as you walk out of the Financial District. Or even when you exit the E train station and walk up to street level on Church St (right in front of the WTC complex). It's literally... WHAM! Their sheer size and girth just smacks you right in the face when you're least expecting it. 7 WTC is so little and so skinny compared to 1 and 4 WTC. 7 WTC is big and pretty in its own right, but it has *nothing* on the first two AT ALL. I don't look up at buildings anymore when I visit NYC, but 1 WTC is one building I STILL love to look up at when I see it in person. :)

Hey, maybe they caught wind of the radome, or lack thereof. Although, looking at it seriously, there is no chance we could service a panel near the top of the spire after the cranes are gone. They would have to use a helicopter to keep it from slapping the spire on the way up and damaging both the replacement panel and other panels. There is no way in Hell that any one would let a helicopter fly that close to the tower with a foam and fiberglass kite underneath it. Further more, how would riggers climb the spire without causing damage or getting slapped by the aforementioned kite. It can't be done SAFELY. that is why we are getting a skeleton. The next big nightmare of planning will be avoiding this:

Try a 3-4 billion dollar building,, held up by a 40 million dollar spire,, which would be (for the people).. that's much worse than what the Canadian company is doing with a 6 million dollar antennae (to Durst Bag).. give credit for durst bag to another user can't remeber who started it.

The port authority only have themselves to blame, if this tower is not ready by 2014. If they owe $6 million then they need to pay in lump sum or make arrangements to pay off what is owed. Yeah but you're counting the old 7 WTC which was really not part of the original project. The Twin Towers and the support low-rise buildings (minus the hotel) were built by 1975.

In essence, the company BUILT every part of the spire as exchange of being fully paid by Durst and the PA. If you made something and and the last minute the person you were going to sell it to decides they don't want the whole anymore, wouldn't you be angry?

i'm not getting my hopes up either, but that does make sence, in the article with the law suit, there was a line saying the custom pieces for the spire, not pieces for an antenna, idk im probally wrong like usual though, but i hope your right :D
