is that schedule published anywhere? Its just that for those of us who don't look in to these pictures with a fine tooth comb pretty much nothing has happened in several months except half the core has risen 1-2 floors (and I probably wouldn't even notice that if nobody had pointed it out)...

I wonder how this ridiculously bad weather is affecting construction at the WTC. For those of you not around here, it's basically rained the entire month.

Gosh this weather seriously does suck. This time of year is Japan's "rainy season" but NY's 2009 June takes the prize in my mind. It's so depressing.

If you are curious, most progress has been made in bringing the floors themselves up to street level, and bringing the northernmost columns above the Vesey street overhang, along with the removal of the overhang itself, (which is underway).

No, it will never be scrapped. It is symbolic.

Many times it has been confirmed by the PA that even if the building can't get broadcasters to use the spire as an antennae, it will still be built purely as an ornament.

The last N. Core jump earlier this month was a little less than six weeks after the previous jump, much, much faster than previously. I expect the next N. Core jump, which will be the one to bring it to that steel overhang, to be by the end of July. Things are coming together!

I'm sure someone there can tell me: Are they mostly building the underground facilities (subway, utility, etc.) right now? One World Trade's foundation had to go in first, now the undergound facilities that run through it and after that is in place they will be able to start on the tower.

Interesting to see the South crane being supported by the steel framework.

pretty much all high "super tall" constructions are done this way, it's the only way to get the crane up the whole time. As they start adding floors, the crane will be lifted up, and the floors filled in behind where it had been. It'll continue this wall right up to the very top, then it's dissassembled and just like that, you have a skyscraper.

I'm sure someone there can tell me: Are they mostly building the underground facilities (subway, utility, etc.) right now? One World Trade's foundation had to go in first, now the undergound facilities that run through it and after that is in place they will be able to start on the tower.

The Subway / Path had been rebuilt years ago, although because of the removal of the temporary entrance, the Courtland St. subway stations are closed. They've been progressing steadily on the sub basement levels across the whole site. For those wondering why it's taking so long (now), remember that it's 4 construction sites in one crampt 19-acre whole in lower manhattan (not the easiest place to get the material to). I say now, because a lot of the delay previously was for stupid reasons.

Construction Pour: One WTC Plaza Takes Shape

http://curbednetwork.com/cache/gallery/2432/3678873159_5e0a1878b9_o.jpg

Wednesday, July 1, 2009, by Lockhart

Further evidence that the One World Trade Center tower will actually exist: this epic concrete pour, which, per Port Authority public relations executives, took 14 hours and used the equivalent of six miles worth of sidewalk concrete. This plaza, on the eastern side of One WTC, includes a fountain—see that large circle? Fountain!—and concrete boxes where Swamp White Oaks will one day grow. For the true concrete junkies amongst us, there's an epic two-minute time-lapse video of the pour. Pour, baby, pour!

I remember when this was just a hole in the ground a couple years ago. Now look at it! Amazing, it took a while but it was worth it.

Anyways, that doesn't look right? Or is it? The pour was in the North fountain right? And where did the circle come from? I don't see any circles in any memorial renderings.

Gallons and Gallons of Concrete Shape Plaza at Ground Zero

By Jennifer 8. Lee
July 2, 2009

More than 250,000 gallons of concete were poured spanning 14 hours for 1 World Trade Center starting on Tuesday night, giving shape to the base of a large fountain on the plaza level and boxes where trees will be planted.

The concrete — which would be enough for six miles of city sidewalk — was brought in by 125 trucks and was the largest pour in the construction process to date. “You get a feel of what it looks like street level for the first time,” said Steve Coleman, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. In total, more than 4.5 million gallons have been poured.

“We have been spending the last year and a half building underground infrastructure,” he said. “This finally gets the street level plaza being formed.”

Another significant milestone was the installation of the steel framework for the memorial in January.

The entire process, which ended on noon on Wednesday, was recorded in a time lapse video and made public on the Internet. “You see all these guys like little ants,” said Mr. Coleman.

What kind of yokel measures concrete in gallons? :koko:

A reporters failed attempt to translate the numbers into numbers average people can understand?

It's pretty hard to imagine 250,000 of anything though - never mind 4.5 million. It's much easier for an average person to imagine 1200(ish) cubic yards (metres).

The concrete — which would be enough for six miles of city sidewalk — was brought in by 125 trucks and was the largest pour in the construction process to date.

This is enough to illustrate the magnitude of the pour. No reason to dumb it down with incorrect terminology.

J_M_Tungsten's hunch is correct, this pour was on the east side of the tower, renderings rarely turn out 100% as planned, they just poured the "tree fountain"

the memorial is really shaping out... just like when the twins were being built the north tower had the jump over the south tower, just as the pools are... the north pool is way ahead.. but due to the south pool having to tackle the path .

Nah, it's current. They covered the planter with plywood while I was in town and now it appears as though they are using it as a staging area. Also, the last corner of the memorial pool is now finished. It wasn't like that last week.

Looks like the North Core has finally caught up with the South Core? Only a matter of time.....

Everything else looks to be up at grade? Dare I say that by September the FT will be racing towards the sky! Yes!:notacrook:

Trick of the camera. Still one jump away, and part of the floor in the northwest corner isn't at the same level as the rest. According to someone involved with the project this floor has to catch up before the core is jumped, so I think we have a few weeks left to wait.

Well, they are definitely putting what looks to be something in the one corner. I assume the plans haven't changed. Take a look at the bottom left corner of the tower in this picture. Looks like that stairwell continues to the basement. The others may or may not.

Well, as you can see in the photo shot above, it's just a stump of its former self. Pretty unique, isn't it that it is being deconstructed as opposed to demolished or imploded, or even blown up. I like to say it is being "unbuilt". The only time I can remember a construction crew, unbuilding a tower.

Yes, stairs D E F and G run from below grade to the second floor,as does stair C within the core. On the second floor the four stairs connect to the core stairs A & B. Stair C is for Fire and Rescue personnel only.

At the base, at least. Remember, most floor plates will have eight corners, so it's not clear how that will be resolved.
