Sorry, but I feel this is not the the building I expected. I honestly "Hate" the design! I loved the first design, and understand they changed it because of being sued, but we need a memorial that looks like a memorial from miles and miles away (as the first design)! It's just an average looking building; very very sad! I honestly feel that the owner of this property is just thinking about him and him only! The person incharge of this should be ashamed of him-self!

Uhhhh......what?

I didn't do a very good job of explaining myself. I meant complicated in the fact that you have multiple groups with conflicting interests: firefighters, police, surviving family members, business interests and the politicians. Everything gets screwed up when the damn politicians enter the picture!

I am glad things are going well but I have to wonder how much further along things would be if there was a united front with a clear plan from the beginning?

Patience! This is the most complicated construction project in history (??) taking place. That being said, I agree with you about the construction being late and wanting to see substantial progress. Hopefully by this time next year the steel will start to soar to the sky.

Umm, as a matter of fact, and according to the officials, more steel is to be delivered to Ground Zero on or near year's end, and before or by late winter or early spring, the steel should at least have sprouted or start to spout above street level.

This would be for the infrastructure. The steel for the actual tower itself should start coming before or by next summer sometime.

So far, the tower's construction timetable is operating on or near schedule as planned.;)

Why not just scrap the circle all together? IMO this would look much much better with the spire only. The circle looks tacky and out of place in this tower, as the rest of the building relies on straight lines creating triangular shapes near the top.

I know we are all bored waiting for this tower to rise but leave the design alone. We had five years to bitch about the design and now it is done. The design is OK and it is really really tall that's enough for me.

Agreed. All the bitching about those previous two or three previous putrid travesties, is what resulted in this one, and it is excellent. Initially I would have liked to have the twin towers back, but that was partly due to those ugly buildings that, that Leibeskind nightmare came up with. Gone and good riddance. Thank God for major favours.

I love NYC and I love skyscrapers, but this building is AWFUL with or without the tiara. Building anything less than a massive world-class skyscraper with cutting-edge design is taking the chicken-sh!t route. Saying "we don't want the new WTC to be a target" is like saying "I got this black eye when I ran into the door." Bullsh!t. Your batterer knows they've influenced, if not controlled, the design. Because you added a few flimsy rods around the already very massive, functional spire? No, I don't know what you "mean."

IMO, the Freedom Tower looks good with or without those. I can take it or leave it.

The first major improvement of this project, first and foremost, was getting rid of that awful birdcage design on top.

In the end, we finally got what most of us wanted anyway; A taller occupeid
portion of the tower that is just as tall as the old Twins, if not taller.

This way, the restaurant and obs deck are higher in the sky. That said, I'm quite happy with the present design without any further enhancements on the exterior of the tower.

There are no precise dates given that I know of.

The tower WILL start rising though. This is just an educated or estimated guess as to when some more of the steel will arrive for the underground portion of the tower.

In any office tower being built in New York or elsewhere, times or dates given are usually always Estimated. Because they're not really sure themselves as to exactly WHEN things should happen or are expected to happen, even though they know things are coming. They also sometimes say On or about as well.

I think I read somewhere that there will be another celebration that would allow more people to sign their names on a few more of the columns or beams. But don't quote me on it. This might be just speculation.

People need to stop being so obsessed about exact height definitions. The crown does indeed integrate the spire into the design more; however, both are functional elements that are integral to the building's program. The degree to which the tower "cheats" is really pretty unimportant, unless it clashes with the design in a severe way.

It seems that some are still having a hard time dealing with the fact that the spire finishes out the height of the tower and not the actual structure itself.

We got the same structural height that the Twins had. What more do they want?;)

There is going to be a lot more activity and congestion now that construction has really gotten underway. The movement of West Street was done so the Port Authority could have a buffer zone due to safety concerns - also I believe more cranes and heavy equipment will soon be onsite?

Think things got going this year? Wait'll next year!

The four major towers - ALL of them should be booming by then! The Deutsche Bank Building should also be removed by then and that spot should start being cleared for Tower 5.

Yeah, there were supposed to be two more large cranes coming to help build the Freedom Tower.

The PA doesn't want anything falling on someone such as a pedestrian, now that you mentioned it. Lord knows Ground Zero has had more than its share of tragedies!!

That's correct that there is no observation deck there, but the building does sometimes hold events open to the public. All part of the plan to make the WTC a vital part of the city again...

What does raw space mean? No ceiling panels, floor tiles, walls, rugs or office furniture?

OMG you never the term "raw space"??

it means just that...no partitions, exposed ceiling beams sometimes, bare floors...so you can divide and build the office or residence as you wish basically.......etc

I thought that was what it meant, but I wasn't sure. Haha!!

No, that probably was the first time that I ever heard the term used. But I figured it out pretty much by seeing that floor in 7 WTC with no walls or ceiling panels installed.

Thanx for the answer!

Only about a few more months before we begin seeing more steel arrive and put in place for the infrastructure.

Did they ever bring back that cornerstone and place it at the base of the foundation like they had prematurely done a three or four years ago?

How come we haven't heard anything about it?
