WOW!! VERY nice Leap Day progress! This is truly exciting! :)
It looks like I will be pushing back my NYC visit to June (wanted to visit in May originally). Hopefully it'll be topped out/mostly cladded by then. I understand work on the spire should begin around then. That would be pretty neat to see in person - if I was coming in May, I don't think I would see much action!

I believe this tower will be topped off by April 15,2012
92M+93(93M splice)=2/29/12-3/11/12
93M+100=3/12/12-3/23/12
100M+101+102=3/25/12-4/14/12
103+104=Steel raised on 3/15/12,cocoon rises on the 19th
Of course this is all my prediction by all measures,so don't take this so serious.Hopefully though,it does top out by the 15th of April.

The splice is part of floor 93 now or 5' above it. The next columns that go up there1st mounting point should be 93M and the 2nd mounting point for floor 100

Hopefully more glass will go up soon :/ it's almost like that steel "drought" we had where there was no steel but a ton of glass, now a ton of steel (thankfully) but no glass. I love seeing the glass as it is but I'm ready too see it rise higher. :)

Not trying to get off topic, but 4 wtc looks awesome. I wasn't sure how the seperation was going to look. I believe these two towers are going to be amazing when completed. Two have two awesome towers up, it's going be a sense of pride after 9/11. It's awesome to be an American and have a pair of awesome towers in the greatest city in the world.

Each of the upper floors is 20-25 feet high from floor to ceiling. The 103rd floor is 1,308 feet. So the beginning of the 1,300 foot mark would be on the 102nd floor, and floor 103 doesn't have M floors. From what I can tell all the floors including the M floors give One World Trade Center a floor count of 101 including the floors in the mast.

What floor will 1 wtc will start to box out and stop tapering ?
At topping off. Floor 104 (100) is the last floor in the main building. Floor 105 (101) is in the mast.
^The roof slab is marked as "105", cooling tower catwalks are numbered as "106", the communications platforms take number 107, 108 & 109 and the internal platform at the spire takes the 110th. All of these aren't real floors, the roof never counts as a real one and the other ones lack of slab to be categorized as real floors.
What floor will 1 wtc will start to box out and stop tapering ?
The structural columns stop tapering above the roof slab (1334'8") but the curtain wall face stop tapering once it reaches the 1368' mark with the stainless steel parapet.

December 2012. As mentioned by the Port Authority.
Since people are asking so many questions and the same questions keep popping up forever I decided that I will link to the Q&A by the Port Authority. Whenever you people have questions look it up here and it will be answered. Don't ask questions that are answered here. Only ask questions that have no answers from now on out okay people?

Wow cool, didn't realize they were going to install the antenna so soon! Sounds like they will start on that soon after the topping out occurs. That will be quite a site to see! I guess they will lift the antenna segments up by crane..So the antenna will be installed long before the glass cladding reaches the top, it sounds like.

:haha: Poor choice of words, boat sounds more realistic, it will need to cross the St. Lawrence River to get to New York... heaviest section weights ~54 tons, DCM will need to use both cranes to lift this single section; the mast alone will weight about 400 tons, representing the 0.008% of the total structural steel. ;)

That interesting to know Otie. I remember reading that the steel of the original World Trade Center were brought in by tugboats. So in some way history is repeating itself even for the new World Trade Center.

Even Zen didn't know just how they were going to erect that beast. Once it gets past the point where building cranes can raise the sections I haven't heard if it will be gin poles, building it out of smaller pieces or (how cool would that be?) helicopters. It seems like the cranes there now would have to be removed before they could start the mast.

Do you think Zen's wife might still have those blue prints to the Tower, cause if she does maybe she could look at it and give us some clues about how the Spire will be installed. Just food for thought.

Nope. They were all returned. And the spire construction method wasn't part of them anyhow. They were mainly what was needed for a bid on supplying the steel.

Helicopters would be cool. They did it for the Trump Hotel in Chicago a while back.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a6/20090103_Trump_Tower_Chicago_Spire_helicopter_delivery.jpg/400px-20090103_Trump_Tower_Chicago_Spire_helicopter_delivery.jpg
Of course helicopters sometimes can be inefficient. Years ago when they were building the original World Trade Center they tried it. It failed when the helicopter dropped the materials needed into the Kill Van Kull. So it can be a success or a failure. It would be cool to see a successful mast installation by helicopter for One World Trade Center though. I hope Carlos would get pictures of the whole event if it happens. I won't be in New York when they install the mast.

A V-22 Opery helicopter can do the job as it can transport it and go back pretty quick and efficient.Obviously though, only for the lightweight portion only.As I'm pretty sure no helicopter can carry 50+ tons.

From a post at Wired NY:
http://wirednewyork.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3672&p=389988&viewfull=1#post389988
From the March 2012 PANYNJ WTC Progress Report:
One World Trade Center’s Exterior
Shimmers with New Podium Wall Glass Panels
... Starting this month, the walls of the 186-foot-tall 1 WTC podium are being clad in vertical glass panels to create a dynamic exterior that will animate the ground level experience of the building for pedestrians.
More than 4,000 frosted glass fins, each measuring 13 feet 4 inches by two feet, are being specially created by the contractor Permasteelisa. The glass fins will attach to the exterior of the podium wall at varying angles to create a series of v-shaped wing effects along the building surface. In addition to its aesthetic appeal, the v-shaped glass cladding pattern will provide needed ventilation for the mechanical systems within the podium— including a 1.2-megawatt, next-generation fuel-cell plant housed above the lobby.
One WTC uses a new form of high- performance, low-emittance (low-E) glass coating technology on its glass panels to maximize sunlight and minimize heat gain within the building. This glass coating is also reflective, creating a shimmering effect on the building’s surface. In addition, the podium wall will use concealed energy-efficient LEDs to create a soft exterior glow.
The podium cladding installation is a critical element of 1 WTC’s aesthetic. The tower is scheduled to top off at 104 floors and 1,776 feet above street level (including its spire). Upon completion of its exterior structure this year, 1 WTC will be the tallest skyscraper in the United States ...
• The podium’s new glass panels reflect, refract, and transmit light much like the water cascading in the nearby memorial pools.
• The low-emittance (low-E) coatings on 1 WTC’s glass panels are microscopically thin layers of metal or metallic oxide that block the transfer of heat from sunlight through the window. Though made of metal, these layers are virtually invisible.
