Right now you can see they are wrapping the four levels so far with the blue tarp that will eventually follow the building as it rises, that along with work inside the tower is probably the cause

Good. The installation of fall protection is worth every minute spent on it.

it seems like they completly slowed down on the progresson of tower 1v2

Could it be

yeah may i ask why in the past 2 weeks there wasn't so much of progress on the tower?

that they have decided

i thought it was just me but this towers progress has rlly slowed down

to cancel the tower

I was thinking the same thing

altogether?

Or is it that you folks jump into panic mode far too easily, and far too often?.....:hmmm:

My guess is that within the next couple of weeks, you may all be commenting on how fast the pace is moving. So I'll leave you to ponder that thought.

NYguy, I luv ya...but it doesn't take much observation to see nothing (height-wise) has happened in a couple of weeks. And, outside those corner pieces put up quite a while back, it doesn't seem much else has happened in that way.

No, the tower isn't cancelled and no the earth hasn't stopped moving, etc. Just obvious observations. Nothing much new regarding height. It's that simple. I'm sure there are plenty of good reasons why, but it'd be dumb (imo) to attack everyone who notices no new height. They aren't stupid. Most people can look at two weeks worth of photos and tell it is stalled on the sides.

I'm sure it will get better once steel gets on site on time and people know what the hell to do with it when it gets on site. Until then, quit pretending we are doing a floor a week. We've seen the same pics for many, many days. That isn't criticism of anyone...it's just the cold hard facts. Long live 1WTC!

And if there are delays, a newspaper would report that. I'm sure..

They're kicking into a whole different gear now that the office floors are going up and the Manitowocs are out of the picture. Give em a chance to get everything in place for the 65 floor sprint. And like people have said before, they might have to finish welding and other stuff on the base before the main part of the building goes up.

They were really quick to put up the four corner sections of the top two floors, which makes it seem slower than it really is. Still, it's not exactly skyrocketing up.

DCM was in a big hurry to get big and bigger red moved over to the Transit Hub. Those things ain't cheap (about $40,000 a day for both)

The Tower is in another "duck phase" not much can be seen but they are paddling like hell underneath !

Obvious is it? After years of watching these towers rise, you would think people would be used to the ebb and flow of these towers rising, some weeks seeing more action than others. There is no need for the usual flood of panic. Construction has not stopped. Visit the site for yourself and check it out. Anyone can visit if in doubt.

LOL, there was no panic it was just very obvious the tower has slow down. Confused as to why you think there was panic. Not the biggest deal nor is it the biggest deal the tower has slow down (or is it something else? I thought that was tacit enough for all the experienced sp users such as yourself). It was just observations. Were you in a panic at the sight of four similar comments that could be answered by someone like you? :koko:

"that they have decided" LOL obviously, but that's not the answer i was hoping for.
Anyways i think the reason they slowed down on the floors is because they working on the inside.
As you can see in the pictures i posted earlier the core is not even up to first office floor yet so im guessing they trying to catch up and stay even IMO.

An "observation" that we get from members such as yourself far too frequently. An "observation" I might add, that we don't need. A simple solution - if you don't think construction is moving fast enough, just check the thread about once a month or so. Otherwise, just sit back and watch the construction - the pace of which we have no control over. We don't need fifty people repeating the same thing, especially if it's as "obvious" as some of you suggest. This won't be an issue in the future.

WTC Towers Rise as PA and Silverstein Negotiate

April 15, 2010

One World Trade Center (WTC) is now rising above the 24th level, with concrete being poured daily to set each expansive floorplate. Across the site, 4 WTC steel columns are up to floor six, while the 80-foot-tall entrance lobby has taken shape along Church Street. These are the two skyscrapers, along with the eight-acre Memorial quadrant, that showcase the tremendous progress that’s been made at the WTC over the past year.

The two organizations building these mega structures sat side by side on April 12th to present updates to Community Board 1. Christopher Ward, executive director of the Port Authority, spoke first, stating that 1 WTC construction is gaining momentum.

“We are at the standard floor, punching out one standard floor after another, which will give us progress in the coming year…and we hope to pick up the pace and build faster,” said Ward. “That is what New Yorkers will talk most about.”

The base is 186' 8" high or 56.69m. The current top of steel is about 4 feet above the 24th floor at 244 feet or 74.37m. Only 1,124 feet to the top of the tower (342.59m)

This is the wrong place to post this thread, but I doubt there is a right place.

Will there be a Six World Trade Center? I count 1-5 and then 7.

Wikipedia tells me that 99 Church Street might be named 6WTC, but Wikipedia says a lot of things.

Currently there is no such plans for a six world trade center. 7 WTC is numbered as it is because the building it replaced was 7 WTC. As for 6 WTC the closest possible thing is the performing arts center, which may eventually receive the designation.

On the Earthcam, what is the yellow paint covering on the second footprint of the old WTC? (The Memorial). Is it waterproofing for when they add the water?

It sure is coming along. I have another question about the site:

That middle road that is held up with all that old steel (old road?). Is that going to be dismantled and that other looking road that is being built, will it replace that road? (The one the crane is moving further and further on).

Just wondering.. It looks like that 'road' is cutting into the second footprint of the memorial at the corner..

Thanks!

Paint is waterproofing. Or glue for the waterproofing.

THat road being held up by all the old steel is actually a subway line box(1 Train) It will eventually be transformed into Cortlandt Street station, with Greenwich Street running right above it. The new road perpendicular to it is Fulton street, and that will extend through a four-way intersection at Greenwich and reunite the Lower Manhattan grid.

I have been following the construction of this tower the past few years on this forum, but have never posted. It is starting to get really exciting. I was inspired to start posting myself by all the great shots of progress lately. I visited the site on 4-17 and have been taking photos from the same spot on the north bridge every year or so, thought I'd share my photos at this spot over the past 4 years:

One more pic from my visit 4-17. It was hard to get a sense of how huge this tower is already in a photo, but this one I took from the corner of Church and Vessey does ok.

Wow, but what is that blue net at the tower?

It is a protective cocoon to guard against workers falling. I believe it will be installed around all the office floors until the cladding goes up.

^ The streets around the World Trade Center have them, and its been pointed out many times before. Let's try and keep the topic on construction of this tower.

Those stairs on the facade for the workers are intersting.

One question: How tall are those two cranes?

I apologize when someone pointed out that previously.

I love how from this angle you can see that this tower is indeed much wider than the world financial center tower behind it. From other angles this isn't always apparent. I can't wait to see this when it is finished, since it is already playing visual tricks.

The WFC tower is further back behind 1WTC in that shot, that's why it looks thinner.

What I am intersted is the following: How high is that? I mean, from which height is that image taken. I think the roof of the tower will reach that height??

That is most certainly taken from a helicopter. It is anybody's guess as to how high they were when the photo was taken.

Kid you not, they're the best pictures anyone posts. You must have a thing for taking pictures. ;)

You have no one to take pictures with? I'm sorry. I would be more than happy to join you...sadly I don't live in the state of New York. But you should keep up the good work, it's people like you that make this place worthwhile.

wow there going up again. once the next level that there are starting up now is complete the tower will then be 2/3 the height of the verizon building. which means about 20 percent or 1/5 the height of the building when completed not counting the antenna.

Great to see the tower coming up. I can't wait until it's going to be a part of that lovely skyline. In a few months, when 1 WTC will surpass Verizon, you will be able to see that giant tower from the Empire State Building's observation decks.

That rendering is from 2006 and does not show the current design. That is what I call the UFO design (looks like a UFO landed on the roof)

The current design has 3 open ring platforms with no outside covering.

This one is up to date. (or as up to date as it can be)

I heard somewhere that by December this year 1WTC will be at about 60 floors, is that correct? and when is it projected to top out?

I told my sister who lives in Manhattan that I'm not coming back to the Big Apple till that sucker is done... I got sick of seeing the big hole with no progress every time I visited her, though the new Giants & Yankee Stadiums are tempting me back early!
