They probably didn't remove the covering for the stop domestic violence day.

It's also breast cancer awareness month.

Not to demean these causes, but it seems a huge waste of energy to keep all these lights burning 24/7 when I imagine all the heavy construction (i.e. slab work, HVAC, electrical, etc) on the lower floors have been done already.

After all, we're constantly being urged to conserve energy.

It will change colors.

Apparently the building's neighbor, the Durst-owned home to Conde Nast, 4 Times Square has also started a similar light show and eventually, Durst tells the Post, the tower's top will play off of a proposed spire at 1 World Trade Center, when ever that building reaches its height of 1,776 feet.

It would be white. No color changes would take place with the spire. Inside the spire it might be lit though

Wikipedia and other sources give a floor count between 104-108 so it's not certain right now.

What Floor is tower 4 on? When does it begin to setback?

We really don't know when the setback would begin. All I know is 4 WTC is anywhere between 48-52 floors.

It is certain, it just depends how you count them. 104/105 is the number of floors to the roof, and 108 includes the levels of the communication rings.

Yes, the physical structure will be white, but it will be lit with various colors.

Since I've posted there have been some AMAZING updates on this thread! I know ZenSteelDude is probably pretty proud by what's going on. Last time I was at the WTC which was September 22, things were looking great!

I think those pictures of the marble for the lobby, the elevator installation and the 64th floor skylobby are phenominal! Even though the lobby has the blast wall, I think it's going to be just as incredable as the original! The facade and the corner nodes are striking...

Just to confirm, the highest office floor with be the 90th floor with a floor-to-floor height of 14'4"?

Just found these forums and first time posting here. Already see a familiar face here (Gary Duanier) who I followed the construction of Citi Field with from 2006-2009. Lots of great stuff here and happy to find a new forum to occupy part of my day...

Was at the Memorial on 9/12/11 for the public opening and won't bore everyone with all my pictures; pretty sure you've all seen similar shots by now.

I will, however, share one image I captured that evening that I loved...The silhouette of 1 WTC reflected on the Pavilion facade and rising around the tridents.

Web Cams Will Stream Live Views From the Top of the Statue of Liberty (http://mashable.com/2011/10/24/statue-of-liberty-web-cams/)

The Statue of Liberty will turn on four live streaming web cams Friday in celebration of her 125th birthday anniversary.

Four Torch Cams inside the flame will stream live views of Ellis Island, Governors Island, Liberty Island and the Freedom Tower, via World Webcams and will be available to the public at MyWorldWebcams.com.

The 151-foot-tall Statue of Liberty, officially titled Liberty Enlightening the World, was a gift from France to the United States on Oct. 28, 1886, to mark the centennial of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The national monument is a symbol of freedom, democracy and the friendship formed between France and the U.S. during the American Revolution.

The live streams will bring a new experience of Liberty Island to the millions of visitors who travel to the national monument each year. For people who want to experience a view of the statue — rather than from the statue looking out — other live streams already provide that, including this one in Brooklyn.

That's what I'm talking about! This tower will just dwarf everything in the area, there's absolutely no competition whatsoever.

Btw I noticed those new navigation buttons, they look really nice.

At least until the other towers are done. Then you will barely be able to see the tower itself (from some angles).

this has been brought up before and i do get it but from some angles you weren't able to see the north tower of the old WTC when the south tower was blocking its view and vice versa, what's the difference?.......the thing is, what's the alternative? build only the two under construction now? when the whole thing is completed ,if you want to see a certain angle then make plans to view it from the place that offers that angle ;)

I'm not complaining. I think the site is going to be amazing. Just pointing out that Tower 1 won't be "dominating" for very long.

I know, I read all about it and was sad to see that. I just know that looking upon everything he would be impressed by what is transpiring...

Personally, I want a dominating WTC-1; even if it means not building towers 2 and 3. The "cluster" concept isn't working for me. It detracts too much from the structural height of WTC-1. Maybe it will look better than I think when they are all done. My biggest beef is still the roof height of Tower 1. If the design had been scaled up to 2001 ft (symbolism), for instance, the roof/parapet would be 1542 ft and the obs deck at a much more respectable 1440 ft. (I would increase The width of the building only by a little, say, to ~215 ft)

Heck, that's partly why the ESB is so great. It dominates (for now).

In the case of WTC-1, domination could have made up for the lack of height.

Here is my take on some recent postings..First off, let me say that I do think 1WTC and the whole complex will be an inspiring sight when it's finished. I think it will be interesting and also the height of tower 1 will reclaim the skyline that the terrorists took away. That said, SORRY but I have to say that I am NOT a fan of 2WTC or 3WTC. They just look rather drab to me, like they could be any corporate office buildings from any big city. They just are sort of BLAH to me. I think they should let 1WTC stand alone, and let it's height stand out. If they chose not to build a twin of 1WTC, they shouldn't crowd the site. Instead, they should reduce the height of 2WTC and 3WTC, thereby letting 1WTC standout all the more. It's simple visual facts, the less you crowd a single building with "nearly tall buildings", the more the tallest will standout! I really like the design of 1WTC and am excited for it's completion. I just hope they decide to let it stand alone and not crowd it too closely. Or, build it taller so the scale would be better. That's my take!

The Twin Towers looked fine, and they were both large skyscrapers about the same height of one another. What would make the new WTC any different?

Aesthetics aside, DT/Financial District is too important to the City of New York to play with when it comes to taxes and income for the city. It's a fine line, of course, but the city needs all the companies and workers it can get to simply come out even tax-wise to maintain its infrastructure. And that infrastructure is massive in the Financial district- two underwater vehicle tunnels (Holland, Bklyn Battery), three underwater mass transit tunnels (PATH, MTA 4,5,R and 2,3,A,C) and all the new projects underway untangling 11 subway lines to meet with commuter rail.

To view it simply as what looks best denies the realities on the ground where a very complex system of public transport exists. The city wants to capitalize on this system to enrich us all rather than let it crumble. That means workers and vibrancy, not a dead zone for the sake of post cards.

Ooops, you either missed the little question mark or accidently reversed the words :D

The core changes several times, something like ~25, most of those modifications occur inside the podium.
It will keep changing, getting smaller the higher this tower goes, MEP* shafts and MER** areas will replace the space were H bank used to be and some of the existing ones will get relocated.

Notice that this graphic only displays the structural frame of the core, additional HVAC, MEP shafts & exhaust plenums aren't shown.

Is it correct that we're at 1070' ?

So basically only 300 ft to go... about 50-100 feet higher than the cranes at full extension?

30 Park Place looks like it can still hang with OWTC at the moment without being overwhelmed.

Hey Carlos I have a suggestion for you: When the construction is complete, go back and compile all your photos and make a time lapse video---I'm sure the result will be very cool!:tup:

Enjoy these pictures since an early Nor'easter is headed for NYC with 5 inches of snow for tomorrow. They can't work in the snow and wind, and pictures can't be taken from a snowstorm.
