Hopefully, and I'm just speculating here, the company keeping the antenna may force the PA to pay for the entire spire to be built since they believe they should be owed every dollar that was used to build the radome, antenna, and other components that make up the top of 1 WTC. In essence, the company BUILT every part of the spire as exchange of being fully paid by Durst and the PA. If you made something and and the last minute the person you were going to sell it to decides they don't want the whole anymore, wouldn't you be angry?

This is so funny i came up with the same exact conclusion over at sky scraper city, to me its the only logical conclusion,unless someone else could come with an alternative theory.

The radome might be fabricated by a different supplier,
I have not read into the company making the spire parts to see if they are a steel fabricator only or if they also make entire antennas and other equipment.

Even if it is made the PA would probley let the radome parts sit for 20 years in a warehouse somewhere,

I have wondered why they did not design the radome covering with smaller panels that install from the inside of the structure?:shrug:
I guess its easy to say when your looking at small photos, the photo I have seen of the very tip of the spire loaded on the tractor trailer gives a sense of scale as to how big
the spire is and how big the radome panels might have to be.....there might be some truth to the idea that the panels could not be replaced.

I really miss Zen Steel Dude's insight & behind the scenes acess to the wtc plans.:(
We might have had an answer that makes sense as to why it cant be done instead of speculating its because of cost only.

I wonder if in ancient times they fought about the "logistics" of how to build other famous structures...

"The Nile River Authority has scrapped its plans for the giant spynx head be placed on top of the Great Pyrimid.
The over budget & behind schedule Pyrimid was originally planned to have a giant likness of the spynx on the very top,
but is now being replaced by a less dramatic "pointed" top due to safety concerns.
The Spynx head which has already been built will be placed on an existing stone structure within sight of the pyrimid.
Speculatuion & rumors sugest that the existing structure is actually a giant lion statue hidden under the surface.
The Nile River Authority engineers assure the people of egypt that the lion statue rumor is not true and the spinx head will have
a proper home for future generations to see. The TNRA also states the move of the spynx is not due to budget concerns.

Yes you are correct, but I was referring to the construction on the left side of the photo. It looks like it is 1-2 stories tall at the moment.

On the "Memorial Pools" KPI camera it is clear that they have started instillation of the steel beam above the doors in the south entrance that will be the lower anker point for the vertical cables. The first horizontal arm for the glass overhang farthest to the right is also installed along with the horizontal mullion that will be at the top of the doors plus one vertical mullion that will act as a door jam. Two cables are clearly visible and attached to the beam. It looks like base cladding has initiated.

When the base is completed the building will look just grand. The building should be called one world grand center :haha::D:haha: Does anyone know if the window washer machine on 1wtc will be automatic without people or manual with people? In NYGuys photos, it's hard to fathom how the 10 or so extra feet that is jutting out from the top of the base, (or half way to the top) looks like it is supported by nothing.. How is that?? Or is that a catwalk, or something? or am I seeing this wrong?

Yeah, it's a catwalk. This is the one at the top of the base (20th floor), but same idea.

Legal case over WTC spire steel is settled

NEW YORK — The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and a Canadian company have settled a lawsuit over steel for an antenna that will sit atop One World Trade Center.

A joint announcement was made Tuesday by the Port Authority, ADF Steel Corp. and WTC 1 LLC.

The Manhattan lawsuit had said the company refused to ship remaining steel for the spire while demanding about $6 million in payments for another project.

One World Trade Center is being built to replace the twin towers destroyed on 9/11.

The antenna will be 408 feet tall when completed.

Ahhhhh, I love that the employees get matching 1 WTC hard hats and safety vests! :tup: They will be really cool to keep after construction is finished. :D

BTW - they're almost done cladding that last floor before the double floor - so - I think Carlos should be seeing the beginning stages of the vented windows tomorrow! :D

Good, now this tower can get finished and occupied. Downtown nyc needs to have companies renting and employees sprawling and doing trade, like it was pre 9/11. Very good news.:banana::notacrook::banana::cheers:

I think they are trying to break records with the slowest building process ever. Seriously, this tower has been the slowest thing ever. They built the Empire State Building in a year, this has take about 10 years and we have modern technology.

The Empire State building also wasn't attacked twice and destroyed. This will be the safest building to work in, and btw it has not been 10 years construction started in 2006, and if you want to get more technical above grade steel erection didn't start until late summer 2009...relax, only a little ways to go enjoy it now because once its done thats that.

The Freedom Tower is going to get its top hat on time.

The Port Authority announced Tuesday that the Canadian steel company supplying the last bit of steel for the antenna on top of the tower has agreed to start shipping the material.

The deal means the lawsuit will be dropped and the steel for the tower antenna can set sail before Canadian shipping channels freeze over in winter.

The antenna is the last bit of exterior steel for the Freedom Tower and it is expected to be erected early in 2013. Interior work will continue for at least another 18 months.

The online discount stock brokerage E*Trade is considering a lease at One World Trade Center, sources told The Real Deal.
The financial services company is taking “a hard look,” at space inside the landmark tower, one source said.
“They kicked the tires,” confirmed Lou Buffalino, a senior vice president at DTZ, the brokerage formerly known as UGL Services.
The company took the name DTZ in October, about a year after UGL Services paid $119 million for the trading operations of the London-based global property company DTZ.
Buffalino is not representing E*Trade, and an E*Trade spokesperson denied that the company has looked at a 1 World Trade Center space.
E*Trade currently occupies 39,000 square feet at the Time-Life Building, which serves as the company’s headquarters, according to information from real estate research firm CoStar.
Tara Stacom of Cushman & Wakefield, who handles leasing for the building, would not confirm the company’s interest, but did say that the building has begun preparations to divide up at least one floor at 1 World Trade. An architect has been brought in, and additional floors will be subdivided based on the market, she said.
“We expect, in 2013, to do some [deals for] smaller spaces,” she told The Real Deal.

If you mean why aren't they moving fast enough for you, I have no idea. I see what was designed as a complicated structure built over a complicated site and environment
nearing the completion stages. That is enough for me, and it should be enough for you, unless you need to occupy the space within, and soon.
