You are not the wrong, I noticed the same thing. The glass was stalled around the height of 7 WTC for a good week or 2 and then all of a sudden things picked up...seems like they are adding a floor or so every 2-3 days. Of course this will slow down as they are catching up faster than the steel rises.

That is because the base would be covered with glass even though they aren't windows. The base would be a box that is 200x200 same width and length as the former Twin Towers, and the base would have horizontal and vertical lines like the former Twin Towers. Here is a comparison.

I don't get why they didn't just clad it with reflective glass, maybe tinted darker than the glass used for the rest of the tower.

No - if I remember correctly, cladding the base will be in early 2013, so it'll be one of the last things done before the building opens. Shame, but only a year away.

A. Concrete work at the base of the tower is proceeding, but it must be carefully staged so that it does not interfere with other trades and delivery logistics at the base. Portions of the concrete wall will be done later so that various trades can drive trucks into the lobbies for materials deliveries. For example, all of the elevator rails are being delivered to the North Lobby. Fireproofing materials are delivered to the South Lobby.

Q. Since the tower is coming closer to being topped out, will there be a topping out ceremony toward the end of the year? – Dominic, Grants, NM

A. We anticipate the tower will be topping out in early 2012. Our focus right now is getting the tower built. When the time comes, we will focus on whatever announcements or ceremony is appropriate.

Q. When will the glass façade for the base of 1 WTC be in place? – Tyler, New York, N.Y.

A. Installation of the podium wall glass will begin in early 2012. This work must be staged later to allow the tower's hoists to remain in place, so the podium glass won't be completed until the 2nd quarter of 2013.


Q. I was just wondering when the curtain wall will start on the mechanical floors under the 20th floor? – Spencer, Montreal, N.Y.

A. Just to be clear, the curtain wall and the podium wall glass are not the same. The curtain wall glass is currently being installed from the 20th floor to the top of the building, while the podium wall glass for the bottom 20 floors is in fabrication, with installation to begin in early 2012.


Q. When will the spire go on 1 WTC and how long will it take for the spire to be installed? – Logan, New York, N.Y.

A. Installation of the tower's spire will begin in mid 2012, and will take approximately six months to complete.

The ESB 102nd floor is at 1,224' the 1,250' point is where the antenna mast mounts on. The inside observation decks for 1 WTC will be between 1,227' and 1,266' depending on what floor you are on.

In this picture, if you click the link to Flickr, & the click original to the full size, look about the tip of 40 Wall Street and if you look VERY VERY closely you can make out the Bridgeport Center Building in Connecticut, (no it's not smoke) it's been known to be seen from the ESB and GE. Off topic a bit, but I know where those worker's salary went. Even if it's just dust and debris it still can have an impact on the employees that are working on the World Trade Center buildings right now.


WTC Trucking Company Owners Allegedly Stole $1M from Workers

DOWNTOWN — Two trucking company owners who helped with World Trade Center clean up were arrested Thursday and charged with stiffing workers out of wages and stealing $1 million from their benefits fund, authorities said.

Brothers Gerardo and Vincent Fusella, who own Fusella Group L.L.C. and Alpine Investment Group, Inc., allegedly embezzled money from Teamsters Local 282 while carting construction and demolition debris between sites and landfills in Long Island, New York City, New Jersey and other locations, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

“It is imperative that employers provide the wages and benefits to which their employees are legally entitled,” said U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch in a statement.

“As alleged, these defendants not only failed to pay their workers full pay and benefits, they failed to make the legally required security benefit contributions designed to provide security in retirement, and they also embezzled more than $1,000,000 from the Local’s benefit fund account.”

Between 2007 and 2009 the brothers allegedly worked with a Local 282 shop steward to hide their drivers' work hours in order to avoid paying required hourly wages and benefit fund contributions.

In 2007 they were contracted to remove dirt and debris from the World Trade Center construction site, allegedly failing to pay wages and benefits specified under the union contract.

Beginning in 2008 the brothers also embezzled funds from the union's benefit funds, taking more than $1 million by 2009, according to the indictment, unsealed in Brooklyn Federal Court.

And during that same period, the truck company owners allegedly avoided paying more than $150,000 in Social Security, federal and state tax contributions by falsely claiming their employees were private contractors and by not reporting salaries paid to their office workers and mechanics.

Both men face a maximum sentence ranging from 5 to 20 years on each of the 31 counts if they are convicted.

The ESB 102nd floor is at 1,224' the 1,250' point is where the antenna mast mounts on. The inside observation decks for 1 WTC will be between 1,227' and 1,266' depending on what floor you are on.

How do you know the ESB's is 1,224 feet? and where did 1,266 feet come from? I believe you, I'm just curious

1) It seems like they are working on 4 WTC since the cranes moved today. You can tell from the pictures Carlos gave us, but nothing happened to 1 WTC so I am going to presume they are off till after New Year.

2) The next jumps would all be mechanical floors.

Too windy for the cranes on top of Tower 1...some of the ironworkers have been temporarily moved to Tower 4 and the Transportation Hub...not sure when progress will continue on top.
