I'm going to take a stab at why the curtain wall has not progressed in over a month.

I think they are letting the core rise higher first to add stability to the building. I have heard that there is/was a lot of movement of the tower because of the wind load. The higher the curtain wall goes the more force is put on the building. Allowing the core to rise first as well as leaving the upper floors open would help alleviate the issue.

Again, the is just a hypothesis but makes sense (to me anyway ).

Maybe Allan could elaborate?

Definitely the communication ring...the roof is 21 feet below the spire of the Trump Tower which is 1,389 feet. Technically it's surpassed already by roof height, 1,070 feet.

Topping off will be on April 2012. The installing of the telecommunications and the mast will start in May and June 2012, and be completed by December 2012.

Needs a lot of work, prolly going to take me a while. As it stands right now the image is 10" tall by 60" wide. Flikr will only let me post it small, anyone know how I get the full effect, or at least a much larger version to post on here?

Are you stitching together this panorama manually? Are you using a recent version of photoshop?

If so, I recommend you use the "photomerge" function. Its under the file menu>automate>photomerge. It will stitch together the images automatically and usually blend the coloring pretty well. Highly recommend it.

I had tried that first, with the way it auto stitches and aligns the images it makes the panorama into a crazy u shape, and if I try to bend it the building get distorted like crazy. So manual stitch it is. Like I said thats a rough draft,I just wanted to give a preview of what I jave in the works.

Yea ik for a long time I heard the "rumor" but I was cresting the top back in May on a clear night, and was surprise to see the skyline twinkling so far away

Rizzo
Feb 23, 2012, 6:05 AM
In theory they could be seen, but in reality it's nearly impossible. Atmospheric conditions would almost entirely obliterate visibility...even on a clear day. At night, surrounding light pollution would dilute any clarity in the shape or light intensity of the towers.

Temperature inversion may create a clearer view of the towers (acting like a big lens) but it's rare. Google earth ignores these conditions And what you are seeing is basically pixel extrapolation when it renders the image...not because that's what the towers would look like from that view, but because Google is trying to place pixels on the image where it understands that something is on the horizon, but can't display it with much accuracy. In higher resolution, those white lines would practically disappear.

I don't want this to turn into a debate or anything. I believe you'd see something, but it would be very difficult with the naked eye and definitely not as clear as the google image suggests.

It's above ground. It would get signal. The only place where you won't get any is in the subway tunnels.

That's not really a technical issue, but a policy decision. Despite what some idiot who doesn't know rf from a hole in the ground says, a cell signal isn't going to penatrate the core. But it's very low cost and simple to add pico, or femto repeaters for a few hundred bucks to cover spaces like elevator shafts if they want to.

:previous: Wow... that's bad.

The cranes were spotted lifting steel this morning (over on SC). Maybe we'll see something happen...

Carlos, I hope you don't mind me asking, but I bet I'm not the only one who's dying to see one of your super cool manipulated "what's to come" shots. Please?

ps - admiring your sacrificial efforts to keep NY wet and save watah ;)

Is that new perimeter steel, or is that from the last jump?

Also holy ballsack someone needs to wash/repaint/whatever One Liberty Plaza. I'll freely admit that I love boxes, and that's just awful.
