Looks like it well be another week or 2. Maybe longer if they have to get the core steel for the 21st-22nd floors in place first. if they put em in before more core steel goes up they well stick up about 30 feet above existing steel. And that's just the lower 2/3rds !
what do you mean when you said in the last part of the sentence 2/3 rds?

Each of the Mech levels is actually 2 floors high, and there are partial "mezzanine" floors in between. So the floor count actually looks something like this....

If you do a rough approximation 200 feet, divided by about 14 feet for regular office floors, you get ~14 "equivalent" floors. It doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things since pretty much every building in existence skips floors in one way or another but most people either don't notice or don't care. The PA didn't use this "rough approximation" and it isn't official in any way.
As an example, here is the tenant list for 2 WTC. 1 WTC has a few anomalies that are probably due to incorrect reporting so I didn't post that, but as far as I know floors 1-6 were the lobby, with 7 and 8 being mechanical. At this point people fretting over the floor numbering now should break down and enter the fetal position because the original WTC didn't actually have 110 floors as advertised, either.

Soak it in folks. We are now moving on to the actual office floors, but also as important to watch, within the next couple of months, we'll actually start to see the distinctive tapering, and once we do it's up and up from here on out until we reach the top of the spire.

The tapering won't be that distinctive until it reaches at least the height of the neighboring Barclay-Vesey Building. I mean the tower is about 200 feet now yet its inverse tapering, which goes at the same angle as the rest of the taper, is barely noticeable to the untrained eye (i.e. non building/construction enthusiasts).

Two quick questions.
How much less steel is going to be usued in one office floor then one base floor, for example like 50 percent less or something of that nature?
Also How are they going to connect the floor joists or floor colmns to the exterior , is it the same way they did it with the base floors?

Don't forget that the higher they go the longer it takes the cranes & elevators to raise stuff.
The construction elevators going in on the east side are rated 750 feet per minute with 6 tons or two minutes from street to roof. (Not counting acceleration and deceleration time)
The cranes are a bit slower, 150 fpm with 35 tons.
Many years ago the Foreman of the company I worked for worked for the company that put the antenna on the North Tower. It took 48 minutes to hoist 40 tons to the roof. They could load the crane, take the personnel elevator to the roof and have time for coffee before they unloaded the crane.

maybe 2% less if that and it's all the same. Just because it is an office floor does not mean it is not an integral part of the Tower's structure.
PS: there are no joists in the tower.

It should be noticeable, even to the untrained eye. It's the steel we are watching, and particularly after the fourth office floor is built
we will begin to see that form. (Just as we've noticed the opposite in the base)

Anyway, surprised to see Hines in the mix here...
http://www.observer.com/2010/politics/related-durst-vornado-brookfield-hines-and-boston-vie-1-wtc
According to multiple people familiar with the situation, the six landlords' firms—respectively: Related Cos., Vornado Realty Trust, Boston Properties, the Durst Organization, Brookfield Properties and Hines Interests—have all responded to the Port Authority's queries for a partner on the tower.
The Port Authority, the bi-state agency that has been (gradually) developing the giant office building for years, last month reached out to a small group of developers, asking if they would have interest in taking a financial stake in the tower, with a payment of at least $100 million. After giving site tours to interested developers, the six aforementioned ones pitched preliminary proposals for the tower to formally throw their hats in the race.
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/business/realestate/commercial/big_bid_on_part_of_wtc_WiaIN5UmFA1jVML3dJplfJ
Port Authority Execu tive Director Chris Ward wasn't exaggerating when he said recently the PA would act swiftly to find a development partner for 1 World Trade Center.
Although a deal might be months off, six major real estate companies put in offers to the PA last Friday -- among them, we've confirmed Related Cos., the Durst Organization, Brookfield Properties and Vornado. Sources said that Boston Properties and Hines also submitted bids.
A source close to the talks said the PA plans to meet with each of the bidders next week to clarify aspects of their proposals.
The PA is seeking a development partner to effectively take on all aspects of completing 1 WTC, leasing it up and managing it -- "everything to bring the whole project home," as one source put it.
The PA is not in the business of marketing office space. Our source said, "Having the tower in the name of a well-known private developer will lend it instant credibility and erase any stigma over public or quasi-public owernship."

Something to cheer everyone up despite the weather.
One at each corner, total of 90 feet high, solid steel. Probably going in next week. And in my opinion, a work of art. I present "The corner nodes".

They look awesome... It would be perfect for them to go in next week, got that week off. Those corner nodes are what I have been wanting to get pictures and videos of ever since I heard about them. I guess we will have to see what day's they will go in.
Is the 16000 tall enough to set them in?

If you remember the 16000 was re-fitted with a longer jib a month or so ago. I believe it was just so it could set the corner nodes.

yeah, the snow is rapidly coming down here(nj). its expected to go on intill 2am tomorrow morning. So i would expect this storm to put this back a couple of days.
i mean look at the the live cam, you cant even see it because of how bad its coming down.

Hello all! Haven't posted in a long time but I have been following the construction of One World Trade Center and I'm very excited to see it gain momentum as it rises.
Just a quick question. Does anyone know when it will be topped out? And what is the anticipated completion date now? Still 2012?
I am a native Upstate New Yorker but live in AZ now. Can't wait to come back and visit the city this summer and see the progress! Thanks everyone.

1. Scroll to top of page
2. See that it clearly states "Completion Date: 2013" in description.
Or go to wtc.com
Or go to PA site.
Or google it.
Or read the thread.
