[sorry to get off topic for a second and I wont let it happen again, but wouldn't you love it if Bin Laden could just see this somehow right now? IF somehow we could bring him back to life for a few minutes, just to let him see everything, once the new wtc is built.

^^ nice morning shot. :)

i still can't believe those union workers are taking the WTC hostage for their own purpose. sure thing that their image will suffer from now on...

Sure, they should be happy to keep working without contracts.

About 200 laborers stood down from their jobs for a second day Tuesday at the World Trade Center site, although the owner
said the work stoppage had a minimal impact on the site's transit hub and signature skyscraper, and no impact on the memorial.

dayum straight this thing is making its mark on the skyline ^^^
the more i look at it, this thing is really bringing back memories... on how the twins dominated the skyline and how massive they were. now, the skyline is coming back!... looking more futuristic/render-esque than ever!

The World Trade Center.... RISES!

Damn I'm super excited! Just booked 4 nights at the W New York Downtown, which is directly next to the World Trade Center!

It's not until late May 2012...anyone know if the tower will be topped off by then? I'm excited that the memorial will be open by then too.

I think it's pretty safe to assume the tower will be topped off by that time, and the cladding should be pretty close to topping out around that time as well

I think the cladding is around 26 or 27 floors behind the highest completed floor. So I'm guessing the cladding tops out around 6 months after the building does. Math isn't exactly my forte though. :typing:

Workers Back on the Job at World Trade Center Site (http://blogs.wsj.com/metropolis/2011/08/04/concrete-workers-return-to-world-trade-center-site/?mod=google_news_blog)

By Joseph De Avila

Concrete laborers who had refused to work at the World Trade Center for three days returned to their jobs Thursday morning after their union reached an agreement with contractors late Wednesday, according to people familiar with the matter.

The Cement League, a contractors’ association that represents management, and the Cement and Concrete Workers District Council, representing concrete workers, agreed late Wednesday night to extend a contract until Aug. 16. Talks will be ongoing until then.

Hundreds of cement workers began a work stoppage Monday after their contract ended. The job action affected work at One and Two World Trade Center, its downtown transit hub, the new Barclays Center, Madison Square Garden, Weill Cornell Medical Center and a residential development on 57th Street.

A labor arbitrator ordered some of those workers back to their jobs on Tuesday and Wednesday because their project labor agreements had no-strike provisions. But workers at One World Trade Center and its 800,000-square-foot transit hub had no such agreement and threatened to remain off the job until they reached a new contract.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey confirmed Thursday that the workers had returned to their jobs.

The main dispute is over contractors’ insistence that concrete workers accept 20% less in wages and benefits for residential and hotel construction relative to commercial construction. The union hasn’t budged on that demand so far.

Patrick Keane, a concrete laborer from New Windsor, N.Y., said he is afraid that $200, or 20 percent, is going to be plucked from his weekly wages. Keane, originally from Ireland, said he is hoping the negotiations result in enough money to match his living expenses.

“Allow us to live and allow us to live decently,” he said. “It’s another basic right — we’re not looking to break anybody.”

:previous: I saw that video a few months ago and sent a private message to him over YouTube. He's an internet conspiracy theorist who has a lot of videos indicating that he believes in "the shadow government" seizing total power over the people through police force and economically, so he's not exactly unbiased to begin with when it comes to his interpretation of his encounter at Ground Zero.

You are technically not allowed to shoot photography of the WTC for security reasons, although this is NEVER enforced. If you look on this very thread, you will see literally hundreds and hundreds of pictures taken from outside the gates and I've even taken pictures from inside the site and never had anyone come after me or say anything to me. The guy in the video was probably greatly exaggerating his experience, as he does in the rest of his videos. Probably some police officer asked him why he was taking pictures of the building, and he's trying to make it out like the police are nazis and this is further evidence that the government is trying to destroy all of our rights. The internet is filled with conspiracy theory crap like this. Don't pay the guy any mind.

that's just wrong. :-/

Originally, and still now the base will be a concrete structure that reaches 20 floors so car bombers can't damage the building badly. The plan is to cover the concrete with glass to hide the concrete and to make the building look better.

That sounds like a good logical explanation. It should look good covered with glass. It was my understanding, that the attempt was to clad it with some sort of prismatic glass and it just wasn't going to work.

Well they could use any glass. As long as it doesn't show the concrete, and hides it well.

It should be the new standard, especially in a place like the capital of the world- New York, New York. "Terrorism" is here to stay. Maybe not organized and of the extremist Muslim stripe, but it will always be a reality.

Yeah...flip a coin with the word "impracticality" on the one side and "cost" on the flip side and it's still 50/50.

Could they maybe take the air vents that are IIRC supposed to be for the upper floors and do the same treatment here as with 150G, i.e. put the vents at the base? That might work.

Originally, and still now the base will be a concrete structure that reaches 20 floors so car bombers can't damage the building badly. The plan is to cover the concrete with glass to hide the concrete and to make the building look better...

The concrete only extends to approximately the 6th floor. The remaining 13 floors of the base are mechanical and recessed from the facade by several feet.

The entire base is actually only equal to 14 office-size floors of 13'4" (as the rest of the office floors are measured). The number 20 is arbitrarily used because the base takes up approximately 19 apartment-sized floors on any residential building. From the ground, the first office floor would appear, to the average person, to be about 20 floors up (from their frame of reference of residential floors) Also 20 was used to boost the floor count and make the overall height of the building closely match the number of floors of the old twins.
