maybe he's in a 110 story building, with some 220 volts running through him. The fire around him is in the shape of a pentagon! Just saying. I wonder if those 71 virgins were a little to hot for his taste.

The only thing that would've been better is for him to have seen all 4 new towers built and opened. Than kill him. That way he got to see that one last thing before he went.

This is the only thing that has been on the news/radio! I'm not sure how/if it will affect something like construction of what this event will mean in regards to the WTC site, but it is a historic moment of some kind. I'll be Obama's been feeling pretty proud of himself sitting around and watching all the reactions.

Psychologically, it might motivate people to finish the construction more proudly, but I doubt anything would change drastically. Then again, you never can exactly tell what happens when large groups of people become emotionally excited.

You know one thing that kind of weirds me out about the news? It's about a person who has basically been nothing but smoke since 9/11 happened. All anyone here has known about him since has basically been ephemera. Then Obama comes on the screen and says, "Alright, we've done it!" and everyone gets excited. We've generally trusted Obama partly just because of his projection of conviction/confidence, but it's not like we're getting any inner view whatsoever of the mechanics behind this...not trusting Obama less, per se, but how do we know that he wasn't just hunting some kind of figment also? How can we tell for sure if anything about this is real?

I agree. there are fanatics in any group. Just like those westboro baptist church people. It doesn't mean all baptist are total idiots, just that one group. Same way with muslims. It's the fanatics that are the problem. I thought about how Osama died and how appropriate it was. Just as the 9/11 attacks were so sudden and unexpected.................so was his death!

You're not alone friend. The government dropped the body in the ocean without showing any real proof that they killed Osama. Why would they do that? Knowing that the whole world would want proof, well some of the world. There are the incredibly gullible who will believe anything they see on the news without doing their own research. I love Obama, for his work he's done, but this whole thing seems a little weird to me. Not to mention Benazir Bhutto, the prime minister of Pakistan, was assassinated only 25 days after mentioning that Osama had been killed on the BBC on the 2nd of December. Seems to me like something is being hidden from us. On a brighter note, It's nice to see our country so unified and patriotic. It's always heart warming to see crowds of people chanting "USA USA."

On topic: I never imagined seeing this tower taller than 7WTC. Seems to me like I was so anxious to see it pass that milestone, that it felt like forever to get there.

I also got a kick of crowds cheering at WTC. That site has been so much about memorials, focusing on the past, and mourning of the dead for such a long time that watching something like people cheering in the streets can't help but make you feel up-lifted just by virtue of its sheer enthusiasm.

But yeah, also, the covert way this has all been handled gave me a lot of immediate doubt too (even the DNA reports on the news have evidence only from "unnamed sources"). Not being a downer--just saying, yeah, there's doubts we may as well acknowledge. And the potential effects of this are also probably why Obama put intelligence units on high alert as soon as it happened.

But again, I'm just happy seeing the enthusiasm and really hoping it is true, so I'm riding with that also.

:previous: I'm sure we'll be seeing video any day now. But then, I've also seen a lot of videos of UFO landings. :jester:

They dumped his body in the ocean because they didn't want a burial site to become a shrine to future jihadists. Also, Muslim tradition requires prompt burial, usually within 24 hours, and they wanted to adhere to that to, again, avoid angering terrorists and the Muslim world. It was a very smart thing to do, especially because people would be asking for the body to be returned to family, republicans would find some way to criticize it (like taking up space in a high-security "tax-payer financed" morgue with extra security or some bullshit like that), etc. etc. Come on, people. Let's use our brains a little bit here and not turn into birthers, people who believe we didn't land on the moon, or the people that think 9/11 was an inside job.

And for the record, what kind of proof do you want? Even if a picture is released, people will think it's fake. DNA evidence? Well surely the government can fake that... I mean what could possibly be provided to the public that is definitively a record of his death?? Tour his body around the country? Cadavers can be faked too...I mean where does it stop?

I was down at the site at around 11:00 this morning and even then there were a lot of people around. I thought it was kind of cool to be visiting New York on such a momentous day. I'll most likely be posting some of my pictures when I return home on the weekend.

News vans can really uglify a place. It's starting to look like a SETI site. :haha:

Also, I don't know if it's just me, but the tower looks like it's getting thinner as it grows. I don't know if it's just the taper effect becoming more evident or if I'm going crazy.

:previous: tell me about it, I hate when you're at a site and news vans get in the way of the pics you're trying to take. It's not like you can ask them to get out of the way, they'll just tell you that the public is asking for some kind of coverage immediately and that's more important than the creative work that needs to be done. Weird that you'd mention it now though, don't people here who aren't able to be there want to have news? Personally I've been news-starved about this. I cannot find enough news on the internet even though I'm dying to be at the site and seeing it.

This will be a great opportunity for the country and the world to see just how far the rebuilding has come.

Nicely done, President Obama.

Hopefully the virgins waiting for Osama are male rapists.

Or nuns with high-powered rifles aimed at his face!

Ok, and now for a little humor... What were Osama's final words?

Give up?

"Oh no... RAID?!!" [Boom!]

just like in the Raid roach killer ads. :-)

One of Dave Lettermans Top 10 last night was...

"I need the US Navy Seals in my house like a need a hole in my head". :haha::haha:

Back to WTC talk.... Looks like the glass is up to 16 rows already. I was away for 12 days and came home and noticed the difference. It also gave me the chance to see WTC in person for the first time. While stuck on the Verazanno Bridge you could see her in all it's glory. The one time I didn't mind waiting to come home to LI while stuck on the bridge. :)

Here's another strange parrallel. Timothy McVeigh was executed on 6/11/01. Just turn that number six upside down, and see what you get. Might not be as far fetched, as you think.

Can we please not start changing numbers and dates to seem like they are related to other dates and numbers and get back on topic? Maybe there can be a new thread for Bin Laden stuff.

Which raises the OT-but-still-interesting alternate history question, will the NY skyline ultimately be better or worse because of 9/11? Would Lower Manhattan have become a stagnant museum without the system shock? Would Midtown have become mediocre without the new energy thrust into the identity of New York? In fact, I think I'll start a thread on that.

The only problem with discussion along those lines is that some will assert that there really can be no objective answer to what is a matter of personal taste, and then immediately get into "Well, that's YOUR opinion!" type disputes.

Which renders the whole discussion pointless and annoying.

Ugh. This has become horribly disrespectful. Its not about being better or worse. Its not "better" that 3000 people senselessly died. 9-11 scarred thousands of families, a city, and a nation. I highly doubt any victim or their family would consider a redecoration of the skyline as a value for their life or the life of a loved one, let alone 3000 fold.

This thread exists because this city, the US government, and the people of New York think that rebuilding the site is part of a national catharsis, of healing. The business community values replacing lost office space as part of the business of making one of the most valuable pieces of real estate in the world profitable. Lets be thankful that we are rebuilding in a way that dignifies this city and its victims, and not talk about peoples lives as if mass murder was under consideration as a mechanism for improving the skyline.

I know it's an optical illusion, but I LOVE the appearance of the ESB's spire/antenna perched atop Goldman Sachs. Just step back and imagine if that optical illusion were one building, if Goldman Sachs really had a spire like that. I mean... how friggin' AWESOME!!! Really gives the building some character, almost like it's transplanted out of Perth or Melbourne.

Too bad for optical illusions... :(

I am sorry to inform you that the forum member that you all knew as Zensteeldude died from injuries sustained in an auto accident on April 20th, the day before his 49th birthday.

Know that his wife and three children are alive and well and coping with this tragedy as best they can. This is the LAST post from Zen. God bless us all.

Obviously it won't be the same, with the new buildings, but it definitely won't be worse. We'll just have to wait and see if it will be better or not with the new buildings. Once they're done it'll be better than it is now.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Zen's tragic loss. He and I butted heads on many occasions on these sites, but in private messages had become good friends.

Although no one has officially died so far in the construction of these towers, I will never be able to think of them that way again. We have lost a friend, a teacher, a mentor and a buddy.

You were so proud of these towers. Their design, their construction and most importantly you were so proud of all the people involved in their construction. No one wanted to see these towers finished more than you and I hope someone in New York will lay some flowers at the memorial in your name when they are done.

My thoughts are with your family and I wish they find the solace they deserve in this tragic time.

God bless you Chris, I will miss you.

Mitchell
