Well, I guess we truly don't need to overreact if this is what might happen, but I doubt it. Durst has been responsible for making antenatal spires which look like this.

Hopefully they will have a bit of realization of what they are dealing with. As for the frateral twin concept, 2 WTC is the likely contender for 1 WTC, if it stays the same height.

No can do. The foundation has already been set, so adding any more floors than originally designed is a danger to the site.
They wouldn't necessarily have to add floors. Im saying just put up a steel and glass pyramind shell that encloses of the communications ring to increase the roof height. Heck, the could evern build the spire right through it. It would be more of a comsmetic/ aesthetic thing.

Obelisks have been structures that symbolize of power throughout histroy (i.e. Ancient Egypt, Greece). I think that idea suites this building well.

Once again, why are we saying it's not going to be an official 1,776 feet? They said it's still going to be a spire, just not as thick.

^^ The PA better check with CTBUH about the height measurement, if they don't want to suffer a surprise. The Council has strict regulations: spires count, antennas don't.
@NYC GUY: that link is a goldmine. I recommend everyone to check it out, the ring looks huuuge!!

I am glad I went to the World Trade Center yesterday. Too bad I couldn't get more pictures since my camera ran out of power, and it started to rain in Manhattan. I will get more pictures next time. I also wanted to upload them yesterday but I didn't get a chance to.

Yes. Antennas receive and send out signals.
Alright people can we please talk about the construction. I am tired of people talking about the mast. We will know when it happens. Until then I am going to use my old post to get things back on track.

And where is 1,373 feet coming from? It's 1,368 feet to the roof.
No. The official height will be 1,373' due to the lower elevation of the north entrance (El. 307'-10") which is 3'4" below the main lobby floor (El. 311'-2")

The stainless steel slatwalls and glass fins will get anchored to the base girts through the clip angles (the white squares you see on the girts). Down in the concrete walls, everything will get hunged from the halfen channels.

Glass can't really go up much if the steel is going up much, but new steel arrived so I am certain that glass work will start again around this week or later.

Ive seen some people mention that it had to do with the core. That the glass has to wait for the core to catch up cause it catches the wind or something , and also the glass has to slow down for the steel's slowness.

I will be laughing at you guys if we still have the original mast which brings us to 1,776 feet once it's complete. :haha:
*Shrugs* I wouldn't put it past New York developers, since 1930/1931 (40 Wall, 70 Pine, Chrysler, ESB) is probably the greatest instance of "my building is bigger than yours" in history. Now if you guys can direct some of that bravado towards getting easy transit access between the airports and Manhattan, then I would be impressed.

Why do the beams at the 92nd floor look like they have a different color?
This steel is now at a mechanical room plenum and exposed to atmosphere as air intakes and exhausts, so it gets a different type of fire proofing, cementitious. This steel has been painted with a special epoxy that prevents corrosion but also allows for the fireproofing to adhere to it, and pass the pull tests.

Why are they saying it's 1,776 feet?
Isn't it 1,787 with the lightning rod? Even SkyscraperPage has it listed at 1,787.
.....because a lightning rod is not part of the official height. Plus I think someone included elevation or something like that.....

are you sure the graph at the top of the page is good ? the current limit of height is higher in the real life than in the graph, to me....
Only one month before the expected-topping out date, a 8th of the tower is still missinge !!
they will never finish it on the delays !

That is what they said a few days ago. This tower is topping off a month and a half late. That means it won't be done till May 2012.

Since you are the man of the house in here for supplying us with pics, you got to go to the observation deck when they finally open it on the first day and supply us with pictures! i'd like you to see this picture:
http://images.usatoday.com/news/_photos/2006/06/29/freedom-tower-1.jpg
You will notice that, at a height of around 350 meters, there are lines on the facade of the tower... these lines are around 30 meters high...
Do you know if the milestone of these "line-floors" has been reached? i mean, have they already built some of these line-floors ? or are they still under the beginning of the lines ????
NOTE: it is an old picture, freedom tower had not yet its definitive design, but many details, like these lines, are kept for the current building.. ;)

Look carefully at the top of the tower just beneath the roof on the rendering. You can see vertical lines. Those represent the mechanical floors and are for ventilation near the top. The observation deck floors are just above those lines seen on the rendering. Hope that helps a little.

They were vents for the mechanical floors. The mechanical floors contained things like for the air conditioning, heating, and water pipes etc, and those bands would look nonexistent at some locations due to effects and things like that.

The sky lobbies were above the mechanical floors. The mechanical floors were open to the elements since they are vents. The vents were used to release heat, to allow water to be moved to upper floors, and to give the building some extra stability to the winds. Since people are asking about it here is a link on mechanical floors.

Carlos,is it possible to draw a red line to distinguish where excatly we're at,red line in that picture posted by USA Today that is?
Also,if you go to SkyscraperCity, they're many comments from people who seem to hate your work.It amazes me how people can be such disrespectful beings towards someone who usually provides pics on a daily basis. Now I can see why you chose to come here,as here you'll get all the praise you deserve and not some somewhere, where the people seem to be mad because you take pics in the "same spot".It just makes me mad and had to put it out there.
On a differnt note,do the mechanical floors have windows, how excatly do they get that color?
