I believe it is because the subfloor in that area is not complete yet. They will remove more as the subfloor is finished.

C'mon, north core! You can do it!

I think you can, I think you can...

A telethon would be pretty low brow for a project like this, but I have to admit that if Silverstein needs cash I'd be willing to donate a couple hundred bucks over the next few months just to see this tower through. If enough people around the country would be willing to do the same, then maybe we could bridge the gaps.

Silverstein isn't building or paying for this tower.

Posted this a few weeks ago.

Some note's from the PA's quarterly report...
http://www.panynj.gov/wtcprogress/pdf/1Q2009_Report.pdf

...The first quarter began with the full formation of the North pool of the 9/11 Memorial and ended with the contract award for the WTC Transportation Hub steel, which includes twice the amount of steel used for the new Yankee Stadium and came in on budget. In between, the Port Authority secured the first private tenant for One World Trade Center – nearly 200,000 square feet from Vantone Industrial Co., which puts the building at 50% occupancy, including prospective state and federal government tenants.

As the Port Authority looks ahead to the next Quarter, we will continue to be confronted with the challenges of rebuilding on such a complex and crowded site. The Memorial steel erection faces two critical deadlines if we are to continue the momentum generated to date. One World Trade Center faces another crane jump to ensure the building continues rising out of the ground.

Second Quarter 2009 Milestones

Complete North Core Shearwall to B1
Complete placement of reinforcing steel and high strength concrete for the North Core of One World Trade Center to bring it up to the B-1 level – the last level before grade.

South Core Crane Jump
This represents the movement of the southern tower crane from the supports within the South Core to the erection steel above the core. This movement will facilitate continued erection of the southern core. The South Core Crane has already made one previous jump.

Complete First Three Sections of Cutback of the Vesey Street Deck
Removal of these pieces of Vesey Street north of the One World Trade Center site will allow the installation to continue on the remainder of the building’s exterior columns and completion of basement deck construction in that area. This area of Vesey Street is already inside the fenced-off area and will not affect pedestrian movements.

________________

...Vesey Street Pedestrian Bridge Extension: In the first quarter of 2009, the Office developed a concept of extending the Vesey Street pedestrian bridge eastward to land East of Washington Street. The Office has shared this idea with the community and continues to develop it to determine exactly when it would be implemented.

One World Trade Center still remains at 105 feet when measured from the steel beams atop the South Core. Everything else is still below street level except the North Core which is at street level and working its way up there.

Actually it hasn't risen since February. I check Earth Cam everyday and there hasn't been any steel added to the South Core for a while now. The crane jump doesn't necessarily count as a height increase. Also the wtc progress site would have reported on a height increase. On Lower Manhattan info it says 140 feet but that is not accurate.

Well think of the North and South Cores as halves that make up a whole or sections. Technically there are 2 cores but they each serve the same purpose such as staircases, elevators, etc. It is still considered the core meaning one but there are two sections, North and South. The South Core is the highest part of the Tower currently and the North Core will soon reach that and hopefully once achieved the damn thing will go up :D

This building is going to be so big, that it will require two cores. Obviously one isn't enough.

The core looks so unassuming and simple so far. It's hard to tell that it'll support the tallest building in the western hemisphere (excluding the chicago spire). I'm getting antsy waiting for them to start climbing. There's just so much underground work that they've been doing first.

Pretty tall building but I don't know about "tallest" in the western hemisphere. Sears tower is still taller by roof height and the C.N. tower is still tallest from base to tip.

Sorry...don't mean to start a pissing match or anything. I'm just glad to see it actually going up finally.

It will be the tallest skyscraper in the western hemisphere (1,776 ft) and the CN tower isn't a skyscraper. And that's the end of that discussion.

No one knows. The HD cam and RGZ's webcam have been down for over a week.

Maybe for security concerns?

The pre-jump picture was captured on Saturday June 13, 2009; the post-jump picture Tuesday morning 6/16/09, both the remaining EarthCam. I lined up the pictures, cropped them and increased the contrast. Usually the jumps occur on weekends, so it may have happened a couple days ago. The jump occurred much faster that the previous N. Core jumps!

Work in that area is supposed to move faster starting sometime this month. Sometime during the summer, the outer columns should begin to rise also.

-Final concrete pours are taking place on the sub-grade structure
-Utility installation and tie-ins
