It was an early morning for me. Saw your pic with the sun in it and just figured that it was the sun rising. Guess the "Friday September 21st" on the pic should have given it away!!

Does anybody else wonder how the tower would look if it were cladded with a grey tinted glass and not blue? Just looking at a few renders and noticed it would kind of resemble the orginal twins.

The glass on 1wtc is not tinted at all. The color you see is merely a reflection of the sky around it.

I don't think they'll install the last two spandrels at the northern corner until the crane that they are just installing the first mast sections for is done with lifting spire sections for the spire to the temp platform and removed. Also, they still have a lot to lift and I doubt glass would be a good idea yet.

Look at the building on a cloudy day and you will see what it looks like grey. As stated above, the glass is ultra low iron class (very clear). There is no tint to it. Tower four on the other hand has high iron glass (more reflective).

Ahhhhhhh. The rising glass on both 1 and 4 WTC still takes my breath away every time I see pics of them/see them in person. I am really digging how close 4 WTC is to being completely cladded... WTC Construction Leads to Downgrade of Port Authority’s Bond Rating

By Ted Mann

The potential downgrade that spooked the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey into raising tolls and fares last year happened anyway Monday, and a driving factor was the cost of reconstruction at the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan.

Analysts from Moody’s Investors Service downgraded the bond rating for the Port, to Aa3 from Aa2. The downgrade will affect $18.2 billion in consolidated bonds, Moody’s said. It could add millions of dollars to the Port’s borrowing costs, even as leadership struggles to shore up its finances as the World Trade Center development enters its final stages.

The primary factor in the downgrade was roughly $2 billion in new costs the authority will shoulder through 2016, a figure driven by the authority’s share of the redevelopment of the Trade Center. In addition, a recently completed audit of the authority’s finances shows as much as $17 billion in new potential capital needs over the next 10 years...

Seen this on Wired New York.
From LMCCC:

The spire is being fabricated as 16 separate sections at a factory near Montreal, and will be transported by barge to New York City in mid-November. During its 11-day voyage, the barge will travel down the Eastern Seaboard and into New York Harbor to dock at Pier 25, at N. Moore and West Street.
Just after Thanksgiving, crews will begin to transport the spire segments one by one to the WTC site. Each one will be hoisted from the barge onto a 21-foot-wide truck specially designed to carry the sections feet and weigh up to 47 tons (about the weight of a full tractor-trailer). Upon reaching the WTC site, the spire sections will be assembled, piece by piece, at the top of 1 WTC.
Workers are currently installing a temporary steel framework at the top of the tower to support the spire during assembly. Two cranes will lift each spire section into place: one carries the section up to the 1,370-foot-high platform, and another lifts the piece into place onto the spire. The process is expected to conclude in early 2013, but the exact date will depend on weather during the operations.

I should have read before I posted that question, reading further on at IrishGuy's post

The ring is a major undertaking first. You won't see tower sections of the antenna until well into 2013.

I know it's been 11 years now... And I honestly didn't think that would happen, but seeing the picture of the United plane with the WTC in the background made me sad and a little sick... :(

I know, I know. The planes that hit the twin towers on 9/11 originated from Boston, so that's different. But United 93 did originate out of Newark, after all. I'm honestly surprised how I felt by seeing that picture... It is a mighty lovely picture though! :)

^Once a doubter of the new WTC,I can't believe how beautiful it has turned out,and it's not even halfway there.

Hi, I'm a newbie here but I don't expect to be on here all that much.

I recently saw 1 WTC when I was in NYC and it looked stunning (and this is coming from a former skeptic) but I find the antenna to be a slap in the face to the design of the building. Forgive me if I'm beating a dead horse here but I find it very surprising that David Childs/SOM hasn't done anything to remedy the spire design or that's at least how it appears. If I were the architect of a high-profile project like this and some sleazy real-estate organization intervened in my design for sake of saving $$$, I wouldn't compromise my design without a fight, I'd even sue if I had to. I don't what you guys think, but I'm under the impression that Childs has given up trying to work with Durst, but hopefully I'm proven wrong.

Just wondering, the newer base design (which I do like), was that designed by SOM or some other firm working with Durst? Because if Childs did design the new base, then a modified spire wouldn't be impossible at all. Like I said, it ruins the aesthetics of the building's design. Maybe they can do something similar to the BofA Tower's spire (another Durst property) which doesn't look half bad and is counted in the final height.

So I don't mean to rehash this spire discussion but I wanna know if anybody else gets the impression that Childs and SOM have caved into Durst. I just hope the Tall Building Council declares the spire as an antenna and hopefully that would send a message to Durst and give this building a chance to redeem itself.
