I'm pretty sure that Silverstein Properties would be aware of pretty much any change orders that arise, since they are acting as the owners of the building (even if they don't technically own it). They're just not in the business of updating their websites to sate the interests of skyscraper enthusiasts who are interested in all sorts of major and minor construction details. Nor is it the business of the Port Authority to do so with their own website.

Basically, we can observe and report the updates that are posted on these websites, but we shouldn't rely on them as being completely accurate or current. And we certainly shouldn't be using them as rock-solid sources to back up our opinions and claims. After all, what was the last project of any kind in which the owners and construction company were forthright with keeping the public informed of exactly what they were doing, and when they were doing it?

Silverstein Properties not the owner or operator of 1 WTC at all. The 2006 deal with SPI gave 1 WTC and 5 WTC back to the Port Authority to own, build and manage. 1 WTC is owned by the PA, being built by Tishman as an agent for the PA and all contracts for the building are authorized by PA Board. It will be managed by a JV of durst/PA. SPI has nothing to do with 1 WTC, many many things have changed in it's design since SPI turned it over to the Port.

I knew no steel would be going up today, hopefully tomorrow.

It probably wasn't because of the wind though. Accuweather is never right, it always has these alerts that never happen. Unless the National Weather Service has an alert, don't trust it. And are we talking vertical steel, or perimeter columns that we're waiting for?

I only get happy for the perimeter columns but the core columns are also very welcomed. Also, that Accu website is quite unreliable when it comes to large cities for some reason.

ANOTHER SLOW DOWN, MORE COST, ETC.

A report I just read indicated that a massive oversight in the positioning and time line of the WTC 1's sub level loading docks are blocked by the temporary path station and will therefore impede the ability for tenants to move in by the completion date. As a result, for an extra cost of more than 50 million, temporary loading docks will have to be erected until the new path station is completed, and the old temporary one is removed.

Thanks alan for the update, 9 trucks!! how many lengths of steel are on a truck?! is it all for WTC 1?

It's supposed to top out in April. I think that's feasible considering that it looks like the tower's in for another growth spurt like the one we saw late October-early November when they added new steel for three weeks in a row:fingerscrossed:

I forgot who, but someone posted a week or so ago that as long as new steel went up in the next week or two they are still within the schedule to meet the April top out date.

How many more jumps of steel are we looking at 4 to 5 after this jump??

Audit slams Port Authority over skyrocketing cost of World Trade Center
Tab has soared $4B in 4 years

The Port Authority has let the cost of the new World Trade Center get out of control, with the estimated price tag soaring nearly $4 billion over the last four years, auditors said Tuesday.

Navigant Consulting said the project is now expected to cost $14.8 billion, 35% more than the last estimate of $11 billion in 2008.

Gov. Cuomo and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie ordered the review of the Trade Center site’s owner, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, after the agency’s board voted to raise bridge and tunnel tolls in August.

The auditors said the Port Authority, which runs area transit hubs including Kennedy and LaGuardia airports, is “a challenged and dysfunctional organization suffering from a lack of consistent leadership, a siloed underlying bureaucracy, poorly coordinated capital planning processes, insufficient cost controls and a lack of transparent and effective oversight of the World Trade Center program that has obscured full awareness of billions of dollars in exposure to the Port Authority.”

The Port Authority has lost millions of dollars in revenue because of lower traffic at the ports, airports and river crossings it operates, and the World Trade Center has suffered a number of setbacks since rebuilding began after the 9-11 attacks destroyed its Twin Towers.

The company that is laying steel for the main tower has run into financial problems. A mistake in the design means the Port Authority will have to spend millions of dollars on temporary loading docks for the building. And the builders of the Sept. 11 museum are fighting with the agency over construction costs.

The Port Authority’s new director, Patrick Foye, said Tuesday the agency was taking the auditing firm’s recommendations seriously and would begin an overhaul of its structure.

Hey there neighbor. I'm from North Dakota myself.

Pretty much any spot in the city is a good place to view the skyline. As you will see, as you move around the city changes around you. Buildings that were hidden by others pop into view as you walk around.

Carlos already answered your question, but that walkway goes all the way down to Battery Park at the southern tip of Manhattan. Just head west towards the Hudson River and then start walking south.

What hotel are you staying at?

Terrible.:yuck:

I mean, what a waste. I hope this org. doesn't build any more real estate and stick to the ports/airports/bridges in the future.

Maybe they should privatize the airports given their awful track record here. I'm sure a private company would have nicer terminals and concessions and a better run airport system.

This organization is horrible!

I agree with the person above me, but in reality, Newark, JFK and LGA are some of the worst airports in the nation! They are dirty, old, and just not conducive to the rapid growth of air travel in this region!

This agency needs a major restructuring to get there act together. This entire project should have been completed a while ago, and the Port needs to get their priorities in line.

Its actually embarrassing.

The terminals at the airports by the way are built and operated by the airlines except for LGA Central Terminal & Newark Terminal B. Delta had planed to replace terminal 2 & 3 before 9/11 and then pulled back. They are now partnered with Terminal 4 which is run by Schipol (Amsterdam airport operator ) and construction is well underway on new international wing to handle delta.
