*faints*

I can only pray that the original enclosed communication rings pictured in this beautiful rendition is what we get. For the life of me I don't know why they changed it to exposed radomes. (anybody know?) This (original) version looks far better -it actually matches the faceted nature of the building and is a true "crown."

To be honest- I think this version looks like a silly hat. I much prefer the exposed versions. Hmm, who knows what we'll get?!

Great shots guys!!!

I hope that they will reconsider the height of observation deck(s).
Would be great to have an outdoor deck too. Parapet could be an answer...

No. The building's observation deck has been built like that because of the number of mechanical floors, and there is no room for an open air observation deck, plus with radiation coming off the mast. Just no.

Ive been trying to figure out why i'm not very fond of the spire as depicted in the posts above and i think i know why. As silly as this may sound,it looks like a big upside down roofing nail to me. Personally i'd like to see a reproduction of what was sitting atop the North tower albeit tweeked a tad to look a bit more streamlined/modern i suppose. I guess im not really feeling the way the spire fattens up in the middle and slims down as it goes upward and i think the octagonal.........motif??.........looks a little funky. Almost like it's being overdone/trying too hard,so to speak.........if you get my meaning. I dunno

It is real. I hope you aren't related anyway to MadGnome, but the threat is real. It has been explained to death in the PDF I posted and the definition of an antenna is a mast that releases radiation.

This link is going to put this topic to death once and for all.

I don't think you understand what radiation is. You seem to think the mere presence of radiation implies harm... it doesn't. NPR streaming from my radio is radiation. Light is radiation. My computer is emitting radiation into me right now. *I* am emitting radiation.

That link you posted has absolutely nothing to do with harmful radiation. How old are you? You're operating with a 5th grader's notion of what radiation is...

Even if the radiation isn't that strong let's just say that it isn't there is still a lot of equipment up there that prevents any observation deck to go any higher than the one that is going up now.

Good photos! Especially from 84th floor. It gives a little imagination of what the view should be 10+ floors higher in 2013. Thank you all guys for updating with photos. I am away from NYC and miss it so much, and have a chance to see our skyline changes only with Liberty webcams and your updates. THANKS!!!

As for the radiation - I got it. But I guess there's a beaming/emission of "telecoms". If you stand for a long right across the "tablets", round transmitters, you can get bold.

Anyway, it would be good if there is an option for outdoor observation deck. Maybe not in 2013, but later, in 2015 or 2017. Who knows...

Lol don't count on it, there is still plenty of work for the construction workers to do on this Tower like the spire, communication ring, core, interior, cladding, the base, etc. This Tower has a good nearly two years before completion maybe a year and a half. It will probably go by in no time so before you know it we'll all be at the observation deck celebrating the opening of the Tower.

I've been watching this go up for some time. I live and work in Manhattan, and was here on 9/11.

I doubt this will be a popular opinion, but I find this building to be utterly banal. Soulless, without personality or meaning, just an over-scaled generic office tower that could be found anywhere.

Childs should never have been let near this project.

Nope and not everyone was happy with the originals either, in fact, most disapproved when they were built. The more i see of this the more i am a fan of it, i think it is just elegant and is perfect for the skyline. I was very skeptical but not any longer:worship:

You mean the east side right?

I've been watching this go up for some time. I live and work in Manhattan, and was here on 9/11.

I doubt this will be a popular opinion, but I find this building to be utterly banal. Soulless, without personality or meaning, just an over-scaled generic office tower that could be found anywhere.

Childs should never have been let near this project.

I agree. I love the shape, the spire, and obviously the height, but I find the cladding completely boring. In fact, the cladding could not be more boring, as there is literally nothing special about it. Just blue. It's a shame, too, as 7 WTC turned out so well...

Oh Yes, that original design was an insult added to injury.
Yep that original was awful! It was basically a building 300 feet shorter than the originals with a 600 foot ladder stapled on the corner. I like this design but just wish it was taller or had a twin. It still seems like a timid response to me. However, this is still a great tower and if they build the other planned supertalls I think people will be pleased. Have a great day everyone!

THe cladding on either is not blue at all. It's just very reflective- so it appears blue when the sky is blue, grey when it's cloudy, even orange at sunset! It's not blue.

I'm sure they'll light it up for Christmas like they did last year. The Tower was at the 52nd floor last December at around this time so it grew over 500 feet in one year, not bad. Next year it will have reached its full height so things are looking good.

That is exactly, what the complaints were, about the originals. Not everyone is going to be happy.

Very true, in fact, most of Amerca knew nothing about or cared much for the look of the Twin Towers or what it symbolized. It is that - symbolism with which this building currently holds - to why I have, over the years, come to love this building but that notion has changed to a love of the design and space.

Fact is, the only people that cared about the symbolism of the Twin Towers, that most Americans now understand of the Twin towers, was what those that destroyed the buildings in the first place were thinking of; not the design, form, or how tall (though to some degree, that in of it self symbolized the power of this nation) it was. Just that it was a WTC structure in Western society that was assumed to represent the world's commerce, similar to many of U.S. embassies that have been... in other countries.

To the other person person that gave their opinion, to which is that person's opinion and should be respected, give it time. You will love what this building is, and how it looks against the blanket of other NYC buildings. I do not know if it is the design I really do love but I do love the design so much and the green spaces around it. I just hope they do not build that art center/or school next to 1 WTC. I hope it reminds green and an an open space. I would hate to suggest that it be the inevitable actions of hate (this building will forever be a product of that very symbolism and thus will always be on high levels of alert that I have often said, if societies of this world do not change, we might has well have named this building after Trump thereby decreasing the deeply rooted symbolism associated with the new WTC buildings, for which the value of that symbolism as increased over time therefore, sadly, increasing its vulnerability to actions of hate) from others for one to decide that the building they see everyday or walk by everyday or see in pictures, postcards, TV, movies, and other forms of product and other media now love this building and it's design. Now, in all fairness, I love this building and design, a part from anything to do with the past. I have come to know realize that. It is a building that NYC needs and sadly, due to how it came about, NYC has been given what it needs most - taller (thus increasing population, not to say a world like that of the Fifth Element is possible), more innovative and modern designs. The only issue I hold is with height. When first announced, this was to be the tallest in the world. I say, since it took some time to start building and has taken some time for completion to just make it 1776 feet tall (the roof)? On a side note, there you go, a twofold effect of vulnerability  from symbolism. The problem here is that most any new, at least for some time now, will not dare to go taller than that of WTC 1, at least as far as NYC is concerned. Then again, if done, would take much of the spot light regarding the height of the building and the meaning behind both the roof height and spire, at least over time.

Just as an FYI, once they cover the perimeter columns in drywall, they'll be much more prominent, like in 7WTC. The fireproofing isn't nearly as reflective, so the pinstripe effect is still muted. Great photo BTW.

Carlos: The beams that are going in above floor 89. Is that for the 13'4'' window spacing? You can see they have yet to install beams for floor 90 just above that.

The beams on the lower right are floor 89. The ones on the upper left are not yet floor 90 or 23' above the ones on the lower right.
