The Millennium Hotel is already screwed. When all of the WTC buildings are built, their views will be cut off and all the people in the front hotel will see nothing but a building in front of them.

Not exactly, the Millennium will have the best view in the house. It faces the Calatrava hub while 3 faces the Century 21 building 4 faces US Steel and 2 faces the graveyard.

Hmmm. I found this picture of The Shard in London, and it's facade is very similar to 1WTC's, in terms of panel shape and size:

Wow! Is that really WTC1? It's really big and different. That cap in kind of odd, and it looks like the glass is simply another way to project the WTC1. I would not doubt that the glass is bulletproof. I would like to hope so.

Does anyone know what type of trees are being used at 1WTC? I love all those trees, and I am sure they will grow as with the trees in the near by parks. I just wish and hope, however, that more be placed. I kind of wish, though, that the WTC memorial was more of a park without all that concrete; may be I am wrong, but it appears that nothing but concrete is wrapped around the trees. And regarding that lawsuit going on, I just think those people are ungrateful that those hard working people are moving faster than ever. I like to believe they would want that. Think of how much those hotels with a eye full of candy will charge it's guest after the WTC site and memorial are finished? If anything, a lawsuit would slow down work significantly, and no guest likes to see amass of construction as their 'view'. You know, I suggest that, when all is finished, each WTC building charge the surrounding hotels for being near a national memorial or allowing them to promote the WTC site and it's memorial, as having 'great views' or as being of walking distance and do not forget those packages with tickets to the observation desks. As is, some are already charging more for a WTC view. So, I say, why not? D.C. Hotels change more for views of, for example, the White House, among others. As one said, it's all about the money. True. Very true. They just want it now and later as well. However, they really cannot win unless it is shown that they have lost business. That is, if they hotels are still filling up - no lawsuit. I would still stay just to get a view of what is going on!

it is quite underestimated how much of an impact 99 church would make on the aesthetics of the skyline, as far as graduating the northern downward slope of the peak of downtown created by the wtc. that tower is definitely needed to bring the viewer's eye from 1wtc to the lowrises mere blocks away.

That's a good question! Isn't the light at the top of WTC 7 supposed to be lit every night?

Wow! Is that really WTC1? It's really big and different. That cap in kind of odd, and it looks like the glass is simply another way to project the WTC1. I would not doubt that the glass is bulletproof. I would like to hope so.

Um, no? It's the shard, in London, UK?

I wonder why the WTC 7 light at the top was not lit last night.. It's not the first skyscraper to not cut the light on for one night.. I wonder why is that? Is it because they want to save power or something?

Absolutely incredible to think that 4 wtc will be as tall as 1 wtc is now, and that is the "stump"! You tend to forget how much 1 wtc will rise above the lower manhatten skyline.

Maybe they were working on the floodlights? I wouldn't get too concerned about it, guys. lol

And while I certainly hope Towers 2 and 3 are built quickly, I'm also going to savor the years when 1 and 4 are all alone. Tower 1 looks massive without Tower 2 next door.

Hey Steveve,

Well little buddy, according to all renders I have seen, it will be at 300 meters on the 79th floor and 1000 feet on the 81st. The steel is presently set for the 77 and 78th floors.

While there will be less floors in the new WTC, it will be taller than the old WTC.

Sadly, the new WTC will NOT have a observation deck on the roof (which was a big disappointment to me).
However, there will be a indoor observation deck at the top.

Tower One will have 5 sub-grade levels, a ground level lobby, a transfer floor, 9 mechanical floors & 2 mechanical-mezzanines, 69 office floors, 2 broadcasting floors, 2 levels dedicated to the observation deck and one formerly restaurant floor.
The numbering is pretty tricky, since there are no floors between 7-19 or 94-99 + the roof is counted as a "floor" as well as the cooling catwalks, the 3 level communications ring and a platform located in the spire.
Here's a quick sketch, ignore my mistake of "4 subgrade levels" there are 5. ;)

Can anyone tell me how much stronger WTC1 is compared to others? As I have said before, we all know modern buildings cannot last long, for instance, due to its glass and the way glass works overtime primarily to gravity, but I know this building (i.e., WTC1) is being built differently and it’s much more stronger than its taller more recent counterpart buildings around the world. Yet, this building is much stronger, as I have been told. So, how is that and how much stronger are we talking about here. To those that answer, please keep in mind that I am a layperson in terms of construction. Lastly, is the same construction being applied to the other WTC buildings or just WTC1? I ask simply because it seems that WTC4 is going up a lot faster than WTC1 when compared to its floors and period of time, respectfully.

I had not been on this site since early-mid May, and I was shocked at how much it had grown! Those workers must be putting in overtime or something. Those are true Americans! Wanting so badly to surprise on what is to come on Sept 11th, 2011. Who knows, they may even top it off by then. You never know! Hey, **** happens - Forest Gump. At that time, and a bit before that, I was kind of disappointed at the progress. It looked pretty much the same from the months of Nov 2010-May 2011. May be the winter really slowed it down. It is crazy how weather works. One of the coldest winters in years, and now it is becoming one of the hottest Spring/Summers in years, at least over here in the South of the United States. I remember not too long ago Chicago having some dangerous winter storms and some crazy lightning. This was also the year of which many parts of South and North Texas got snow, of which San Antonio, in particular (where I am from).

Anyway, back to the original comment - I just never thought it would even be at this high back in May for this time of the year. I thought to myself, never will this tower pass even WTC7 by the end of August month before Sept. I look at a picture I took of two or three steel beams back in March of 2009, a site that was no bigger than my apartment, and look at the picture of the site today and it is truly 'the road to awe' - The Fountain.
Thanks to all those that are taking pictures. You all should help with updating Wiki.

I last read somewhere One World Trade Center would have a lifespan of 150 years like the old Twin Towers of the WTC, but the Twins were destroyed. Had it not been destroyed they would last a lot longer. You are correct though that One World Trade Center is a lot stronger. The building has a concrete base resistant to car bombings, and not just that the steel is grade A, and is extremely strong for a building. It's much stronger then the steel used in the Twins if I am correct. The Twin Towers had spray on fireproofing, but One World Trade Center would have concrete fireproofing. So when you think of a steel beam in One World Trade Center think of a strong steel beam coated with thick reinforced concrete. Now that is a strong steel beam. You also have a concrete core unlike the original drywall core in the Twin Towers, and you have 4 emergency stairs unlike the 3 stairs in the Twin Towers. The staircases are also wider to allow more mobility, and they are also protected itself. In fact you can say that One World Trade Center is one strong building much stronger than its predecessor.

.....Had it not been destroyed they would last a lot longer. ....

Just a guess, but I surmise that would be true of a lot of things. ;)

..."much stronger then it's predecessor." should be... "much stronger than it's predecessor." Sorry to pick on you there, but I have noticed that the under 30 crowd misspells "then" right and left and I don't get it? Then and Than sound differently, and they are spelled just like they sound so I don't see how there could be any confusion. Then sounds like bend. Than sounds like band. But those would not be misspelled with anywhere near the frequency you see the younger crowd misspell than as then lol. I find it curious.

Feds' space at One World Trade cut in half
Big U.S. agency to take just 300,000 square feet, as Port Authority of New York & New Jersey bets it can land higher-paying tenants; huge New York state lease out.

By Theresa Agovino
August 8, 2011

...tremendous tenant interest in the building has convinced Port Authority officials it can find private sector companies willing to pay higher rents in the 104-story tower scheduled for completion in 2013. Sources have said, for example, that law firm Chadbourne & Park has been looking at the building.

“We have had significant interest in One World Trade,” said Port Authority executive director Christopher Ward. “And what is left is premium space (above the middle of the tower).”

2WTC doesn't quite have the same level of bomb-proofness that 1WTC does, which is why it was an appealing building for some federal agencies. The feds are also looking to slash headcount in the next few years, so they probably won't need the space.
