I see too many people listening to Mercenary's Propaganda, then too many of "us" running with his opinion's they're certainly not facts... Now I don't post often at all, but this guy is seriously a TROLL.... He re-edited wikipedia, and has MOST of "us" believing he knows what he's saying... Mercenary you're probably some 13year old TROLL living in the basement (in another counry) trying to come off like an expert or an employee at the WTC site... All others.. DO NOT BELIEVE OR BUY INTO HIS POSTS!!!!!!

I know the internet is probably just one big joke to people like you, but for people like us, who actually use it to its full extent, really don't take kindly to trolls. And please save us the argument of saying you are not a troll, we have all seen you troll. Its not funny, we don't like. So post some things with relevence to the thread and maybe I won't have to say this again.

Anyway, August 3rd seems a little too early for an official top out date. My guess would be somewhere around august 10th.

I feel that the recently completed WTC 7 and Goldman Sachs towers just compliment One WTC immensely.

I really like how the density of the area is filling up.
It's going to really make the WTC site a destination when the transportation hub completes this transformation. ;)

I'm no expert but it was the normal red-ish steel rather than the grey coated stuff that went up last week. There seems to be a decent amount of both types on earth cam on the south side of the base, waiting to go up.

I work at 2Wfc so will try to keep an eye on it.

I don't get it. How are these massive projects like Hudson Yards supposedly getting built, but they can't even find tennants for the WTC sites?

If towers 2 and 3 get capped off, this whole project will be a complete waste. Maybe that's just an over-reaction on my part, but it just pisses me off that they've spent all these years messing with this project, and they can't even seem to get it fully off the ground still.....

Nope, NY Housing Authority:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladeck_Houses

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaGuardia_Houses

It's amazing they don't all get redeveloped, but I guess they don't have problems as intense as other projects that have been razed around the country. Still... riverfront, close to Downtown, the gentrifying LES and Brooklyn.

I am curious myself...

It's more complicated than supply and demand. Commercial tenants are usually very particular. The Hudson Yards probably offers better rates. Some tenants probably like the idea of being closer to residential neighborhoods like Hell's Kitchen, the Upper West Side, and Riverside even.

Personally, I hate the Financial District. The streets are too narrow, too congested. The half a dozen massive construction projects makes it even worse. Fulton Transit center somehow makes a horrible commuting situation worse (at least for the time being).

The memorial is a disaster. Listless tourists pouring into the streets out of those horrendous buses that take up precious little space. It's like enduring a freakish Disney World with no rules and no common sense.

Forgetting about the tourists, let's complain about getting lunch. If you aren't in a nice new building with a cafe inside, you have too deal with long lines in crowded delis. Its horrible. Midtown is only a little better. My favorite places to work have always been on the far west side where there are very few commercial buildings and fewer tourists. It's much more civilized. If I were in charge of finding a space for my company - I would pick the Hudson Yards over the WTC any day for all the reasons I just listed.

Also, let's not forget that sometimes its just being superstitious. A lot of the New Yorker staff balked at the idea of moving into 1WTC with Conde Nast. I'm sure there are plenty of companies that don't want to work in a building they perceive to be a target. Take that all together, and an inability to lower rents any further, and you can begin to imagine why Silverstein and the PA are having a hard time attracting tenants.

With the econemy and still space in 1 and 4 wtc, it's obvious from this article, 3 wtc will be the next building to top out in the future. To see a line like 2 wtc has been put on the shelf, is not good.

Quick answer, almost 90% of Manhattan's commercial real estate predate 1970.

I agree that for the time being the Financial District is a war-zone and not comfortably inhabitable. However, the Financial District is my favorite neighborhood anywhere on the eastern seaboard because of its narrow streets and precipitous skyscrapers. I live there currently and I love the feeling of dwelling in a labyrinth of canyons (it gives me a sense of safety and modernity). This is, of course, my personal taste, and I know that I am not alone. I love the Financial District because of its pre-9/11 past and its future, even if I loathe its current condition. Once all the construction is done, I think the neighborhood will attract businesses and tourists alike, just as the original WTC did, only now we'll have a greater influx of residents as well.

Hey Guys!

I'm new here, but I've been following the 1WTC and 2WTC progress for quite sometime now. Out of all of the 1,000 footers planned or going up soon, One World Trade is without a doubt my favorite, even if Durst scrapped the spire.

Also, what does Alan mean by "send steel back"?

as a frequent visitor, it is my favorite area as well even with all that going on but like i say, i'm just a visitor...........and it was Bloomberg's et al plan to get more residential downtown after 9/11 and with the conversions etc going on, it's certainly on it's way.

The skyscrapers of NYC are definitely too close to each other..

as a result, instead of a majestic forest of skyscrapers, the city looks like a assembly of big blocks...

1WTC is crushed by its massive neighbours..

at the time of the Twin towers, there were less towers in south manhattan, so the two towers looked more dominant

Since 9/11 There have been NO new towers downtown. One Wtc Looks just as dominent as The Twin Towers were. There Has only been a few new towers like 8 Spruce St. ( Aka, Bleekman Tower), and Four Wtc. Nothing Blocks this Tower, its the tallest in the City!!

"1WTC is crushed by its massive neighbors..at the time of the Twin towers, there were less towers in south Manhattan, so the two towers looked more dominant"

I completely agree that the Twins looked much more dominant (since there were virtually no larger buildings in the area during their initial years). I live in the area and there is no doubt that 1WTC looks large, but it is certainly missing that aura of massiveness that the originals had (no matter what the reasoning). I don't think that posting was "ridiculous" at all.

This talk of dominance will end instantly when 2 & 3 WTC pass 4WTC.

We're talking about a multi-block wall of supertall office buildings, here. Dubai's Marina towers and the Moscow IBC are the only developments that compare.

I think the original Twin Towers looked more massive because of their "two-ness," not necessarily their height or thickness. If the new 1WTC had an identical twin positioned at its side, much of that sense of massiveness would return. I think though, that when towers 2-5 are finished, we'll have a more curtain/wall-like massiveness cupping the memorial & museum, with the WFC elegantly fencing it in from the outside world.

I agree. I even tried Photoshopping a duplicate tower next to the current 1WTC from recent pics but the tapered tops don't help with the aura. Off topic, but I hate that all renderings (past and current) of a completed 1WTC show the building mostly in a white hue, when in reality the glass of the building gives a much more "blue" impression.

When you look at pics, I kinda agree. If you spaced out the buildings, NY would obviously have a much bigger looking skyline, similar to HK

This, I completely disagree with. 1WTC dominates the skyline in pictures.

You're assuming 2 and 3 get built. 2 has been put on the shelves, with no plans to move further. WTC3 is struggling to find tennants, and may very well suffer the same fate as WTC2.

Shanghai's super 3 will dominate everything, present and future for a while. The architecture of those three are incomparable at the moment

I believe your wrong. Again, as it's been stated many times before, you can't add extra floors because the building tapers and is built to hold the number of floor it contains.
Secondly, these will be the last columns added because they reach the parapet.
