everyone is asking why i said "360 meters"..

this is just that since december, the height is "locked" to 350 meters, so i was just wondering when it would pass the next step !

and for the empire state building, it has been already passed, because it is 330 meters high , without the "cheating" antenna and iron mast

Noo that's wrong...the empire state building is 1,454 with the antennae and without it, the building is 1,250 feet. One WTC is currently 1,140 feet which means it has a little over 100 feet to go to surpass it;)

People fighting over the height of One World Trade Center doesn't really understand why the height was picked in the first place. One World Trade Center roof's height reaches 1,362 feet and if you include the upper sections it would be 1,368 feet. The reason why it is that high is there were two buildings that used to exist at the World Trade Center that doesn't exist anymore that used to be just as tall from ground to roof. The height of the One World Trade Center makes the building sacred because of the relations it has with the old World Trade Center, and the mast reaches a symbolic 1,776 feet to show American independence. This was what they were trying to target. By attacking the old World Trade Center they were attacking our liberty and our freedom. This height is symbolic to we shall keep our freedom and not be altered by what you did. This is what the new One World Trade Center means.

1 WTC: The View From the 80th Floor

January 19, 2012
By Alina Simone

If you live in New York City, across the Hudson in New Jersey, or possibly on the moon, you have probably noticed 1 World Trade Center edging steadily into the skyline of Lower Manhattan, layer by klieg-lit layer. By the middle of this year, the 105-story, steel frame of what promises to be the tallest building in the country (and the tallest office building in the world) will be complete. Currently, 1 WTC stands at 91 stories. Recently, I was invited up to the highest accessible floor, the 80th.

I am accompanied by one of the building’s architects and a project manager, as well as a handful of curiosity-seekers. We take a construction hoist to the 79th floor, to the Q-tip top of the building, where there are no exterior walls or windows, just a blanket of safety netting and metal wire. With my hard hat and a florescent vest pulled over the black puffy jacket I wore that day, I closely resemble a Goodyear tire that’s had a sad run-in with a line of police tape. We are 1000 feet up. When I look inward, toward the heart of the building, all I can see is a clockwork of re-bar. But the exterior, free of walls, reveals the city sprawling cinematically below in a 360-degree panorama. Where the concrete floor ends, the sky simply begins.

10 years ago, something was taken from the skyline.10 years later, we are finally filling up the void. By the time this year is over, the WTC will start to be more than just a site again. It will be a part of the city again.

The ironworkers temporarily moved from 1WTC to Tower 4 & the Hub had to retrieve their belongings from the shipping containers that were lowered down on Thursday...word is, they will all be back on top of 1WTC in 2 weeks and may be going overtime...as long as the winds & weather co-operate. Now that the shipping containers are out of the way, they have framing to do before they can move on.

Marble will clad the exterior core walls, including the ones at the elevator lobbies. The blast walls will be covered with (I beleive) drywall.

today i had the idea to post a picture of the being-constructed freedom tower, on a forum of a french website where i often go (mainly because i'm french!)

the website is not about skyscrapers, it's just a 'bla-bla' forum..

as i noticed in the reaction of the members, most of them were discovering the new design of the wtc because nobody talks about it in the medias..
moreover, a majority deplored that the new freedom tower was not taller than the original twin towers... they think it would have been better if 1WTC was taller than 417m... Finally, they thought than a 80m-high antenna was too big for a tower, generaly an antenna must'nt be more than 1/10th of the tower..

In spite of all this, a large majority appreaciated the glass facade of the tower, certainly better than the grey columns on the original twin towers...

that was for the little story :)

I have loved following this thread finally decided to register. I visited New York in early January and was so impressed with how completely 1 WTC dominates the skyline. I was staying near Kennedy airport and from the air train 1 WTC stands out like a beacon. Amazing!

I love the comparison pictures as well, so many great large buildings going up in NYC lately. I had always been fascinated with the skyscraper races of the 1920's and its great to see similar enthusiasm and criticism in the present day. I definitely enjoy seeing the building passing the others in town, it will be a pretty emotional moment when it passes the Empire State to crown 1 WTC the tallest building in the city again.

A big thanks to those of you who have taken the time to upload pictures you have taken, and its great to get almost hourly reports on progress or in some cases lack thereof.

It takes approx one week to add the steel for a floor. Current top out is scheduled for sometime in April. Assuming they are still going to complete in April there is more than enough time to do so. There are 16 weeks until the end of april, and 14 floors.

That means, that as long as steel starts going on again anytime in the next 2 weeks that they are still on schedule. SOOOOO.........you guys start wringing your wrist and pacing back and forth in about 2 weeks. Currently it's still going according to plan.

:) Plus construction will increase in speed now that the days are getting longer and warmer.

What is your source to all this information? There are no more typical office floors anymore, only mechanical floors remain. Each mechanical floor will not take a week to do. It's almost February and they need to pack on an additional 200 plus feet before top out so April does not seem likely at this point no matter who your source is.

*The following information was last updated on January 20, 2012.

Tower steel is now above floor 91. It is expected to top out by appx. April of 2012.
Facade installation is now above floor 66
Concrete is now being installed above floor 85
Installation of the 400-foot-tall antenna in spring 2012.
Spray-on fireproofing underway
Elevator shaft fit-out
Multiple cranes on site for steel and concrete installation
Both the south and north cores are now being erected as the structure rises
"Cocoon" safety system now in place around upper perimeter, to rise with structure
Utility installation and tie-ins
Crews are coordinating substructure construction while maintaining PATH service

Not that they havn't had some latency problems with this information, but it's been fairly accurate about projections for the past 5 or 6 months

He is right though, some of the remaining floors are non standard, but the mechanical floors are double flloors, (correct me if i'm wrong at any point) so they can be allotted two weeks of time. One week to assemble the steel, one week we to drop in equipment (actually more than one week, from construction pictures at the top, it looks like they finish the decking for a floor 2 to 3 weeks after they do the steel.) And there is nothing that says they have to do all the decking for each floor if they are trying to lower (instead of drift) mechanical floor equipement in.

http://www.panynj.gov/wtcprogress/pdf/January-2012-wtcprogress-Newsletter.pdf
The newsletter doesn't mention a top out date which odd since investors probably read it (maybe they get a different mailing). but it does have a pretty detail that shows the rented regions of the building

I did send off an email or two to some of the communications officers. Even if they give us BS, at least we will have the official statement of the construction stall. Let's just hope it's part of the plan.

NOW, who knows what goes on a mechanical floor since I read that each floor will have it's own climate control system. So it's not like they will need a complex heating and cooling system up there, maybe it's elevators, water pumps, and bears, then that might explain the hold up.

Technically, even though it's still cold outside, YES the days are getting warmER on average and longer every day (many studies have shown that productivity has a positive relationship to temperate well lit conditions and sunlight exposure. But last I checked, March is before April so when I said that, I was being inclusive of all the time between now and top out. To be precise.

I really feel only the construction workers have the best idea when things will get done because they are building it so they will estimate based on weather, delays, etc. The Tower will be done when it's done that's all I can say. Going by an estimated date from that website is just not reliable enough for me. I think the top out date could be around May or June hopefully.

from http://www.lowermanhattan.info/construction/project_updates/freedom_tower_26204.aspx

Btw this can't be accurate...there's no way the facade is just above floor 66. it's at least approaching a little over 70 no?
