When the glass is topped off at the steel frame of the tower, I am sure that they will another few feet of glass above that. Because I have been looking at the new WTC model they have on display in WTC 7 and you can see the fin that tower 4 has at the very top of it, can someone confirm this?.

Yes, that's right. Glass will rise above the current steel, so the tower will grow a bit.

No, the steel is complete, no other steel :)

He meant the glass not the steel. ;)

I thought so, thanks for answering my question hunser. Tower 3 will also have a glass parapet above its topped off steel as you can see by its design.

72nd floor at Tower-4!! Some serious steel re-inforcing bars going into these walls before the concrete is poured. Note... the bars don't just overlap, they are joined together at the ends using 20 inch steel couplings with several large set-screws. "Built to last"!!

50 West will soon rise, hopefully, right there where that empty lot is which exposes that awful blank wall. So 50 West will rise next door to that building and block that blank wall.

At first I thought this was a very bland design but when I saw it in person, I can't say how much I was in awe of how well it turned out. I encourage anyone to go look at this building on the side facing the WFC, it just looks amazing. It blends into the sky and it doesn't look as fat as one would expect.

Worker Injured in Fall From Ladder At World Trade Center Site

FINANCIAL DISTRICT — A construction worker may have broken his leg when he fell 10 feet from a ladder at 4 World Trade Center, an FDNY spokesman said.
Just after 9 a.m., emergency medical crews responded to Liberty St. and Trinity Pl., at the southeast side of the center, fire officials said.
Witnesses said the man was awake and talking.
The worker was transported to New York Downtown Hospital, officials said.
This is the latest in a slew of construction accidents over the past year that have plagued the World Trade Center site, including another injured worker, a fire and a crane which swung free and shattered some windows.

What a coincidence; the base podium of the new 4WTC closely resembles the old 4WTC.

There are several other weird but similar comparisons to the original World Trade Center from Four World Trade Center.

*The architect is Japanese (Maki). Similar to Minoru Yamasaki.
*The building is criticized for being simple similar to the Twin Towers.
*The engineer firm for this building is Leslie E. Robertson Associates. These were the same engineers for the Twin Towers of the original World Trade Center.
*Four World Trade Center (New) stands on the same site as Four World Trade Center (Old).

:haha:

I have a feeling that a wealthy developer will come along, buy out those buildings and replace them with some new towers.

Unless you are a wealthy developer planning on funding such an effort, all you can do is enjoy the view. ;)

Setting Liberty free (http://www.downtownexpress.com/setting-liberty-free/)

"BY JOSH ROGERS | The liberation of Liberty St. is within sight — a move that will also make visible the scaffolding-blocked stores across from the World Trade Center.

The construction shed went up over a year and a half ago to protect residents, workers and tourists from falling debris from the construction of 4 W.T.C.

“Weather permitting, we hope to enclose the south side of 4 World Trade Center around the end of February,” said Dara McQuillan. spokesperson for Silverstein Properties Inc., developers of the building. Once enclosed, the scaffolding can be removed.

Although some thought of it as a necessary evil to protect people, proponents and opponents agreed it had more than its share of negative consequences.

“When Occupy Wall Street was around, it was a place for people to hide,” said Pat Moore, a Community Board 1 member who lives on the block.

She said the block’s blight also attracted garbage and held cigarette smoke. It was even worse for people living at 114 Liberty St., Moore added, because their entrance is consumed by the protection.

The scaffolding went up soon after a boy was hit and slightly injured from a piece of debris in 2011. Silverstein agreed to the shed soon after at the community board’s request.

“Even though it was terrible, it certainly would have been much worse if someone got seriously hurt,” Moore said.

When told the scaffolding was likely to come down next month, she had a simple reaction: “Fantastic.”

Small business people on the block couldn’t agree more.

“It’s a disaster for business. “ said John Costalas, manager of Essex World Café. “It killed us. Even my relatives can’t find the store,” he added, echoing a problem cited by some of the half dozen businesses on the block.

Does he think business will pick up once the ehd is down?

“Plentytime!” "

I'm not even sure which buildings you're referring to, but I don't see anything horribly offensive there at all. The city doesn't need to be completely homogenized into a collection of glass boxes, it's okay to have a little diversity.

I agree diversity is good, but some buildings like those would not be missed and are eyesores just like many other similar towers.

The ones I'm referring to are 'glass boxes' (I hate that term so much, you have no idea) and a modern facade would do them good. No demolition, just a reclad would be fine. Even 22 Cortland looks in need of a new skin and a replacement of the blank concrete wall. Might as well do it due to all the massive revitalization projects in NYC recently... 1 Liberty Plaza made the right decision to start repainting.

Oh is that what they are doing? 1 Liberty is such a turd of a building. Maybe its just because I can't help but think about the Singer Building...sigh.

I think this building is beautiful. It's different from every side, and the glass is amazing. Any other city would cream in their pants for this.

weird how small these buildings look in pictures. I try to imagine this building in the same light as the ones in Houston like the Wells Fargo, or the Key Tower Cleveland (all similar height), and it feels like they look much taller than 4WTC.

i'm sure it looks plenty tall in person though..

It's because WTC1 is distorting your prospective...977 ft doesn't look big next to a 1,400ft tower!

It does look plenty tall in person. When I was in NYC back in May I remember looking up at 4 WTC from the Memorial and thinking that it looked so tall...and that's even with it being the short WTC tower!

Those other towers are a lot more slender than 4 is, less bulky, and are the tallest in their cities. That's probably why they seem taller. In person I'm sure 4 looks humongous, because it is a beast of a tower.
