I'm surprised they haven't jumped the tower crane yet; the new perimeter columns are right up to its level. Obviously they will need to do this very soon!

It is! All the new towers lobbies will be public considering they have access to all retail and transportation connections:)

I believe the lobby portions of the towers are for tenants(since the retail is on the Church Street side of the towers and not the Greenwich Street side). Still shouldn't be too much of a hassle to stand inside the lobby however, since it is done at 7WTC.

Looking at all the diagrams and pics, it looks like 4WTC and 1WTC will be topped off at the same time, if they continue the construction at the current pace. I don't know if they are purposely trying to do that or not, but it would be great if they did. It would be so nostalgic; seeing 2 towers rise again at Ground Zero.

Anyways, I uploaded a new WTC animation,

It makes you wish that instead of 1WTC or 2WTC, we had a 4WTC with the heights of those towers. The setback section could really soar.

Repeats of 4WTC would be bland, as it already is (it's quite nice filler and intended as a stepping-stone anyways--although 1 WTC hardly steels the show given its own design...). The cladding is quite amazing, though.

No, that IS a seaplane or more specifically a floatplane, as it is on pontoons. A hydroplane is a type of racing boat, rather than an aircraft. (Sometimes they unintentionally do become airborne, usually with disastrous results).

One crane alone can't erect a tower. Since the crane accident a few weeks ago the tower's top-out date has fallen behind schedule. Its also a lot simpler to disassemble the jumping crane in the core, and other concrete work.

As long as the swing radius is within bounds, one crane can erect a tower. I have seen this on many occassions.

Damn man, that really captures the sheer scale of this building. It often gets overlooked because of its larger siblings, but if you put 4WTC here in Tampa, it would be nearly twice as tall as our tallest building.

EDIT: Also, is that the beginnings of the vehicle security center or Five World Trade Center?

The entire site where they are building the VSC Phase 2 was the footprint of the Deutsche Bank Building, and the surrounding plaza. The retaining wall is for the Vehicle Security Center, while the remainder beyond that remains to be a pit and the entrance to the memorial.

Well, they sure didn't waste any time putting that new crane into action!

For that, and a lot of other reasons I continue to say that T4 will top out before T1. Unless I missed an earlier post, I think I was the first forum member to make that prediction (here in this thread) and it looks like that point of view is becoming more popular.

I don't see what can stop it now, T4 only has what, two jumps left? And the T1 upper levels are vastly more complicated, and bigger to boot.

I'm loving seeing the two 4 WTC cranes "dancing" in sync again :) It looked so sad with just one crane for a while there!

Very excited to see it again in person... 4 WTC has doubled in height since I last visited!

Hard to believe there's still quite some more to go considering how already massive this one is.

^^ Yep, just shy of 900'. :) Who knows, after that fugly spire the 1WTC is going to have, people will appreciate 4WTC more, if not already. :frog:

:previous: It's close, but a floor or two should be integrated into the building easily to match One 57 or succeed it.

They really should just add the few extra feet and make this a supertall,
it's close enough and being how gorgeous this building is it deserves it!:)

I keep thinking to myself - the crane operator working in the west-side crane (the newly replaced crane) is hella brave to work in it, given how far up from the building it is. It's a good 15 or so stories in the air! :slob:

ESB's spire looking like it's 100 feet behind Chase Plaza. (BOA's poking out behind Woolworth too)

How much left to go on 4WTC? Just by eyeballing it I'm guessing 80-90 feet...?

I just glanced at the Earthcam for 4 WTC, and it looks like there's just 3 more floors left until they hit the top of the westernmost part. Then we get to see how the easternmost side will look with glass on it... Theeeeen the Carlos Cam will finally be able to see 4 WTC with glass on it :D

Man, I can't believe how crazy close 4 WTC is to being done!! I'll be in NYC in 3 1/2 weeks... they're going to get pretty far in cladding at the rate they've been going for the last month. :)

Is it true that they added an additional 50 feet to this building recently? It's amazing -- the construction of 4WTC has been overlooked due to 1WTC, but this is such a beautiful structure.
