Its a payment schedule what buyers have to pay there installments by " so if the "compleation" is sept 09 thats what it is !

We have learned that despite emaars and the builders saying the burj will be completed for dec 08

this is not going to be the case

when does the structure ,meaning tier 27 = 768m top out ?? it doesnt seem to be on there. and is 16 AUG the completion date ??

They're called Al Kazim Towers and yes they look bad, they only look good far away where you can't see the cheapness in the details.

Hi all.

They won't be finished building up for many, many months.

Here is some wind protection info. Looks like their going to have some curved glass walls under sort of louvered roof panels. I also heard somewhere they will have self locking doors to the terraces for when the wind is too strong.

OHO! I see Steel Anchors in the last set of pictures! The skyline of Dubai is finally getting to the point where it is somewhat balanced, especially whence the Index is finished.

Also, I hate the fact that NY and Dubai have their own sections since now I don't check these threads as often!:(

Great set of videos, on what appears to be a very interesting guy.

His speech in the last part near the end was particularly informative and insightful. He does seem very forthright, and even challenging to his King.

Despite the various problems in the UAE (not least the labour issues), it does seem like its on the right heading to be a leading city for the 21'st century.

If you count the cranes in their fully vertical position do you think it is now taller than the 2,063feet of the KVLY-TV Tower in North Dakota or the 2,121 feet of the late Warsaw Radio Tower?

I mean how high are the cranes above the highest construction when they are fully vertical?

No, no, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I'm just pointing out that the height of this building does not do justice to the skyline in the sense that it is too tall, making 50 floor skyscrapers look like 2 floor brick walk-ups. And no, I did mean to say ridiculous because (to me) it is ridiculous. Not the building itself, but it's impact on the rest of the skyline.

Is it though an engineering marvel? Of course. Does it do justice to the skyline? That's all perogative. I feel the skyline (without the Burj) is still too pre-mature to have a building of this height stand in the middle of it.

Jealous? No, not jealous. Why should I be? I said eveything I needed to and no more needs to be said. I fail to see how being jealous stems from any of that. I am happy for Dubai and highly admire what they are doing. No jealousy comes from that.

It sure does stick out like a sore thumb, but that doesn't mean such a look is not contextual. To me, it has the general aesthetics of a Muslim minaret in the desert, stretched out towards the sky. The same massing of the skyline would have looked more out of place in, say, the US, the country that pioneered the concept of a dense, high-rise commercial core and thus a place where one generally associates height with expensive land and moneraty efficiency (unlike the traditional religious symbolism of height in Islamic countries), and may expect the tallest buildings to be in the densest highrise districts.
