The cladding on the Burj looks like it is being done in very small sections (individual panes). Why wouldn't they use larger pre-fabbed sections to maximize efficiency?

wait how is it the tallest skyscraper but not building? and just out of curiousity what is the tallest in all those categories? esp. the manmade part.All skyscrapers are buildings, but all buildings are not skyscrapers. The CN Tower has walls and roof so it's a building, but it's not a skyscraper. All the rest that is still taller than Burj Dubai is included in the link.

If you have some patience Burj Dubai is anyway going to pass everything on that list, and by a large margin. :banana:

EDIT: The last one to top all categories was Empire State Building. It was beaten by a radio mast i 1954 and since the guyed radio masts have been the tallest structures.

Everyone involved in this mighty construction are living gods in my view, especially all those workers in the blue coveralls. They are making a building which will be renowned across the world for many years I hope.

Anyone into the movie "The Towering Inferno", ( one of the things that got me into skyscrapers ) here (http://ryan.tliquest.net/) is the best collection of pics and info I have found on the net. The tower in the movie was 138 levels just like the Burj is now. Many excelent pics of Chicago, Sears Tower, and the Chicago Spire as well. Just have to look around the folders. Thanx Ryan.

After gravity feeding the unused concrete back into the mixer, a 6 inch adapter, armed with a wet spongeball is air pressure fed from the top of the tower. Final cleaning is done by a "plug, spongeball, water, spongeball, plug" sandwich, and in total takes less than 20 minutes!
C80A concrete used from ground to L26 ~ C80 concrete from L26 up to L126 ~ C60 concrete from L126 - L154 ~ C50 concrete used for every other floor and all ceilings and floorplates.
Piping at full pumping height will have a working weight of over 50 tonnes, which is secured to the structure of the tower by massive wallplates!
The Putzmeister pumps will still directly pump 30 cubic meters of concrete per hour at a height of 570m
From my Besix design citation of 192 x 50m x 1.5m skin friction piles being poured ~ 9 x 61m x 0.9m retrofit stabilizer piles being poured at a 30 deg angle ~ 642 x 0.9m x 36m platform piles being poured, this article seems to closely match the numbers stated by Prof Bauduin in December last year! ;)Oh, and my ozzy friend appeared on the Megabuilders program.....(he's very good with numbers!) :shuffle:

While I agree that Vanhenrik can get a little overwhelming with some of his reposting large masses of images that were posted a page back, he has been a good forumer. His enthusiasm for this project is fantastic and just wants to contribute something. I think it is nice that he takes the time to research (if he is in fact doing the research) and post his findings. Do we know for sure that Vanhenrik has not gotten permission from the source (just playing devil's advocate here). I do agree however that out of common courtesy, when reposting someone else's research, or images, or diagrams, one should give credit where credit is due. Definitelly some very bad accident must have happened and the highway is closed.

That picture was taken very early in the morning (judging by the shadows) and traffic at that time might be busy on the other direction only.

No 'public transport' of any kind, from what I've read.

The new metro should be really good, hopefully they'll have the sense to make sure it covers ALL the main tourist areas and link to the main airports, maybe even a rail line to Abu Dhabi to Dubai ?

585.70 meters ... if plans not changed.
