Hey, no Windsor! What are we chopped liver? We're bigger than some of these cities you posted! Places like Corner Brook and Dundas we're 9 or 10x bigger and yet we're not on the list.
Weird. It goes to show you how often and easily we're overlooked down here in the banana region of Canada.
Sorry about that! I do have a great shot of Windsor. I'll edit that in right away!

Well it's not a real city in the traditional sense. It's several towns growing into one another. It's in the process of developing central hubs where highrises will be built like Burnaby and Mississauga.
Some photos of Thunder Bay's "skyline".

It's been a while since Regina's made an appearance, so here a few pictures of a small portion of Regina's skyline where a new tower is currently being constructed. Photos were taken by the forumers that originally posted them.
I'm going to have to go out sometime soon and get a good collection of pictures that includes more of the core.
View of the tower rising from the NE gateway to downtown, taken last Friday:

I would guess not more than 2.5 years to construct it, and only about a year to top out once it has started rising. Buildings go up surprisingly quick.

For those that don't know... it will be approx 20 floors/81m or so.
I would guess not more than 2.5 years to construct it, and only about a year to top out once it has started rising. Buildings go up surprisingly quick.
They started ripping down the old building that was there in Sept of last year and finished digging/started building the underground parkade levels at the end of January of this year.
Our courthouse started construction 6 months ago (that is, 7 months ago, the site was a vacant lot) and this is what it looks like now:
http://i.imgur.com/L7w1a.jpg
By this time next year, according to schedule, it will be enclosed.

It is timely because the owner of Fenwick tower (the big concrete one) just announced that they are going to begin building an addition in January. A 34-storey extension will go up next to the existing tower, the walls will be reclad in glass, and the ground floor will be improved with a better lobby, some commercial space, and townhouses.

Nice Sherbrooke shot..........I've heard Sherbrooke is a lovely city.
As for Thunder Bay I'm curious. when someone say's they are going "downtown in T-Bay which "downtown" are they ussually refering to? Is there one city that has become the effective core of the city or are they basically the same size with similar amounts of commercial/governmental/ entertainment amenities?

It refers to the core of the end of town they're from. I live in the south end, so "downtown" for me is downtown Fort William, and I refer to downtown Port Arthur as either "the North Core", "Port Arthur" or "Uptown". People in Port Arthur are referring to downtown Port Arthur when they say "Downtown", and downtown Fort William is referred to as "South Core" or "Fort William".
I've been trying to get people to refer to the south core as "Downtown", the north core as "Uptown" and Intercity as "Midtown" but it isn't really catching on yet.

Landmark VI would fit in nicely in the waterfront skyline. Hopefully Lucaya, Monaco and 24 eventually get built. That will really define the waterfront as the primary skyline of the city.

Love Kelowna, and love the beach culture of the Okanagan. Can't wait for next summer! (Though Penticton is my favorite, hehe. More Liberal and less Conservatives. I have actually noticed that the Okanagan becomes steadily more conservative the farther north you go, with Osoyoos and Oliver being the most Liberal, followed by Penticton. Then Kelowna leans Conservative, but Vernon seems to be the furthest right, becoming an all out cowboy Conservative land)

NEVER, Port Arthur will always be the Downtown for me...
NEVER, Port Arthur will always be the Downtown for me...
But it is up in relation to the other core. Besides, uptown sounds more swanky, and I was there last night, Sunday night, and south Cumberland was lined with decent looking cars (new models, and even a Cadillac!) and lots of people were walking around the area without begging for change or smokes.
Certainly, you can't refer to that as "downtown".

You should definitely plan a day trip to Halifax :)
Downtown Halifax (including Dartmouth's side of the harbour) is going through some exciting changes as of late. The shipbuilding contract will push even more proposals into development. Some of Halifax's larger towers are getting renovated as well.
Visit soon, if you want to see the downtown in its older state. In as little as a few years, the area will look very different.

A good day for shoppers (L-P Dec. 27, 2011) (http://www.leaderpost.com/life/good+shoppers/5912875/story.html)
Retail in Regina in general seems to be pretty busy. Street life downtown still tends to be busy during the day, understandably quieter at night, but esp. during winter time, the Cornwall Centre shopping mall is easily more busy! Nightlife downtown will be concentrated in certain spots, esp. by the bar/pub O'Hanlon's (Victoria Ave. and Scarth St.), further north at the Globe Theatre (Scarth St. and 11th Ave.) and Casino Regina on Saskatchewan Dr., and even more north by the club/bar strip along Dewdney Ave., tending to be more busy closer to the end of the week/weekends!
As for shops/restaurants, there's a variety of retail and services (other than the mall) of hair, spas, fashions, books, travel, health/legal professional, Gov. Canada services, etc., and a healthy mix of ethnic (Chinese, Japanese/sushi, Korean Vietnamese, Ethiopian) and contemporary and fine dining restaurants and coffee shops (no Starbucks downtown though! -- We're probably the only one-(true) Starbucks city around!). I think it would make a nice addition if we could get a Cactus Club or Milestones or other contemporary name restaurant somewhere downtown. There's also a plethora of hotels -- along with their restaurants/boutiques -- with a new one (Capital Pointe Condos/Hilton Hotel) intended to be built and running before the Grey Cup arrives for 2013!
Our newly (almost) completed City Square Plaza (located on the north side of Victoria Park, downtown) should help re-invigorate summertime, weekend events, like the already popular Regina Folk Fest and Farmers' Market, and create interest for other special events to take place there!

The biggest thing that stands out for me is the shape of the roads. They all look like they are in pristine condition. How diverse is the weather there?

Fredericton looks very nice and pristine. The University looks really nice too. I like when universities stick with one type of design asthetic and carry it through to newer buildings.
Here are a couple new ones of Regina with the current office tower under construction. A bit of a canyon effect forming. There are also rumours of a tower going up between the one being constructed now and the FCC tower on the right.
From the Regina Construction Thread:
Here is Regina's "Wall Street," as it appeared last Monday at dusk:

A lot of the Maritimes look like that. It's a more genteel part of the country.

Fredericton now there's a city I don't hear about often, thanks for sharing the pic! It looks quaint and peaceful.
It is completely sprawled, leaving the downtown stagnant and uninspiring.
This picture will likely hold accurate for decades to come.

This view is incredible. It's amazing that Regina (a city of only 220 000!) can have such density.
Also, that building on the right looks kind of like a mini EAP.

Compared to cities like Kingston and Victoria, I'm not sure that's entirely true.

Kingston is NOT metropolitan at all. And the Victoria CMA is over 100 000 people larger than the Regina CMA so it's not much of a fair comparison. Plus it's a coastal tourist city.

That's what I was thinking about Kingston as well. Victoria? Sure, I can see that, but it is much bigger.

To me, despite having no skyline, Kingston feels like a larger, more established city than Regina.
And yeah, perhaps comparisons with Victoria aren't totally fair (although in my defence it is only 50% larger).

Kingston is a nice town. It's one of those places that used to be much more important than it is now, so it has a disproportionately large stock of impressive heritage buildings. Kingston City Hall for example was actually built to house the legislature for Ontario and Quebec at the time (the amalgamated Province of Canada in the 1840s).
The older cities also inherit a lot of subtle characteristics like narrower streets, shorter blocks, and fine-grained public space that make them a lot more pedestrian-friendly. That is a big advantage that is often overlooked.
Regina looks a lot like Ottawa in those pics.
Poor Ottawa. :haha:
