Wow!! Daffodils and everything!! Is that cold winter you all had really over? Or is there a risk that it'll come roaring back? Hope not.

I would certainly like to think it's over, that's for sure.

Here's something I saw recently on Hamilton Street at the CBC building downtown. The gardener's doing some maintenance on the grass roof on the coffee shop. :D

Yeah, the cold weather has been tough on plants.
I noticed that the groundcovers along Smithe at Yaletown Park (condos) looks flattened and droopy post-freezing.

I took a little detour off of Commercial Drive to see if I could quickly get a few pics of some flowers. I thought maybe I would just do about ten minutes and then get back downtown. Well, about an hour later...

The pink magnolias in the first couple of pics are HUUUGE! About the size of dinner plates.

There are some places that just stop you in your tracks right now with the floral displays. Here are some pics I took along Cambie Street at Oakridge Shopping Centre. The cherry blossoms are just getting past their peak while the azaleas are in full bloom.

Last night we were invited to attend the Reveal Gala on Rogers Arena. This charity fundraiser was organized by Canucks Autism Network and they had transformed the hockey arena into a virtual Venice for the evening. :)

We were seated in a VIP table right next to stage. There was a lot of swag to take home.

The evening was hoted by the five-time Olympic medalist Hayley Wickenheiser and the ET Canada host Rick Campanelli. Former Canucks goalie Kirk McLean on stage with the two.

One of the evening highlights was the performance of blind autistic Youtube sensation Christopher Duffley together with The Tenors. Their take on the Italian opera classics was breathtaking and garnered standing ovations.

It was quite a night with lots of local celebrities, wealthy businessmen and other socialites. The Aquilini family (owners of the Aquilini Group, Vancouver Canucks and Rogers Arena) were also present.

The evening ended in a high-stakes auction of luxury items and trips that all went for high five-figure sums. As we were told, the fundraiser met their target which was nice to hear. It was certainly an unique night that we were happy to be part of. :yes:

We had some first-time visitors over in August and of course a bicycle ride around Vancouver's world-famous Seawall was on our list of things to do. :)

Like so often, we started our ride in Coal Harbour which has a fantastic modern bike trail along the waterfront.

After reaching Stanley Park, the view quickly changes and you start to see the Downtown skyline where you just came from.

Next up is the Lions Gate Bridge. I just love how the mood and vistas steadily change from inlet to skyscrapers, followed by mountains and finally open ocean. There is never a boring moment along the Seawall! :yes:

Third Beach at the tip of the Stanley Park peninsula was still fairly empty in the morning, but rest assured, it will be packed in the afternoon... :rolleyes:

English Bay area was mostly sealed off due to the annual Celebration of Lights fireworks show that takes place in beginning of August. You can see the raft they use for firing off the fireworks off the shore.

We were a bit short on time, so we didn't continue all the way to Spanish Banks and made Kitsilano Beach our last turning point. In Kits things had already got much busier with people enjoying a lazy summer day on the beach.

That's a very brief capture of some of the numerous highlights along this amazing 26-kilometer bike ride. I will at some point do a full photo tour of the entire route, but I hope this gives you a taste of how gorgeous Vancouver's famous Seawall is.

I have done this ride dozens of times and it never ceases to amaze and inspire me. It is truly a must-do for everyone visiting Vancouver and best of all, it is free. Can't beat that combination! :yes:

A goodbye to the past, but a sign to the future.

With the Edgewater closing up, I made a point of going for a little tour. Despite being born in the Fraser Valley, I had never actually set foot in the Edgewater. When I learned that several of my friends/contacts hadn't either, I felt I should try my best to capture the casino. I did try to provide some privacy to those who were gaming, as I know some consider the issue sensitive. While I imagine there's plenty of photos of the Edgewater lurking around online, hopefully this is still an enjoyable little tour of the last days of this remnant of a time when Vancouver was just starting to crawl on the international stage.

- you can see the plaque says it was intended to be a "lasting legacy" of Expo 86.

I still maintain that this building would be a great location for a relocated Maritime Museum. Most likely we’ll be getting another James Cheng special on this site though.

nice, never seen daffodils this early and surprised to see cyclamens still alive and flowering while planted in the ground, they are houseplants in most of the country and i've only ever seen them used in planters around vancouver.

I took a long walk through the West End in Vancouver and what's really noticeable now is how thing's are greening up. I think we're getting past peak flowers and blooms now and it's time for the bushes and trees to do their thing and leaf out.

Honestly, what is there to see in Vancouver that they don't have in their European and US cities. They probably think its underwhelming. And please don't say water and mountains.

You could say this about most cities. At their most fundamental, there isn't a whole lot super special anywhere. Still interesting to check them out though and see what they look and feel like. Different strokes.

1238 Richards Street a.k.a. Metropolis had a sub-penthouse available for a decent price, so we went to check it out. All units in this building are two-floors which is fairly impractical. The interior felt very 90s and no wonder, as the building has been completed in 1999.

Went recently to see a large 34th floor apartment in The Melville which I believe is still the tallest all-residential building in the city of Vancouver.

Unit we saw had the largest patio of all the apartments, but unfortunately landlord was not willing to compromise on price and it wasn't meant to be.

I have seen many photos of the amenity floor on the 42nd floor, but never seen in with my own eyes. It really looks fantastic and people were really enjoying the patio lawn and pool. One things I found scary was how low the railing up there is. :runaway:

The annual Vancouver FlipOut Pinball Expo took place in Yaletown neighborhood last weekend and was a lot of fun! Hundreds of people attended the even to get a chance to play some of the over 100 pinball machines. :)

Yesterday Vancouver welcomed its the biggest cruise ship ever, as the 333-meters long Norwegian Bliss called port at Canada Place. The ship took to seas earlier this year and spent the summer sailing between Seattle and Alaska. It was now in Vancouver to mark the end of this year's busy cruise season with 4,000 passengers boarding the ship for a cruise down to Los Angeles, where the ship will spend its winter sailing to Mexican Riviera.

Unfortunately the weather wasn't so splendid upon the visit and I was only able to took some cell phone shots of the gigantic vessel. It was still a sight to behold! :worship:

It is but I've never seen it overcrowded. Highly recommended to visit and explore. Just take the elevator to either the 8th or 9th floor.

Bright Nights in Stanley Park is a fun annual family-friendly Christmas event in Vancouver.

One of the specialty features is a ride on the Christmas Train, which has a small fee but is worth it.

As a free event, Bright Nights is definitely worth the visit, although it is often busy and parking is hard to come by. Around 200 000 people visit the event every year and I can certainly see why, as it was a fun night out. :)
