i love cherry blossoms. Please post more. I especially remember 49th avenue in east van had dense bright blossoms...any picture of that area?

This is completely unrelated to Vancouver, however I thought everyone would get a kick out of this photo of Houston.

I can't believe that! It makes me want to throw up.

It is real, but is really not representative of the overall area. There is a cluster of tall buildings to the right, single family homes on the other side of that, and far fewer parking lots around all of that.

Hahaha ugly 60's - 80's high rises, endless parking lots, strip malls, massive average street width, and an elevated highway in the background.

Yep, that's pretty much exactly what Houston was like last time I was there.

I was just reading a Harbour Centre newsletter when I realized the photo used for the banner at the top looked awfullly familiar. Then I realized I shot the damn thing.

http://www.canuckscentral.com/myvancouver/31.jpg

I don't really care that they used it without permission - what really irked me was my stupid coworker who wouldn't believe it was the same one. Even with the same cruise ship, same smog, same clouds, same shades open at Harbour Centre, everything lining up exactly, even the sides of the image, and the fact that it was taken at the top of TD tower, where no one is allowed. The person would have to be standing right next to me, at exactly the same time, in an area even I wasn't supposed to be. I'm sure I'd notice.

zivan56
May 16, 2009, 8:06 PM
Have a link to it?

I would contact the editor and ask them to explain who sent in the image...chances are someone saw it here and claimed it as their own. Then, ask them to compensate you. If they refuse, say see you at small claims court...they will give you at least something. Chances are the person who submitted it got paid nicely, regardless if it is a small no-name newsletter.
You can also match up the JPEG EXIF data to prove it was yours with their copy. Obviously your original is of a much higher resolution, so it would be easy to prove.
Otherwise, the person will do the same thing again.

It will appear close to the same height due to the angle the picture is taken at but as Hed pointed out it will be quite a bit lower in absolute terms.

Coal Harbour/downtown is significantly more interesting architectually than the rest of Vancouver. False Creek is still super monotonous and getting uglier by the year.

Coal Harbour is very impressive. But I would much rather spend the day walking around false creek. So much more to do and see.

Plus the Erickson is really going to improve the Yale town sky line. And the Athletes Village doesn't hurt much either

Put up a bunch of pictures of my own, but they're of Xiamen, China and Taiwan. Check 'em out.

Went to Bowen island on Saturday to do some light hiking. Remembered to take the camera but of course forgot to take batteries, so I only got a few shots before it died. Anyways did the Killarney Lake Loop and then up to Mt. Gardner, easy enough for any able bodied person and worth the few hours it takes.

Thanks! So far I'm loving it. I feel I'm way outside of my comfort zone of friends, family, and familiar surroundings, but I can also appreciate not being around them! I'm used to living on the 6th floor, so it is a nice change to step outside into the yard and see deer.
The house I'm renting belonged to a 94 year old man who died in the house last summer (I can't use his bedroom which is piled with junk) and his family is deciding what to do with the property.
My friend who found me the house and who lives around the corner (and is away in Calgary), thinks the lot is worth $1 million so I guess I won't be buying it if it goes up for sale, but I do fantasize about living here full time.
I signed up as a volunteer for Bowfest on August 29, which should be fun!

Fantasmic! Shangri-la looks good but why didn't they tint the glass? It looks stupid that you can see the blinds closed in some windows, and open in others. It looks like a hurricane ripped through and smashed out a bunch of windows.
