Im confused with the anti police thing. so do these people think there should be no police or whats their problem.

They are against police telling them what to do, simply, they want to be the police telling others what to do!

That is the whole ironic thing about these protesters, is they say they are against a police state yet the goal of many of their protests were to stop those going to game events or venues, essentially, to stop the free choice of others!

In the end, the protesters became the militia forces! That is what I find so funny, but they will never see it that way...

During the Olympics I was never once harassed by police, but I was harassed by protesters.

I’m not entirely sure of the source of this photo and normally I wouldn’t just grab something off of the internet and paste it onto our blog but this image must be shared. It’s nice having the streets back but those days of madness were a lot of fun, weren’t they?

Not just one - there were 2 of them - one sponsored by Air Canada and the other sponsored by Canadian Pacific. The Air Canada one would have been at the other end of the fairgrounds.

Thanks Spike. I have both a Nikon D90 and D40. All the shots above were with the D90. Couple more shots here, the first three telephoto shots were taken with the D40.

Uber awesome. Really hope that silver building eventually gets replaced with a spectacular office tower that both compliments and contrasts with shangri-la, all while adding to the "peak" of the skyline and adding to the canyonification/sentinal look of Georgia street.

It's called The Dawson, used to be The Ford Building. Or maybe the other way around? Either way, it's referred to by both names.

Canon 5D Mk II, usually with a 24-105mm lens and Circular Polarizer (during the day and outdoors) :tup:

And I have a Canon G10 as a point and shoot for when I don't feel like putting out my back carrying the 5D Mk II all day.

Just an FYI, Yume's 5D2 is an amazing camera, but his set up will set you back $3k+. If you're looking to get into photography, the Canon T2i is a good place to start (though don't bother with the kit lens) plus a lens like Tamron's 17-50 f/2.8. That setup will probably run you $1500. I'm sure Nikon offers a great camera (D90 or something?) in the same price area, but I'm a canon guy. I'm currently having issues with my old 30D/17-55 setup, seems to produce a lot of soft images at smaller apertures. Frustrating.

:yes: The T2i is a great camera, too. You probably wouldn't notice a MAJOR difference on day time shots, depending on the lens. In low light there would be more noise.

Most of my night time shots are handheld (like the Convention Centre pictures I posted earlier), that would be semi-difficult with another camera.

Of course any good editing program can fix things, even the 5D's shortcomings.

If you are experiencing lens distortion, you could try using DxO, and downloading the appropriate lens modules to "fix" it.

Bamboo looks cool. I love bamboo~! I wonder if it is Japanese bamboo :P?

Ironically most decorative bamboo in Japan is from Hawaii, because Japanese bamboo grows too big. Many more useless facts where that came from.

i was down on east hastings turning onto carrol taking a pic of a building and some woman on the bench started yelling tame about not taking pics down there yada yada yada and she went on and on and me and my friend didn't even stop to listen or look at her - she was yelling about homeless people and you don't belong here and you can't pictures

Nice pics Sponge, I saw that Acme cafe the other day and really want to try it out.

I've been hassled a few times in the eastern part of the Downtown Eastside (where there's less homeless people out and about, strangely enough) and had a guy who looked like a bouncer (but wasn't) ask me threatening-ly what I was photographing and I just said 'buildings' and that was that. Sometimes people will just yell out at you while you're taking pics but meh, I just ignore them. On the sidewalk and streets you can photograph ANYTHING you want but sometimes ignoring these people is about all you can do to avoid a situation.

Been to Acme a couple of times now, it's good quality food, although not cheap. I almost think it's priced the way it is to keep a certain element out. That said it's between 8-12 for a soup and sandwich, the soups have both been good and their roast beef is one of the best I've had. If you go in you can see a great clock above the door on the inside.

Vancity view captured by PoMo photographer

As a professional photographer, Ronnie Miranda is accustomed to taking photos of condos for realtors or city scenes for tourism brochures.

But the Port Moody resident took his photographic skills to new heights last month when he snapped a 240-degree panorama image of the downtown Vancouver skyline.

The image is a first of its kind and was taken from British Columbia’s tallest building.

“I just wanted to do something bigger,” he told The Tri-City News. “No one has done a shot like this from way up high.”

Using a a data pan imager, Miranda stood on the 58th floor of the Shangri-La tower, located at 1128 W. Georgia St., and began snapping images. After taking thousands of images, he returned to his Port Moody home and, using computer software, was able to “stitch” the photos together.

More than 1,600 frames were used in the creation of the panorama shot, with much of the seams and overlap digitally cleaned up, he said.

“It is lined up like a grid,” he explained. “Once you line everything up, you can put it all together and clean up the images.”

The final product is a never-before seen view of the city, from Harbour Centre all the way to English Bay and Stanley Park.

^^why on earth would he not photograph the remaining 120 degrees (coal harbour, stanley park, north van, west van, lions gate bridge, coast mountains, howe sound!) He picked a pretty crappy time of day to shoot this... everything's all washed out. Could have waited till late afternoon/early evening to get better colours.
