So, I'll admit that these aren't be best quality or anything, but I took them whilst out walking the puppy along the SE False Creek seawall:

The puppy is so cute.

Thanks. He's a 4 and a half month old American Eskimo Dog/Cairn Terrorist (errr Terrier) mix. I was actually surprised how well he took to walking the SE False Creek Sea Wall. We went from Science World to Broadway and Bayswater.

I'm also impressed how well the pictures from my phone turned out too!

Google maps doesn't give the option to get directions on the seawall, but its about 8 or 9 KM. Poor high energy puppy didn't know what hit him either! :haha:

There was actually a wedding there a couple of days ago, while I was there (well, not quite on the dog beach... though :P) Another shot from yesterday, a big panorama from the VCC, looking across the Burrard Inlet.

Photo number (?) five from the top, the one of the building through the leaves, is a sleek-looking structure.

Too bad that Georgia Canyon still has "itty-bitty" buildings interspersed along it. Larger scale buildings would give it a sleeker "Manhattanish" feeling. This will come in time, I guess

I'm quite proud too...but all we had to do for much of our history was sell resources. If we can't even do that, we don't deserve to be a country.:haha: Our city has certainly come a long way since 1886, a village with just a few hundred people.

On the other hand, one city I really admire is Singapore....nothing but rainforests and a small island to work with, no resources, then utterly transformed into a cosmopolitan centre of commerce and tourism in less than half a century through hard work, sacrifice, and determination.

^ You must be the type of person who flinches when a random stranger says 'hi' to you on the street. It actually is 'normal behavior'. It used to be called being 'friendly and polite'. It's only become abnormal since the disturbing recent trend that people seem to rather talk into annoying electronic devices rather than real people.

SpongeG
Jul 11, 2010, 9:37 PM
probably i am tend to be anti-social thats just me

i just don't get the whole jock culture

and random strangers being nice to each other is met with suspicion

I love to help strangers though - i have no problems when someone asks for help and needs directions - i can even walk with them and talk a bit - but thats pretty rare

bulliver
Jul 11, 2010, 10:09 PM
Not sure it has anything to do with 'Jocks'. Just regular Canadians who are sharing a very special time and space...

Now I'm not a luddite, and I generally favour progress but I think humans as a species are massively regressing when it comes to normal social interaction. The causes of this I am sure are due in large part by 'social networking' ie: email, texting, facebook et al...I am sure there are other causes as well, perhaps a perceived 'lack of time' to be friendly and acknowledge that we are constantly sharing out time and space with others.

SpongeG
Jul 11, 2010, 10:31 PM
i think if anything social media is making people interact more so on the physical level

probably why me being an older person doesn't get it - we just didn't do it my day

i still think its phony - but hey if thats what they want and was mostly alcohol induced from my granville wanderings during the olympics and yes i did high five back if i had to

for the record i hate most social interaction, dogs and kids haha

From my experience, walking onto the streets downtown after Canada won hockey game, I couldn't help but want to high five every person I saw out of celebration. And I'm sure all the others felt the same way too. It was one of the greatest feelings in my life:cheers: Am I not the only one who wishes to relieve that moment over and over again? :haha:

Not sure it has anything to do with 'Jocks'. Just regular Canadians who are sharing a very special time and space...

Now I'm not a luddite, and I generally favour progress but I think humans as a species are massively regressing when it comes to normal social interaction. The causes of this I am sure are due in large part by 'social networking' ie: email, texting, facebook et al...I am sure there are other causes as well, perhaps a perceived 'lack of time' to be friendly and acknowledge that we are constantly sharing out time and space with others.

Don't worry theres still lots of countries where meeting people to talk is still quite popular!

In highschool its even worse, one kid is described as the crazy one simply because he'll be like " hello _______, how was your day today?

Thats why I always love making small talk from time to time, wether its in school, on the streets or on the bus.

i would have to agree. i would also argue that "social" networking has in fact made society less social. why bother speaking to anyone "live" when you have twitter, facebook and the likes. just look at how many people walk around listening to their ipod, talking on the phone or texting on the street. you generally get blank stares most of the time now.

you can also tell quite easily those people who are totally insecure and have to reach for their PDA at every street corner or as soon as they get on an elevator. makes me laugh.

one day, my generation will program the younger ones and we will control the world :haha:

would love to see them ticketed if they break the time limit. Most bylaws have a 24 hour time limit or so parking on a city street. However, it's not enforced unless residents are complaining in most places.

Note how close the license plates are in order to eachother too?

Not sure it'll work that way, more rich people would live here, rich people have spoiled kids, who then become hippies/rebels against the same society that allowed them to flourish. It's a real catch 22.

On the bright side, rich foreigners kids are much less likely to be hippies than white peoples kids. That's a shame, cause the hippie movement did a lot of good back in the late 60s, early 70s. Can you imagine how much more sexually repressed todays society would be without the hippies? And our freedom of thought? Look, the hippie culture doesn't exist anymore. Not like it did decades ago. That's why they call it the Hippie Generation... Peace and Love just doesn't have the same ring to kids these days. That's too bad. I really wish someone could explain to me what people are referring to when they talk about hippies... which I'm sure is something completely different.

how do you get such clear night shots?

some sort of combination of 100 ISO, tripod, F22?

bulliver
Oct 5, 2010, 3:39 PM
^ On a tripod, so yeah, always using as low an ISO as the camera allows, and I like to keep the aperture in the f/8-f/11 range. Using a smaller aperture will cause diffraction, which softens the image. At which aperture this occurs depends on the lens though. Use a larger aperture and you won't get the nice 'starbursts' from the points of light.

Wrote up a brief 'howto' for night shots on my blog:
