Hey Vin, why don't you put your money where your mouth is and start calling the police over this? Better yet, go protest in front of the protest and give these vandals and occupiers a piece of your mind.

I'll be there for moral support and film the entire interaction for you ;)

When the VAG moves to its new building, would the present VAG and former courthouse be sufficient?
Or would that be impractical as UBC has a campus there, and/or large enough?
(though frankly, I'd love to see a music school there).

keep on trying, I guess. A totally new Vancouver Museum. How, where, when?

It would make sense for the Vancouver museum to move into the old VAG / Court House, but I've heard that the Law Courts will reclaim the space.

... the province lowered the entrance fee from $25 to a mere $5. Nothing much to see in there now.

In the 70s and 80s, the Provincial Museum was FREE (with a donation bin). At least $5 is nominal.

Yes. What you said is so true. I hope that they get them back up and running ASAP.
Speaking of fountains at Robson Square, there is this little treasure:

But it needs scrubbing up. Also, the lower jaw of the lion is damaged. Could it be scrubbed up, repaired, and maybe lit up at night? It's a heritage treasure in neglect.

I noticed they have been on this year although the current water restrictions have most fountains off

I would surmise that the fountain in question will be a victim of reconciliation, so there's no need to maintain.

What a shame. I always thought it was such a nice heritage piece. But you're right. They will probably just let it rot - or destroy it. Politically Correct strikes again! :(

Keep the statue paid for by a pro imperialist, pro internment group? Will be interesting to read about on the sidelines if they decide to keep it or remove it.

To be fair to the IODE, they have moved on from their more dubious positions, which were pretty mainstream over 100 years ago.

The intention was that this fountain should be moved to King Edward and Cambie, but the Park Board never made the funds available to clean it and restore it, so the Province ended up parking it round the side of the building in 1983, long after the bigger, fancier fountain replaced it at the front of the Courts in 1966.

 I like it simply because it is elegant and rather pretty, not for what it represents. It simply ends a nice mellow, "classy" touch to that strip of Hornby Street. Everything is so politicized these days.:(

I personally recognize that, but I know full well that isn't what's going to be on the news and in the general discussions.

The best part was the whitewater gushing through the 2 central pillars to symbolize waves crashing on the coast.

UBC are intending to "install an approximately 1,500 square foot (139 m2) street level entry pavilion to improve access and viability of the 81,000 square foot education and event space below grade. The basic functional program of the pavilion includes an entry lobby, a front desk to accommodate two personnel, a staircase and elevator to the plaza level below. The project will consider sites within the landscape mound area at the south side of Robson Street."

The more transparent the better. The last thing that plaza needs is more clutter.

That would definitely come from Woke folks attempting to sound relevant in their world of being insignificant.
