I'll Still be working on Staunton for a long time, even into the suburbs :) I hope that will look nice, but the file might become to huge :(

Staunton getting another new Facelift
Staunton Square Is still under reconstruction, Now ((New District Name coming Soon)) which was Newport, I might still keep the old name.

The Neighborhood was known for all smaller midrise older buildings that balenced out the skyline. Now I'm turning it into a Lower Manhattan, you know, on the eastern part of the island, many huge international styled office buildings are located right next to the East River,

I'm turning the Staunton Newport Area simular to this.
http://www.soulofamerica.com/images/photosnyc/Lower_Manhat_East_River.jpg http://inetours.com/New_York/Images/Stn-Islnd/Financial_Dist_9469.jpg

ALSO, I redid the Staunton Harbor Bridge. I think I will be renaming it soon with a more Grander Name, like the Jefferson Bridge....

Why??
- The old one was too tall, it blocked the Skyline from the northwest. Its height was so tall that the cabels didnt match up with the towers.
- It Was too large, the road on the way up was way to wide, like 8 lanes, it took up too many city blocks on the way up.
- A bridge that tall was unrealalistic, especially for such a short distance.

So the bridge is smaller, but is still the same length. Due to its small size, I will be building a bridge of the same size near the bridge that compliments the current bridge. That will probably be the more modern Staunton Harbor Bridge.

ALSO, Due to the huge office buildings, I will be moveing several taller buildings that will get blocked. I'm Hopeing this will improve the Skyline.

Current Shot.

Your new bridge reminds me a bit of the (still unfinished) bridge I put in my new city, which I VERY loosely based off the Walt Whitman Bridge here in Philly:

http://www.wikinfo.org/upload/9/95/Walt_Whitman_Bridge1.gif

Almost a cross between Walt Whitman and the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.

I likey the update and the new bridge muchly. ;)

I disagree. The disproportion really ruined the old one.

Yeah that was one of the biggest reasons. Plus This is New Jersey, I needed a more 1920's styled bridge for an east coast city.

Like I said though I will put a more modern bridge near it soon, I just need to find a real bridge I can copy, uh I mean base off of ;)

Ok Here's a rundown of the updates in Staunton.

As you can see Staunton Square is really taking shape.
http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/1804/ghjvo3.jpg

The New Callahan Communications Plaza, A new Company will be leasing the building soon after Callahan Communications moves its headquarters to New York City. The building is based of the late-1980's cancelled Rockefeller Plaza West, too bad it was cancelled.

The Martello Hotel Staunton Square and the Jetstar National Headquarters. Both Hidden Behind the JCsummit Tower.
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/9902/ghjll9.jpg

The Stock Exchange has more detail now, the atrium in the middle of the two wings is now transparent.
http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/3258/ghjlb1.jpg

More new buildings near the harbor.
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/4893/ghjlw2.jpg

These have been here for a while, I just havent introduced them.

The 1980's Criminal Courts Building

Unnamed (yet) international building over Staunton Square.

Mighty Goose - I'll probably post some more buildings soon, whats the news on the Garden State Building ?

FlyersFan118 - Thanks :) The reason they look so real is because in both pictures I just pasted the Staunton Skyline over the Manhattan Skyline, since both have simular terrain.

((IF STAUNTON WAS REAL))
On September 11th 2001, United Airlines Flight 175 was seen flying low over downtown Staunton, very close to the Galviston Enterprises Tower. The 2004 9/11 Commission Reported that The Galviston Enterprises Tower was targeted, along with the US Bank Tower in Los Angeles on the same day.

yeah i was gonna say why are the twin towers in that last pic... the garden state is coming on nicely i remodelled the base structure to allow for even division on window rows which i am currently plastering all over it it is at about 35 completion modelling wise then it needs to be textured modded lotted and uploaded for use.... with your name slapped all over it, you can even write the description when it comes to it...

Remember the 21st Century Tower? Before I redid Staunton Square? After I redid Staunton Square I had no spot to put it, so it sat outiside the city for a while. Today I put it in Atlantis Square, it fits in perfectly with the neighboring buildings :)

A Few Updates:

The Redone, City Hall Park, or Staunton Plaza. The Park now has much more detail and looks more realalistic. You can see the old one's layout on the map, under the Civic Center Letters.
http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/5081/ghjgv2.jpg

The Orange Financial Center and the Staunton Life Insurance Building have been redone, but still have traces of their original design.
http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/8100/ghjgh0.jpg

Here you Go ThreeHundred, some Street Scenes, putting cars and people take too much time, so here are just scenes of the city from a persons point of view.

Nothin New Here, just a shot of the forgotten Modern Arts Museum. The Hamilton Hotel is being recladded to the center right, no one really cares that this historical building is becomeing like everyone else, the People of Staunton have enough Problems.
http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/7812/ghjll4.jpg

From the Lloyd International Staunton Tower & Residences Plaza, The Panoramic and TheRegis Hotel stand tall over Torrington. This is my favorite shot :)
http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/2323/ghjcn2.jpg

The Barrington & Lloyd Clothing National Headquarters Tower is truly an underappriciated Building. The tall sleek tower hides Behind the Lloyd International Staunton Tower & Residences Plaza. I think I might move it, but probably not, its in the perfect location, and is very visible from the south.
http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/7314/ghjpb6.jpg

Aahhh Staunton Square, I think I can fit in a few more billboards ;)
http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/4299/ghjyd3.jpg

Oh and I was bored so I made this News Scene of the WorldWide Financial Crisis (which suprisingly hasnt been mentioned for a while) At this point, the riots have destroyed Staunton Square, millions are panicing as they loose their jobs, a new Depression is beggining.

Staunton Live! On WNN (World News Network) on December 29th, 1999. You can see the JC Summit Tower is Under Construction, all the flashing billboards in Staunton Square are off, since the city has a power outage.

Patrick, your city is looking fantastic. One thing, it'd be better if you didn't make the edges so thick since they give it too much of a cartoon-like feeling. Go to window, display settings then in the box next to "profiles" change whatever the number is to 1. This'll make the lines 1 pixel thick.

I've been thinking about that for a long time. CGII's City looks so realalistic it would be awsome to see Staunton look like with photo-real textures.

Well I'm going to try something out. :)

Patrick
Oct 1, 2006, 7:58 PM
Ok I started making Photo-real Textures and so far things are turning out great. Although it will take a long time to re-texture every single building in town.

The Good News is, when I make photoshopped pictures, the sky and the buildings match, making a very realalistic picture.

The Bad News is that when the Profiles are turned on, it dosnt look right. When they are off those annoying white lines appear of the sides of the buildings. But when photoshopped, they arent so noticeable.

I saved the original Staunton, so the old Textures arent lost.

Here's a Small Preview of what is to come.

The Orange Financial Building and The Stevenson Insurance Building.

No! Your Textures are very detailed. If you look at mine, you can see a part of a building pasted over and over again. City City is very detailed right down to the small shops. Staunton focuses on taller buildings. My small buildings look completly lame :)

Here are a few more shots in progress. It is Taking Forever to re-texture every building in the city.

Civic Center Shot, Few Changes
http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/9673/ghjwv5.jpg

Jefferson Turning Out VERY Well. If you notice, the public housing towers have simular textures to the older ones, (compare to the last shot of Jefferson)

http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/4679/ghjvd9.jpg

Presenting the Carter Place (most likely will change the name soon)

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/9494/ghjyj0.jpg http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/8178/ghjhi0.jpg http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/4419/ghjwc7.jpg

The Carter Place was originally the Metopolitan Building (the plain tall tower between the City's two tallest) I redid the whole block, kept a few of the original buildings, just added details to them. The Metropolitan building was awfully plain, so I remodeled it but it still has elements of the original design.

The Carter Place is like the John Hancock Building in Chicago. It has shops, offices, condominiums, apartments, a mall, and more. The tower was originally a 1950's office building for and industrial company, which explains its indsustrial look.

The Original Metropolitan Building compared to the new. (all old pictures photoshopped)

Big Update:

Staunton 2.5
featuring
Space-O-Vision

Yup Staunton is getting a(nother) huge makeover.

Features
- The Streets will be bigger
- Skyscrapers will be larger
- More Public Space
- More Older/Smaller Buildings
- All buildings photo-textured

The original Staunton 2.0 will still be saved so it isnt lost.

Space-O-Vision actually just means larger streets, which means more realalistic urban shots.

The Process is just copying and pasting buildings to Staunton 2.5. Staunton 2.5 already has a premade layout, instead of putting buildings, then roads.

Here are some very early then and now shots.

so, is this new layout totally different, or is the basic layout of the city gonna stay the same? I the tower with the pillar in the centre of each side and a garden on top (foreget the name of it), though I don't see it in the new Staunton just yet. As for feedback, I'd love to see some higher resolution textures on some buildings, to really jazz up those street levels shots. Very nice stuff, all in all.

Thanks, I like that building too :) Of Course everyone by now knows its based (more like modeled off) the Conde Nast Building in New York City. :haha:

The Layout would be about the same, I'll move a few buildings but many will stay in place. And I think your talking about this building:

Thats the Lloyd International Hotel & Tower Staunton. The name is an obvious play on the Trump International Hotel & Tower. The Lloyd Tower is the 2nd tallest Mixed Use building in Staunton. It is the 4th tallest building Not Counting spires, in Staunton, just 7 feet higher than the nearby Washington Building.

this is truly incredible!!! umm encore!? your orchestra towers are based on san diego's symphony towers eh??

Thanks! And yeah The design (along with the cheesy name :) ) of the Orchestra Towers are based on San Diego's Symphony Towers.

Here are some urban shots, still not that good since the process is still not completed.

umm ok no replies there....:hell:

Stauntons layout is coming along. Downtown is now in the inner part of the peninsula instead on the side of it.

The northern to northeatern area around downtown will be just low rise residential buildings. It will range from small rowhomes to ritzy apartments.

looks cool. Not sure what the effect of making the tip of the peninsula lower rise than the centre (it might detract from the scale of the skyline if you create that step-down effect from the talls to the water), but I'm looking forward to checking it out.

I think see what you mean. Well I didnt put all lowrise buildings because If I did the skyline would look like a huge mountian. blah yucky :yuck: I put a few tall buildings to balance out the skyline. This creates a nice cluster.

You can see three main clusters from this angle which will be from Northern Jefferson

The Most eastern part of Downtown Staunton's peninsula is mostly completed: Staunton Point, or the Upper Northeast Side, I'm not sure which name to pick.

Here is why I had redo Staunton:

Here is a shot from the old model. (I had to remove a few buildings to get this shot) It feels rather crampt, for a huge public space.
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/7926/ghjax6.jpg

Here is a shot from the new model in approximately the same spot. Staunton Square now feels more open, and even looks wider than the real Times Square. The two streets keep on going diagonal as well, unlike the orginal.

New Phantom Avenue, as you can see, it looks more like an Avenue and there is more sunlight in the city.

Cur Sed Here is an overview shot. The layout is simular to New York City's layout except, Downton Staunton is not on an island, its on a peninsula.

I'm not sure, I was thinking of a Central Park Area to the south of downtown. That park actually turned out to look like a Central Park Themed Area. So I'm not sure if that is the Central Park Area.

Staunton Square has some new billboards, I'm not sure If I'll keep those on 1 Staunton Square, they seem to stick out too much.

Thanks but...

Staunton's sorta Over
((Well I, not really))

Staunton has gotten kinda old, and boring. Downtown has been done, and now all thats left is really just the suburbs.

I've decided to make a new City, this time on the West Coast. California to be exact. Its still to early to tell if I'm really starting over.

Staunton is NOT dead, I'll add more things every now and then.

I will make a new thread soon.

Patrick

I thought about it and I still plan to continue with Staunton, but I'll probably focus more on Oceanside. Oceanside is mostly just on an experiment for my new ideas that Staunton cant have.
