austin, that compilation looks great! i would loves to see the whole compilation city you made using me, patrick, and google's buildings (if i read correctly). a new thread would be best though as you don't want to steal patrick's!

I really cant, like Fox's Midtown Downtown thing, Staunton and Jefferson are two different files, which I will combine eventually. (Oh thats gonna be a nightmare)

I havent touched Jefferson in a few days, been to sexily busy.

Patrick
Jul 27, 2007, 2:02 AM
Oh, its still Trinity Global Investments, the name is based off of Barclays Global Investors

Technically the "Worldwide Financial Crsis" idea has been scrapped. 1999 was a good year.

The Stock Market Crash of November 2001, has also been scrapped. Since its a rather huge Worldwide event.

I've replaced it with the Real Estate Crash of 2002, Where Staunton got a sucky mayor, the flourishing Real Estate market took an unexpected downturn, resulting in many large office companies to vacate the city, leaving a crime ridden city in which Mayor Green cut most of the budget and ruined the city for personal gain.

dundundunnnn.

Ok, I'll give ya some of the good stuff.

Callahan Square
http://i10.tinypic.com/6bk7rzs.jpg

United Steel Lofts Building, originally headquarters for United Steel. As the Depression wore off, not many buildings where constructed across the Nation during the 1940's. In 1939 United Steel, the nations largest steel manufacture at the time, decided to construct a new headquarters and move from its defunct location in Jefferson.

Plans where drawn up for the 56 Floor Tower. The Tower, completly occupied by United Steel. The Tower was completed in 1943. It was the 5th Tallest building in Staunton. Today it still ranks in the top 10. By the 1980's, as the Nation's Manufacturing Industry collapsed, United Steel no longer needed the large tower and moved its headquarters to the burbs of New Ganton.

The Building was largely abandoned, at least until the 90's where it was then occupied by few small-scale companies. In 2004 plans where drawn up to completly gut out the building and turn it into lofts, which where and are in high demand in Callahan Village. The Industrial Styled building was perfect for Lofts, with its high ceilings and "Industrial Feel". Today its a rather sucessful Loft Building.

When I have the time I'm workin on Jefferson (Coming Along Great) and some various parts of Staunton.

Heres a new City Block (replacing a current one)

Can anyone actually guess where I got the insperation for the two older towers!? If you really know your architecture, it actually shouldnt be too hard.
http://i13.tinypic.com/5y7najm.jpg

I never did give this building a proper introduction: the New Jersey Post Building, located right next to Civic Center Park. Its not nearly as tall as some of the towers nearby, but its pretty tall.

This could have been the Daily Planet building in Superman, I was thinking of puting a globe on top, but it was a little tacky, :haha:
http://i13.tinypic.com/4uetx8l.jpg

Thats some sort of communications thing, not a scaled down version of the globe.

I can certainly pick out the building in the front of that first picture, it's based off the long gone City Investing Building in New York. That was pulled down along with Singer for US Steel.

http://www.lileks.com/bleats/archive/01/0901/09141.jpg

And I must say, good job recreating the massing. Shame you won't be able to find any photo textures to match it.

Peter
Jul 29, 2007, 5:27 PM
I love that New Jersey Post Building!! really bold design that stands out.

I agree with CGII from seeing that picture (even though I hadn't heard of that building before) but the one i have heard of, the Singer Building, is what i believe you based the old one with the spire off of. that would make sense since they were next to each other and both demolished for One Liberty Plaza.

CGII, you got it, Peter you also Got it.

Its a true shame that the Singer building and City Investing Building in NYC where demolished for One Libery Plaza, blah!

http://www.carluvers.com/cars/upload/6/66/SingerBuildingView.jpg

http://i13.tinypic.com/5y7najm.jpg

Its basicly a revamped version of the two towers. I always though One Libery Plaza would look good next door to the two towers, which is why that boxy building is sandwiched between the two towers.

:previous: It reminds me of 20 exchang place:koko: I like!:notacrook:

Wow, Good eye! yes, I based it off 20 Exchange Place, but I dint wanna mention it :)

cool, I knew your New Jersey Post Building reminded me of something. I think it's my new favorite of yours. :)

also can't wait to see the ones based on One Liberty Plaza, Singer Building, and the other with textures :D

since we're sort of on this topic, was that Trinity building emporis page posted earlier based on anything? perhaps One Penn Plaza? it reminds me of it for some reason.

Patrick
Jul 30, 2007, 6:18 AM
since we're sort of on this topic, was that Trinity building emporis page posted earlier based on anything? perhaps One Penn Plaza? it reminds me of it for some reason.

Actually, it was just a design of my own, I dont remember basing it off any actual building. The Only thing I based it off of was the name

Barclays Global Investors = Trinity Global Investments

Barclays Global Investors is the largest corporate money manager in the world, so in the Staunton Universe, Trinity Global Investments would rank in at number 3, so the current headquarters in Staunton is pretty big. First ranks Galcorp (Galviston Enterprises, Galoil, Galcorp Industries, Galviston Real Estate) and NexxonOil ranking in at No.2.

When I was converting Staunton, I didnt want to leave the building behind, as its been there forever, so I pasted it temporarily near the Wentworth Building (creative, yes I know :haha:) aka the Green Topped Tower on the far far right. It will probably stay there, but idk, maybe I'll move it for a more prominent spot. The Lloyd Tower was actually supposed to be in this spot.

http://i14.tinypic.com/4lj9cth.jpg

Speaking of One Penn Plaza, I did base off a tower off it, i'm sure you all remember Galcorp Arena? Remember the massive Tower over it?

If You look closely at this pic you'll see not Only One Penn Plaza (PennInsurance Bank Bldg, formerly Federal Building), but Two Penn Plaza (Convention Center), Madison Square Garden (Galcorp Arena) and the Nelson Building (Tall pre-war tower).

Ah yes, the glory Days, I can assure you all, this enitre district should be back in place by lets say, 2008? The Clubbing District aka Garnett District was really a good idea and I will bring it back to new Staunton.

http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/2032/00000001uo6.jpg

This pic is a milestone for Staunton, one of the reasons I have to bring this district bakk.

Just kidding, it actually is quite awesomesauce! Have you thought about building an airport? If so, I'd study the New York/Boston/Philly airport layouts. I'd also build more than one, as it's uneconomical to have one central gynormous airport for a city the size of Staunton (see Atlanta)

Hehe, Staunton is mainly a Democratic City (oh yeah!), so it has a gay district, probably Callahan Village, so I'll put up some gay flags YAY! ahaha :haha: Although with Mayor Green's questionable election, Staunton's current mayor is a Republican, like Bush, but worse.

An Airport is in the future, in the area far above Jefferson, so expect it by, oh a long time from now  I'm planning an LAX styled airport, I've always loved LAX. Los Angeles International Airport.

It's about damn time you did an aerial map though. :haha: I've been waiting for it. Cool shot of Jefferson too. I wish my piece of shit computer could handle making a city that large. I'd eventually love to make my city's borders a little bigger and expand it out, but it'll kill my computer (256 mb ram :(). That's part of the reason I decided to go with a Pittsburgh-styled city. It's not too too big, so I figured my computer could handle it, although it's starting to get a little too big now, go figure (that's with the whole middle of it empty and no textures).

Out of all angles, I think Staunton looks best from Jefferson, what do you think?

Patrick

Thanks!

Suburbs are in the future, but remember, it will be a while until I get out there.

Never did introduce these 3 buildings, as they where actually one of the first in New Staunton.

One NexxonOil Plaza
Completed in 1978, 513 feet high, one of the largest buildings in the city. Houston based NexxonOil, 2nd Largest company on Earth, biggest competitor, Galoil, a branch of Galviston Enterprises headquartered a few blocks away. Originally planned for a twin tower (Now Kent Enterprises occupies the spot) which was cancelled after the real estate dip of 1979. The tower suffered much damage in the riots last month.

Kent Enterprises Plaza
Completed in 1990, 641 feet high, one of the tallest and thinnest buildings in Staunton (75 feet width). Known for its gigantic "KENT" logo atop the tower. The Tower is one of the most prestegious office buildings in the city. As it is a thin building, but means having every office with a unobstructed view. The 10 Story Base dose take up most of the block, for larger offices, but is also home to many amenities like an Indoor swimming pool, indoor Ice skating rink (popular with the locals in the winter), and a rooftop garden. Kent Enterprises is a large Staunton Based multi-international company, headquartered in Staunton, Paris, Johannasburg, and Osaka.

Dean Whitney Plaza
Completed in 1991, part of "Kent Square" involving NexxonOil, Kentprises, and Dean Whitney. The Tower is very thin (75 feet width), 456 Feet high. The tower is headquarters by Dean Whitney (World HQ in NYC) since 1991. The Tower is home to a large plaza, expansive lobby, and like the Kentprises Tower, it is very luxurious in terms of Office Space.
