I noticed the similarity instantly, very good. that complex has always confused me,your either looking at a big concrte wall or at suburbs(in the smaller ones) theres no view. oh well.

OK I have a request-your water looks fake,it looks like live.local pictures.

but the buildings look good:cool:

I agree, It must suck to get a view of the wall of the Main Tower!

And really? You think so? Haha I always thought my water looked realistic! :haha: And yes it is from LiveLocal Pictures!

You can see the Heartland Plaza in place waaay on the right:

Yeah they look great. It's hella realistic. Maybe a little too realistic?

No but really it looks great. When ever I make my own textures they look like crap cause I can never get them to look like photographs. Do you mix various parts of buildings to make new textures (like mixing various facades to make a new one) or do you get them and crop them?

Wait, what did I mock?

Patrick thats a freakin amazing shot!! The low rise buildings make the city more realistic and natural...... How long does it take to load Staunton..?

Ah, not long actaully, Staunton's only 37.4 Megabytes, compared to huger cities such as Palm Dunes and City City (if I remember where in the 100+ MB area) Staunton is no racecar, it lags, but nothing painful.

Amazingly Staunton right now is the same size (file wise) as the last version of Staunton, the one that included Jefferson, but this is great! With all the detail I've added Staunton is still small file wise.

Do you mix various parts of buildings to make new textures (like mixing various facades to make a new one) or do you get them and crop them?

Nah, theres just so many buildings across the US I'll never run out of textures, until Microsoft sues me :haha:

I HOPE SO! I like sketchup alot, Architecture is great, but all that math kills me. I have no clue what I wanna do in the future, but Architect isnt one of them, maybe someone who renders buildings? I like photography, but I still am clueless into what I'm going to persue after High School

The skyline's slowly progressing West. I'll soon have to do the Jefferson Bridge offramps, which I have no clue how to make realalistic, usually I just made the bridge turn into a road, but after observing serveral city bridges, they simply dont just lead off into a road but split up into several smaller ones.

Fine that you're using textures instead of polygons, but still with all that vegetation and detail in buildings, it means that you're very efficient in every aspect of it!

You could open a business of architectural visualizations, of course outsourcing will kill you when you've got amazing renders made in the Phillipines for 8 bucks. But... you could do something better.
Do you like car race games? I only like Burn Out and play at a friend's. Well, someone made those fantastic cities I have the pleasure to crash cars in. You could make them.
Or Hollywood (sorry, broke the profanity rule again)
The movies always need realistic looking but fantastic cities for the background that replaces the blue screen. And you've got a hell of a portfolio already!
I'd suggest, since computer science might be out of the picture for the same math reason as architecture, that you learn how to handpaint, which is like rendering by hand. That way you'll learn what you need about light to pursue a career in Hollywood (sic)

About your bridge problem: try making a model of an a highway on-ramp from an aerial picture, or even from Sim City.

This deserves a second look. I love this shot Patrick. It shows the size and density of the city well. Did you happen to take out one of the bridges, because one was absent from that photo? Or is it just further up north and out of sight?

I also admire your Galcorp Center. This is the first time I'm really seeing it from above, and I love the layout.

Also, is the JFK Expressway yet to be built? If so I look forward to seeing some real infrastructure in your city, as far as highways go.

Ah, thats the Jefferson Bridge, the Staunton Bridge is up West.

Also, is the JFK Expressway yet to be built? If so I look forward to seeing some real infrastructure in your city, as far as highways go.

I chose to turn the JFK Expressway into a simple avenue, as its only a few blocks long, but there will be a JFK Expressway, probably in New Ganton leading off from the New Ganton Bridge.

Actually I didnt, but I use it alot!

I'll try and do more inside the city shots, theyre just hard to make realalsitic.

Kent Plaza, one of my favorites, simply cause it wasnt based off of a single tower (that I rememeber). The base has an atrium, a large mall, and its famous Ice Skating Rink on the roof. The skyscraper is known well for its large KENT Enterprises sign and its highly visible from the North River. Kent Enterprises specializes in anything winter related, I still gotta figure out what this company dose, any suggestions? Its a clean company, with a good record.

The sky looks a little too clear to be a storm. Looks tight though. You should make some other type of disaster like bridge collapse or something. Even though I hate the thought of hundreds of people dying I like the thought of a city being destroyed by a giant monster or something. Can we see a skyscraper with a hole at the top?

I mean something like there was a fire a top a building and then this HUGE gas tank that people for some reason didn't know about exploded and then just a hole was made and hjejfgASGJ!

Or we can see a building with just a hole at the top like the SWFC. Just with less focus on the hole.

The last shot looks like the city is abandoned. It's dark, the buildings all have their windows turned off, it just looks eerie.

Eh, I've always been sick of Arizona, I'm a sucker for Los Angeles, but I must admit, I love the Arizonan Desert, I can never get sick of its beauty.

Neo;3645061']enjoy your stay in chicago and think of new ideas for staunton...^^ (some "chicago styled" skyscraper would be cool!)

Staunton already has a lot of Chicago styled buildings, most hidden downtown, I'll be more specific in a later post.

Ive always pictured 311 South Wacker and Chicago Title and Trust as stanton buildings.

311 South Wacker is an awsome building, I love how it offsets Sears, Galcorp is the Sears in Staunton, but Garden State is the offset building, so Idk if I could have a 311 South Wacker inspired tower in Downtown, maybe midtown. The Chicago Title and Trust Building is one of my favorites, I'm looking for room to put a nice modest sized postmodern building somewhere downtown.

The CBT kinda has that gritty dark stauntonian feel to it.

I love that building! I think I'm going to do some sort of Park Avenue styled area in Midtown, with a building terminating the street (or built over) like the Chicago Board of Trade Building or Helmesty Building in NYC.

PLANS FOR STAUNTON:

CIVIC BUILDINGS

After visiting Chicago, Staunton is in need for a Library, a few Museums, and an Aquarium or Planitatium, like Chicago all in Downtown. I'll mess with the Fort Staunton Area, maybe demolish a few buildings for public space.

A PIER

Navy pier was so awsome, and I think I have the perfect place for "Army Pier" which will include many charming old buildings and retail space, centered with a ferris wheel. I want a roller coaster as well, but I dont think I can make one of those in sketchup! :haha:

DOWNTOWN

Will go through a few improvements here and there and although I want to add a ton of new buildings, Downtown dosnt simply have enough room.

SO

I'll start working on Staunton, I've got nothing planned today, so I'll just see what happens, pictures later.

Thanks you so much! The Wentworth I think is pretty under appreciated, I don’t show much of it, it always seems to appear in Skyline shots despite its distant location.

I would love to do your coaster :D

Army Pier (any other name suggestions?) is in the near future, Jefferson is also! Once I start on the pier I’ll PM you! :)

Maybe you could put Centinnail park in between Midtown and Downtown, and then putting the civic buildings there? maybe even a canal!

Centennial Park was always planned for the space between Downtown and Midtown, the problem was the shape. Like Manhattan, after Downtown the Island will go into a grid, and unforunantly Centennial Park will look too much like Central Park, a big rectangle, any suggestions? Staunton already has a nice civic center in the middle of Downtown, with City Hall, JFK Federal Building, Staunton Supreme Couthouse among others.

Update asshole!:hell:

Theres more to life than sketchup! :sly:

I’ve been working on several other Chicago styled buildings in Downtown, only a few major ones in the 500 – 700 foot range. But theres a revamped Stock Exchange District with a Board of Trade and Mercantile Exchange.

Next on the list:

East of Galcorp
- Staunton Bridge expressway to the New Ganton Bridge and surroundings, Staunton Island Train Station (real name soon), New Ganton Bridge.
Cuture of Staunton- Staunton Opera House, Staunton Museum of Natural History
North of the Island- Jefferson Financial District, Kent Field, Jefferson Train Station (real name soon)

Dont forget I mentioned new buildings, which I will show soon enough, but I also put in this neat little church.

Skyline so far. Army Pier will be between the Convention Center and Fort Hamilton.

For the park try doing it like the boston commons
I can't see the pictures, all I get are the red X of doom that won't go away

Edit: I can see clearly now, the X is gone

will the Staunton Bridge expressway be elevated?

I dont think so, honestly its just a four laned road from the Jefferson Bridge to the New Ganton Bridge, I want it to be a ground freeway, but its a short stretch considering how long the bridge approches have to be.

I thought the domed tower with the jewlers building textures was the stock exchange

That was the Stock Exchange Tower, named because it was ajecent to the Staunton Stock Exchange, the building actually had nothing to do with the exchange. I moved the exchange a block north, so I might give the building a better name, like the Arquette and Lafayette Buildings or maybe pay respect to the Jewlers Building and name it after a Diamond or Mineral.

Army peir sounds good. I'm not sure a steel coaster would fit the name or the city?

I reckon Arquette sounds good - Exquisite like jewellery but no relation.

Cool pics:cool:

Sorry patrick, but I think army pier, kinda sucks. it not very original, the army doesnt really have piers and sounds kinda tacky IMO.

Strato,hmm,how bout a museam? oh,whats his name,Gehry styled?

Nimbos,thats an awesome name,Nimbo,Nimby,haha.

The two new districts look amazing,BTW

Is the Coney Island Cyclone made of steel? Thats what I would love it to look like, but I wouldnt wanna copy it, just the materials, and a name on it like "CYCLONE" but instead reading "STAUNTON" I havent planned Army Pier yet but when I do you'll be the first to know

I reckon Arquette sounds good - Exquisite like jewellery but no relation.

Arqunette is already the name of the 5th tallest building in Staunton, I was just using it as an example.

Sorry patrick, but I think army pier, kinda sucks. it not very original, the army doesnt really have piers and sounds kinda tacky IMO.

:haha: I love posts like that, and I agree with you. I walked up and down Navy Pier and I kept thinking how Downtown Staunton needs something families can enjoy, a pier!

Navy Pier was named after the Navy when they used it for training during WWII. I know Army Pier isnt very creative, or makes much sence, so I guess I could name it "Westly Pier" or "Hamilton Pier" but I dont want to name it something lame like "Staunton Pier"

Strato,hmm,how bout a museam? oh,whats his name,Gehry styled?

A museum is possible, especially in that site! A Gehry Museum also sounds good there, but that would be almost impossible to recreate one of his museums!

Nimbos,thats an awesome name,Nimbo,Nimby,haha.

I named them all after Stratus Clouds:

Stratus cloud = Stratus
Nimbostratus cloud = Nimbos
Altostratus cloud, = Altos South
Altostratus undulatus cloud = Altos North

While Strato was cancelled in 03 (maybe a museum can take its place like Austin suggested) I still have two blocks next door, opening up possibilites for:

Stratocumulus cloud = Strato
Cirrostratus cloud = Cirros

It definantly beats "Staunton Place" or "Westly Residecnces" haha.

Patrick, how about just giving the pier a number? Sometimes simple is just better, and the right number could end up sounding iconic.

I don't think the Army would have a pier, either. It makes sense for the Navy to have one, but definitely not the Army. Maybe if you're going in that vain you could call it the "Navy Yard" or "Navy Depot" or something to that effect. Or, if you're gonna go with the Army, maybe just call it like "The Armory" or something. Or, you could go the other way and call it like "The Marina" or something.

idk. I just don't like "Army Pier".

Great update. I like the little church you added. Id's like to see one in between 2 massive skyscrapers. I'd like to see your panos bigger though.

I like all the additions you have shown above, and I look foward to seeing what you come up with in regards to the Army Pier. I actually like the name, but as mentioned above it doesn't make sense. I'm sure you'll come up with something that works.

I do have a question though: Do you plan on adding any project housing?

So, where in Jersey is Staunton?

I believe he had a map a while ago and it was in northern Jersey, sort of below Staten Island.
