This looks nice. I can't wait to see more. Do you ever think about not making too many tall buildings? For some reason it bothers me when I make a city and try to make buildings ~400 ft. Does this happen to you?

As for City Hall, I like the old one better. The higher pyramid looks nicer. Too bad the textures got messed up. They looked awesome in the building.

^That was Shneif Towers, a luxurious Residential tower, oh I miss Shneif Towers, but there is simply nowhere to put it, maybe in a central park styled district?

I'm planning the peninusla to go like this

Downtown > Arts/Soho Styled Districts > Centennial Park > Staunton Square > Midtown > Industry/Slums

Another shot of the Civic Center. This is from City Hall Park, now explanded to two city blocks, making this view possible. The park still needs to be created, for now its just two empty blocks.

Was the area of Staunton above based off of an area of Chicago? It looks really good. I've always liked that setup, and think it does good to your cityscape.

Aleks
Nov 28, 2007, 5:52 AM
I think it's based off New York. My city (West Point) is also based off New York (in a way) and La Corte was based off an old grid of Chicago.

Do you know how to use Kerk Patrick?

I've never noticed that! No, they werent based off of it, I just fount out about that cluster like a week ago, Its very facinating, but those three buildings just came into cration, the middle white one will be replaced soon, I'm not digging it.

This is the oppisite view, looking from City Hall Park. Five roads converge right at the center of this pic, I need a name for the Square, its just a little patch of public space in between five roads, kinda like Callahan Square.

You don't like Kerk? I've used it a couple of times and the renders come out nice.

On the first picture the building with the dome looks like the Washington Mutual Tower here in Seattle. I like that. I also like you changed the top and dimensions to not make it look like a rip-off.

It's Monmouth Park now, doesn't Cannery Park sound lame? Oh and its photoshop.

Do you have a map of the city as it is now?

No not yet, it will be a while before that, I don't like showing unfinished parts of the city like how Dac150 does, I guess gives a bigger sense of realism?

the texture on the right, was it taken from a building in boston? just wonderin.

No, Chicago.

Queensland Steel had to go! It just didn't look very good, it was way to messy and ruined the skyline really with its disproportional.

So instead we got The Staunton Merchandise Mart, where Showrooms use up to 60% of the building, the top portion is offices, an addition added to the side (part of the tower without the slanting green roof). Completed in 1936, 569 feet.

To the left is the NationsSavings Bank Building, completed in 1991. 605 feet to the top of the decorative dome. Designed to compliment its next door neighbor: the Rome London Banking Corporation Building (RLBC) completed in 1921, 308 feet.

The distant tower with a sphere on top has no story yet, but it sure is one of my favorites :)

Yeah looks kind of old-ish (the texture) but that's O.K. because old buildings usually have walls like that unless a MAJOR remodeling project is done to the building.

Staunton is bot full. I only show views from finished sections since I don't like showing any empty land, that would take away from the realism. Downtown has about 30+ unfinished to empty lots. Not including Monmouth Park West (aka Battery Park City styled area) which is a VERY large area that should change the skyline dramatically, depending on what I build, I think I'll stick with a Chicago Residential styled area.

You made the right move with those antennas on Galcorp. Sometimes things just need to grow on you for you to see that they are a home-run.

Glad to hear that

The east side of Westly Avenue is complete with several different mainly older buildings, a main shopping district, the place for Downtown Christmas Shopping, Shopping Centers, Window Displays, and Christmas Lights. Maybe it should be called Westly Walk? Idk.

I'll show that later! Along with a new flatiron building styled district. So here are some shots from Westly Avenue, looking down the streets to the main financial district area.

What are those, seriously. Like a World Financial Center? Because I already have one hella sexy one

They are exactly what they sound like. Centers for international business and commerce trade.

Forgive me if I'm making you sound stupid, but did you think that the World Trade Center in Manhattan was just a name? No, World Trade Centers are all over the globe and are leased out by various international companies where they can conduct business and trade their good or services. All are under the jurisdiction of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The same thing above applies for Commerce Centers as well, only your dealing with commerce.

Does that help?

Oh no, its only like a 20 story office building

Looks nice. How wide are your streets and 30+ blocks is not that much.

Most of my streets are 40 - 45 feet wide, about a normal four lane street. Yes but depending on how long it takes me to stir up enough inspiration and creativity, 30 city blocks is a hell of a lot. :)

I still dont see much of a difference from a large office complex. The three Galcorp Plaza towers are only about 56% occupied by Galcorp in total, the rest are home to Government Offices and large large Fortune 500 financial/industry companies from across the globe. Same goes for the Staunton Financial Center.

Anyways, here are some shots and some info on the Westly Avenue area. WARNING: boring quick stories ahead.

Saint Nicholas Church

Completed in 1896. Saint Nicholas Chruch is a full service parish church on the edge of the Downtown District. The church, one of the oldest structures remaining in downtown is also home to a historical cemetery. The Church was never in any real danger to be demolished, but skyscrapers and townhomes rise around it from the 30's to 60's. To ensure its safety the church was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 19th, 1976.

Westly ShoppingTown

Westly ShoppingTown is a "vertical shopping mall" with 12 floors of shopping, 14 floors in total. The building has a large atrium, and is a popular downtown attraction, home to several retailers and resturants. Completed in 1955, the Westly Avenue area was largely abandoned. Hopeing to bring in new customers, the Westly Avenue Shopping Center was constructed. Sucessful until the 80's where it closed down till 1992, where the Westly Group bought it, renovated it, renamed it, and re-opened for business. Its been pretty sucessful since.

Kyatt Downtown Staunton

Four Stars, 529 feet High, completed in 1979. Notible for its slanting exterior glass, featuring the building's main atrium.

No each block is a diverse block of buildings, but it really depends on the district, some will be mainly older buildings, others would be very big boxy towers, there will few New Millennium high rises due to the lack of space in Downtown (gotta be realistic!) so currently, looking around Staunton right now there are zero skyscrapers built after 2001.

I think I will put in some under construction restidential towers in Monmouth Park City.

That is nice. I haven't had time to comment today. Been pretty busy. Mostly because I got Photoshop Elements 6 and I was trying to figure out how to make panoramic pictures in it.

Anyways, the buildings look way different on post 1590 than the ones on post 1591! It's great and I love Two Southport Plaza since it's blue. the Thompson building is my favorite though. It looks way awesome, and a half.

Have you tried making a diagram of the city?

Also, have fun in L.A. I might go next month.

The Emporis pages and all those pics, wow, I really missed a lot. It all looks fantastic Patrick! Really does. The Southport set-up looks like it'll really add some justice to your skyline.
