Wow! Heh, I'm almost 16! While I haven't just found this out, it just strikes me as absolutely amazing that people of our age are already designing advanced buildings architecturally, and while people may not realize it, incredibly easy user-friendly model designers like Sketchup will quite literally mold the future of architecture. And due to this, I really don't think it'd be a stretch to say that an incredble renaissance (spelling?) of architecture and design is coming fast, and the potential is there for what could be hundreds of skyscrapers with such intreging designs that, if placed on earth today, would be called some of the best architecture in the world.

Wow fun week, not much time for Staunton. But I do have something to say.

Kerkythea is crap. It is compleltly wasted much of March. Dont expect anymore Kerkythea Renderings because I'm pretty much done with the stupid program. I want my 67,656,453,454,312 Wasted Hours back!

Its extremly not worth it, its extremly stressful. There is hardly ANY support or directions, and the Website has a really sucky server. The loading times are insanley bad, even rendering a few city blocks is painful.

To put it short. Dont waste your time on Kerkythea. It wastes soo much time. The renderings arent even that realalistic and dont really work with textured cities.

Kerkythea sucks. GRR!

So here are some NON-Kerkythea Renders! Sketchup+Photoshop, 5-8mins at the Most, unlike Kerkythea, 30-60mins.

There are many new city blocks, I'll do a big update sooner or later. And look, they are dated, :)

great work as usual, Patrick, though I do have to stick up a little for Kerkythea, as I'm having good results with it. Are you using the SU-Kerkythea exporter? It makes it a lot easier. The best thing I find to do is set up scenes in Sketchup of the shots I want, then export to Kerkythea using the exporter. For me, it only takes a minute and a half for that, then opening the .xml file in Kerkythea takes only a couple minutes. Then you can render the scenes right off the bat, each one taking another three or four minutes, usually, and that's for the whole city. Though I don't think you need rendering since Staunton looks amazing as it is, other people might want to use it.

I have also thought about that, but I also noticed not many people our age like to sit around making cities. Most teens dont even think about achitecture
or city developments. Ive tried so hard to find someone at school who has the same interest as I do but so far nobody. how about you guys?

Mar 25, 2007, 9:22 PM
at 17, there are a few (less than four) kids at my high school who'd be interested in this sort of thing. Most don't care about anything except for gossiping about awful teenage drama. And yet their interest in things irrelevant to society always amaze me. They can list all of the contestants from American Idol, know of the top of their heads what date cotillion/proms is, and yet can't tell me where Iraq is located, how SUVs destroy the environment, or who the vice president is. Christ.

By the way, Patrick, excellent work on Staunton. I only wish the next GTA city can be as detailed as Staunton currently is.

Patrick
Mar 25, 2007, 11:11 PM
Haha Thanks :)

hey patrick, so whats your Population?

Here I stated it a few pages ago: :)
Some Staunton History. yo.

Staunton has a population of an estimated 2,579,631, as of 2007. The City is America's 4th Largest City, originally 3rd, with a population of 2,876,467, before the Crash. Staunton has an unemployment rate of 18.9%, largest in the country, leaving Staunton with almost 1/3 of the city under the poverty line. Since 2001, the city has lost an estimated 296,836 people, all in just 5 years. Most moved away from New Jersey, or simply moved to the suburbs.
[/B]

The Regional Population is very large, as many moved to the suburbs after the Crash, The Staunton County Area is probably around 15 Million. If I ever get to the Staunton Suburbs (which I'm really hopeing too) you will see neverending suburbs, office parks, freeways, and industial parks. It will be some sort of mix between Los Angeles and New Jersey.

Unfortunantly I'm a SUCKER for PERFECTION. SO of course, I used Kerkythea, Again. But this time rendered six city blocks. There are many new buildings, these two I just added today, I love them so much I'll just show them right now.

We have One & Two Library Square THe other two highrises to the right I will showcase soon.

One Library Square - 46 Stories High, Completed in 1986-1988, Largest Tenanat is the Kaufman Brothers Holdings Incorporated (World HQ in NYC)
Two Library Square - 29 Stories High, Actual Name: Carlton Hotel at Library Square, Completed in 1994-1995, 4 Star Hotel.

Both towers where built on empty abandoned lots that surrounded the Staunton Public Library which I will show more of later. The Towers are also near The City Hall and City Hall Park.

Thanks!! Well hmm no update in a week, lots of new stuff, but it will probably take too long to show. There are plenty of lowrises in the Garnett District, giving the area a much more realalistic view, more city blocks around City Hall have been filled in, but I'll show Staunton Square which has been going under reconstruction, and never was fully completed.

After observing and studying Times Square and several other entertainement complexes, I realaized Staunton Square needed much more detail. I couldnt just post giant billboards all over glass buildings.

Here is a quick rundown on the new bases of Staunton Square.

Staunton Square Tower.

Staunton now has Freeways, or a part of it. They will be Chicago + Los Angeles Styled Freeways, the one that is currently under construction, is from the Memorial Bridge, after the Jennifer J. Galviston Memorial Tunnel the freeway will continue, then split into two, one heading torwards Tremorton (a Bridge will soon be in the works) the other, heading towrards suburbia.

This picture is looking North to the Tunnel, I love this shot, it gives a sence of how large these buildings are.

Staunton has a New Bridge.

Well, new design. The Fort Staunton Memorial Bridge will be renamed. I'm not sure what if should name.

The Bridge's new design heavily borrows from Philadelphia's Benjamin Franklin Bridge. The Towers are almost directly coped, except they are larger. The Roadway is nothing like the real bridge, I didnt know how to add sidewalks and other things (since its a curved face) So I guess it will do.

I'm pleased how the bridge turned out, when Staunton First started this was the type of Bridge I was looking for, I never finished it due to the fact that it was too hard for me back then.

- The first bridge was rather plain, a design that was based off of the Golden Gate Bridge.
- Then it was spun off to a traditional arch bridge.
- Then redone to a red brick arch bridge with more details.

Now it is a much more detailed, urban Styled Bridge. I have to say it makes great postcards :)
http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/2989/01pd6.jpg

Tell Me, which name best suits the Bridge?
- Fort Staunton Bridge
- Jefferson Bridge
- Callahan Bridge
- North End Bridge

Along with the new bridge, is a new Waterfront. If you havent noticed the docks and port in front of Downtown is GONE. Notice there is a large park and several mid sized office buildings instead.

PEACE PARK
Constructed in 1998 under the infamous Peace Billboard (picture of the WTC with PEACE on it) was put up on a building overlooking the park in 1993. The previously abandonded site soon became a popular park in the Downtown Area.

Of course this being 1998, so noneother than former mayor John Goodmen constructed it.

PEACE PARK has several intresting sculptures, a playground, resturant space, fountians. It has now become a landmark for the city and a popular destination for the people who live or work in Downtown.

Good! I dont mind! I'm glad you expressed your opinion :)

I do think its a little lame also, but I still like it. Remember that in the Late 90's Staunton WAS "the" place. So this park is sort of a symbol of Old Staunton. Nothing like the PeacePark would be built in New Staunton, Current Mayor Joe Greedson thinks his sexy pool full of moolah is more important.

What this be? A new skyline? Well, possible.

Oh Yes. Staunton 3.0

Unlike the last failed attempt at recreating Staunton, old Staunton 3.0, I think this one might go through.

In 3.0 we will see.
- Many New Buildings, some huge, mostly mid-rise
- More New York Styled 1920's Buildings
- More Prominent Office Towers
- Office Parks & Squares
- A better Skyline
- NO boring GRID! Lower Manhattan Styled Grid
- A MUCH more URBAN feel
- Better Quality Textures
- DETAIL.

Although,
- Many Prominent Staunton Buildings Will not Return, mainly the Residential Supertalls, so far only Lloyd Tower has returned, but this is still early in development.

This WILL take a while, hopefully 3.0 dosnt fall through like the last attempt. But Hey!, things are looking good so far.

Well,

The Skyline from the Atlantic Ocean. This view will change drasticly, as there is a huge amount of empty space for development between the Staunton Life Bldg and the rest of Downtown.
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/139/00001ro4.jpg

Sexy New Waterfront. I've preserved a few Waterfront Buildings from Old Staunton, but there are many new ones.

The prominent Tower in the pic still is nameless, in Old Staunton you can see it blend into the rest of the skyline between the UIG Bldg and the Lloyd Tower (try and find it on the last page, its rather unnoticable) I still need a name for the now Prominent Tower, It will probably be a hotel of some sort. Its currently the 10th Tallest at 660 Feet.

The Tower in the forground is the Markham Marketing Plaza, from the New Waterfront in Old Staunton. You can see it easily in the Panoramic on the Last Page.

http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/4080/000001ht4.jpg

(Possibly) new Callahan Square, nothing like the old one. I love this area, its so realalistic, especially the Flatiron Styled Building. Tall grey tower in the background is the Takanawa Banking Corporation Building, completed in 1983.

Things are looking Bright for Staunton.

The Waterfront is really coming along, The skyline is comeing out great. The Galcorp Plaza has been entirely redone and looks much better. There are many new 600 - 700 footers.

Alas, I wont show entire skyline pics until most of Downtown looks almost done, there is still plenty of Space and work to do.

Someone suggested it before, I never consitered it, but I'm consitering a Midtown Staunton, it wont be as impressive as Downtown, but should have a decent sized skyline.

Downtown Staunton no longer has a boring grid, thus making a better skyline. The area is very simular to Lower Manhattan. After revisiting Old Staunton, it showed that Old Staunton's skyline was impressive but WAY to big for a city with a population of just over 2 million.

The New Waterfront, home to some of the largest buildings in the City. The largest, Winningham Plaza, is home to a seasonal Ice-Skateing Rink, a mall, gardens, and is World Headquarters of family-owned Winningham Industries.
http://i17.tinypic.com/677fa0g.jpg

So much work to be done, you wouldnt see this in Old Staunton. Theres the Callahan Square District, with its prominent cluster of Towers, lincluding the Newly designed Lloyd Tower and Classic United International Group Tower.

Galcorp Plaza
Galcorp Enterprises, World's Larget Company, has its headquarters in Staunton. The Building originally 83 Floors and 1067 Feet High is now 89 Floors and 1159 Feet high. (Hey a company that large needs a larger tower) making it the 3rd Tallest in the Country.

VERY LONG Emporis page.

Skyline
Much need to be done, but the Skyline from the North seems complete. Postcard from the Top of the Jefferson Tower's observationn deck of the Jefferson Bridge.

Apparantly a lot of people view this thread, PLEASE reply when you do, ANY feedback would be great!!

quickie.

WELL, we got a more complete Civic Center, City hall actually has Pillars, not square rectangle things! ;) The two buildings to the left are the Prosperity Building (Mid-sized with huge fancy balcony for Luxurious Parties) and the um well, I know its a Courthouse, and thats about it. (Gold Topped tower which looks seemingly like the Thurgood Marshall United States Courthouse in NYC, but bigger)
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/3596/0000001zj6.jpg

Some buildings on the North End, including 3 large ones: the Winningham Plaza, sort of like the Rockefeller Center (wait until you see the Podium, with a ice-skateing rink, parks, statues, public stuff) and modified versions of the Mercantile Building and Verison Building NYC.

Skyline comin together, what do you think? The thing about it is, in 3.0 Staunton now has more than 1 conglomerated skyline, it now has clusters with buildings of different heights. As you can see, the Galcorp and Garden State Buildings are much more prominent.

Keep in mind the whole left side is still very vacant, while the right is almost complete.

Personally I like the old skyline. I feel this way because the more consolidated, compact, and dense the skyline is, gives an impression on the cities size. I feel by looking at the skyline now, you have lost the desity that the city once had. The buildings however are very nicely done as usual. I am looking foward to see the left side done. I'm sure it will come out good.

A suggestion though on what to put there:
From that skyline shot I see a lot of art-deco architecture. Not that thats a bad thing, but I think it would be to your benefit to balance out the skyline with more modern highrises and glass boxes on the left side. This is coming from a man who loves box style architecture, but we can all see the older architecture. Why not more 60's, 70's, and even 80's architecture. New York City has a very diverse skyline, and knowing thats what you want I would follow through with this suggestion, but ultimately its up to you.

Not trying to denounce your work, but this is my viewpoint, and I know you like to here forumers suggestions.

Keep up the good work!!!!!

Holy crap, those renderings look amazing! I really like the new stuff, but I will agree with Dac150, you should try some different styles of architecture. I'd love to see more modern all-glass buildings and such. You've really improved this in recent months, and I can't wait to see what you can do into the future! Keep it up!

Dac150 thanks for so much feedback. Well let me see. The reason the skyline looks so sparse is only the more prominent towers are placed in the city, as time goes by you will see the skyline will fill in quite nicely (hopefully).

The reason Staunton is now overloaded with 1920's and 30's buildings is, well its on the upper East Coast. If you notice, Cities like Philadelphia and New York have a huge consentration of pre-war towers, due to the boom right before the depression. Staunton apparantly also went through the 1920's boom, only to be haulted by the Crash of 1929.

Once again History repeats as the boom started again through 1986 - 2001, with the 2001 Crash.

Plus art-deco towers have much more grace, the Civic Center has never looked so good, with its massive Art-Deco Towers, Which I'll show more of soon. Staunton will have many more Boxes, I took your advice and added a few new massive ones, you'll see once I show the Completed Skyline.

Ok, I dont like to show arieals since empty patches will be seen, so here's a mini tour of some of the new sights in Downtown.

Clark Media Plaza, heres one Dac150. ClarkMedia, a huge Media Conglomorate's World Headquarters right in Downtown. The complex includes two massive Black Boxes and a tall cylidrical Residential/Hotel Tower with a rooftop garden penthouse.

Jefferson Pointe is a park under the Jefferson Bridge, also in the slums, has a nice view of the skyline from across the river.
http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/4772/001xt7.jpg

Galcorp Plaza, with its massive two Towers, now with a Harriott Hotel.
http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/2996/00001ie8.jpg

Liberty Square, a small park/plaza near Callahan Village. Only two blocks from the riverfront, many major buildings reside in the area, such as the UIG Tower, HorizonWireless Bldg, and Carter Place. The plaza is famous for its appearence in movies, due to the massive scuplture on site, called "Sunspot" but mainly called the "Red Diamond"

Callahan Village, remenisiant to Greenwich Village, in NYC surrouned by Staunton Square, Downtown, Liberty Square, and the River. Once rolling slums now mainly lofts and apartment buildings for the city's artists and celeberties.

Thanks!

Quick glance of the City's new layout, as you can see, much like New York's, oh well.

Four Main Areas of Staunton:

New Ganton - Suburbs, Industry, Landfill
Staunton - Downtown, Financial District
Jefferson - Slums, Residential, Airport
Brighton - Industry, Landfill, Suburbs

Combined Population (2007) - 2.7 Million
