Aleks

Go to "tools," click on "3D Text," choose a height and width for letters, write your word/comment. Click O.K.

Done.

Okay I never do these kind of shots anymore but I'll show the progress.

What you see is all the permanent buildings of Downtown, these are staying, as you can see the skyline is much more realalisticly spaced out.

All those empty grids, so many opprotunites. Chicago Styled Buildings to the left! Boxy Towers in the center.

Lloyd Tower almost didnt make it, not fitting into the grid, so I had to fix the area, and City Hall's odd parcel, I knew the Lloyd was a favorite so its staying

Chicago styled buildings in New Jersey? I look forward to the new layout but don't think that'd be a wise option in terms of congruence.

-Did you delete all the buildings that filled those gaps? I sure hope not. What about the Financial Center? I don't see it in that shot.
-Not to sound like a broken record, but I still think that the antenna on Galcorp should go. The building was much more distinctive without it.
-Also looking foward to the new grid!

No I'm transfering them to a new file so Old Staunton still exists, I'm extracting the better buildings out of that file and putting them in this hopefully final version of Staunton. The SFC is coming back eventually, don't know about Cannery Park West.

Dac, they're staying, I still have yet to actually modify them into actual communications towers (pointy blue spires) but really not every city's buildings are perfect, you have to dislike some parts of every skyline, that just makes Staunton a bit more realistic!

Wait. That's the Loyd Tower? I thought it was the Art Deco one with the white roof.

If it is then I love it. It's the best building so far. Are you just going to fill in the city with old towers or are you going to make new ones?

No that's City Hall. Well mix it really, I'll put in some of Staunton's classics and fill in the rest with fresh new building (not new as in modern new as in new)

hope to see the new version!

Stauntons going relatively slow, my free time is only like late late nights and slow weekends.

So, Staunton Stock Exchange, anyone rememeber the old Twin Slab Glass Towers Stock Exchange? It will come back but wont be the Stock Exchange Anymore. Maybe an Annex of some sort.

More city shots soon enough.

Okay skyline progressing, as you can see I'm doing less supertalls, raising the heights of Galcorp and Garden State gives the city a much more inpressive centerpoint, I'm a little afraid on how the Staunton Financial Center's effect on this view.

I'll show more of it once i get to the Callahan Square District.

Last pic for the night, new unnamed Gothic Tower, new sexy triangle shaped building to the right, the Gothic Tower is showing its backside, so thats not the most impressive view.

Wow, awesome.

What are the usual dimensions you use for the buildings floor plates?

Depends really what kind of building it is. But thats one of the reasons im redoing Staunton, many of the buildings where impossibly thin.

smexylicious !

Yes the Callahan Village area, next to Peir 13 Mall and the docks. I dont know, that was a year ago, Oceanside's pretty dead as it is. I love the US Airlines Tower and I really want to bring it to Staunton, but a tower that huge would throw off the balanced skyline, if it came back, it would have to replace the Lloyd Tower  Whats an OBS Tower? I'll see what I can do, I've been dodging those antennas for a while now.

Well I've been busy with school, friends, other projects, not enough time for Staunton.

This World Trade Center model I've been working on for a 9/11 Conspiracy Documentary got me enough money to buy a camera. :)

Well, I live in Phoenix suburbia very far from Downtown, so theres not much to photograph skyscraper wise :haha:

Well I supposed I could add one in Cannery Park. (Your thinking of uh, Burmingham Fountian? in Grant Park, Chicago)

Its still there, although the model's kinda pointless, now that there is 3D Warehouse.

Here's the tip of the Island. Theres One Southport Plaza (1961), Two Southport Plaza (1979), and The Bank of Staunton & Trust Building (1928), (Converted into Condominums in 2004).

Nice. Is your avatar a picture of Phoenix from your neighborhood?

Oh no, thats Los Angeles from the hills. The Phoenix Metro is located in virtually flat area surrouned by mountians. Phoenix is very large but not tall, the city size is bigger than New York City, Miami, and Philadelphia combined. So theres lots of space to build, meaning few skyscrapers, plus the airport is near downtown, so we have a height limit of 500 feet I believe.

In short Phoenix Metro = lame.

I can't wait to get back to LA

I'm going to L.A. next year, first time that I remember because I was like 8 when I went there and I cared little about buildings.

It would be good if they raised the height limit in Phoenix that way they can do something better with all the land like Wildlife sanctuaries or parks; Phoenix would also get a skyline and start following other cities in the path of LEED and green buildings.

I would have fun in a city like Phoenix, I would rarely be on the computer I live in Seattle and everything is expensive, but the wildlife is great I love that about Seattle. They just found a bear in the University District which is really populated for a bear to be in.

OMG! That car your mom has looks just like my moms!! WTF!OMG!BBQ! and you said you're getting that car? Sweet we'll both have Honda's if you get it cause I'm getting my moms car next year.

Why do you like skyscrapers? and

I love the Verizon Building, the original, before the disgusting 21st Century start of recladding Manhattan's architectural history. I like The Verizon Building, very much so that I recreated it in Staunton some time ago (before I knew of the reclad, I believe).

Yes, I still need to add cars to the new model of Staunton, but it's so boring so it wont be for a while.

I don't think so, the windows are too big for a building that size, and it's a complete ripoff of the Wrigley Building in Chicago. :(

I'm sorry that seemed like a silly question. Thats the Garden State Building but was designed by the same architects as the Empire State Building, which explains the design!

Its like the 3rd oldest building ever created from Staunton I assumed you knew!

Patrick hates having Staunton compared to New York, I noticed that over time. :haha:

It does look a hell of a lot like it there though, and that's definitely a compliment. It'd be a shame if you nixed the clock tower there...maybe if you can make some kind of redesign of it if you don't want to use that one, it'd be awesome, because it fits so well in that spot.

Nice. Your looks the most realistic out of all in Cityscape.

But why don't you ever tell which building is new or make a story for a building?

Well I didnt really think anyone cared and read them! I'll start making stories again.

Yup thats Staunton's Penscobot Building. So I can't take all the credit, I did adjust parts of the building, so its not an exact copy more like an inspiration. It name is the Prescott J. Hamilton Building.

Here is United American Avenue

http://i3.tinypic.com/8105yyo.jpg

Like Hutchinson's Dyckman Avenue or New York's Avenue of the Americas, United American Avenue is one of Staunton's most busiest and vital roads. the road cuts through downtown, ends at Monmouth Park (the name Cannery Park sucked :haha: )

Galviston Enterprises Plaza at United American Avenue

GEP includes three major office towers in the heart of Downtown Staunton. Constructed between 1973 - 1976, by Galviston Enterprises of course. Galviston Enterprises main offices are located at Galcorp Plaza. But Galviston Enterprises' branches have offices in other buildings. Take 1176 & 1179 United American Avenue, offices to GalAllied Chemicals and GalOIL.

Queensland Steel National Headquarters

Queensland Steel, a MAJOR Steel company providing its famous steel worldwide. Queensland Steel's World Headquarters is in Melbourne Australia. As Galprises formed the plan for the 3 Towered complex, Queensland Steel, a close partner with Galprises chose to have their USA headquarters in the 585 foot tower in 1976. The Building's architecture, notiablely different from the other two towers, showcases its main product, STEEL on its facade. Originally a black colored building, the eventually dirty steel was replainted white, the building as well was upgraded in 1989. Another feature is Queensland's major logo on two sides of the building, being notoriuslly HUGE letters, there have been several attempts to take them down, as some citizens consider them an eyesore.

GalAllied Chemicals Building

Completed in 1973, 500 feet tall to mechanical penthouses. Headquarters to GalAllied Chemicals, the nations biggest chemical manufacturer, 3rd worldwide. GalAllied Chemicals is a major provider of plastics, chemicals, and agricultural products. The building was designed to look simular the buildings at Galcorp Plaza a few blocks away.

GalOIL Building

Completed in 1974, 695 feet tall to mechanical penthouses. Headquarters to Galviston Enterprises' GalOIL, 2nd largest energy supplyer in the US, biggest competition: NEXXONoil. The building was designed to look simular the buildings at Galcorp Plaza a few blocks away.

The Queensland Steel building is just awesome. Very unique. I'm not sure if you noticed, but I think you missed the "u" in the logos (just trying to help you out :)).

This is really nice. I love the stories.

Do you use Photoshop to make the shadows at the bottom of the buildings (near the streets)?

Thanks, I'll do more stories soon!

Yes, if only Sketchup did that for you. The shadows give some depth, and look quite realalistic huh? :)

CITY OF JUSTICE and its CITY HALL

I've written about City Hall several times.

City Hall
Constructed in 1925, one of Staunton's favorite buildings, known for its gigantic pillars at the buildings base and lovely tower. Original City Hall, now unfortunantly demolished was too small for Staunton's Standards at the time. Although, New City Hall is a little too big for the City's Standards today. Rising 605 feet, 43 Floors, the Tower no Longer stands out in the Skyline, but is still the Crown Jewel of Downtown. At 605 feet, it is currently the World's 2nd tallest City Hall.

Compared to the Previous Version. (the textures where ruined when it was scaled to fit the city block so that why it looks like doo)

http://i8.tinypic.com/6z3ul21.jpg

New Base, I do kinda miss the classic pillars, but I guess they where kinda unrealistic. I'm going to change the "CITY OF STAUNTON" to "THE CITY OF JUSTICE".

http://i4.tinypic.com/6yy6jj4.jpg

The thing about city hall is I never really based it off a certain tower. As time has progressed, City Hall's basic design has stayed the same. I've flattened the half pyramid, and increased the spire, frankly I think it looks much more realistic.
