Do you think it looks like the Symphony Towers?

I was originally intending it to look like the Shearson Lehman Plaza in New York City (Shearson Lehman = Sherri Hutchinson) but it turned out like another Symphony Towers lookin bldg! I think i'll make it fatter, and maybe a more creative crown?

Thanks!

I'm not much of a morning person, I just dont like Mornings, the way they look, the things you do during morning, bahh! I dont eat breakfast, hate getting up and showering, and here in AZ, the morning sun is very hot, so walking to the bus stop is pretty unpleasant. I love the evening and night, best time of the day.

But nevertheless, a morning pic.

Good job Patrick.

I don't like to choose between being a morning or night person but I agree with CGII that mornings have a great appearance. In Florida the morning sunshine is beautiful.

The best way to defeat the morning tiredness is to get up immediately you awake, eat breakfast, and get ready for the day fast. Going slow makes you more tired plus you waste time.

Another City Blocks pics.

This is the area nearby Galcorp Plaza, it was crap, redone several times. Heres the final version, its very Detroit Styled, so Its not the wealthiest part of Downtown. The Two Tallest: The Jefferson Stanley Building (Been around for a LONG time since oldd Staunton) and the Prescott J. Hamilton Building.

The District is Finishedd.

Derek loves SD, I really disliked that Black Box, the textures where too small, the building had no details. Its no longer there, BUT you inspired me to put a black box in the block next door.

The Saint Peterson Hotel and Prescott J. Hamilton Building.

The Black Box replaced an older tower and a church, I spare the church and moved it next door, it also has a small cemetary with the extra space. The City still needs a Train Station, Opera House and Museums, not to mention more Churches, well this is the first.

I think that you need more residential highrises in the waterfront, and you should make a new project where it's not just one building but a whole bunch like 3-6ish. Maybe a new financial center or a convention center, similar (not in design) to those towers you have by the waterfront with the white dome and pyramid.

I love the skyline and the gap in the right makes it look open and fresh. Gaps are awesome, they give privacy, open feeling, and make your skyline longer/wider.

I believe that bridge goes into Jefferson Alek.

Patrick- that last shot is absolutely stunning. You cannot get more dense than that. I am anxious though to see all that white space filled in.

When that time comes I suggest making lowrise buildings and then back to highrises to break up the downtown skyline. That'll make it distinctive and bold.

However (if you make a midtown) don't make the gap between Down and Midtown too big, otherwise it'll really resemble Manhattan.

Patrick
Sep 20, 2007, 10:37 PM
Okay i'm in a hurry.

- I'm making a new and improved grid (You should see a current shot, the Staunton layout isnt as perfect as it seems, very impratical)
- Dozens of Buildings are in need of an upgrade (like the last updates).

The skyline shouldnt change too much, Cannery Park West will be tweaked as it is too much like Battery Park City. New layout (much nicer I might add) means more realalistic street views (which are nearly impossible due to Staunton's crappy layout).

The Callahan Bridge needs work also, too curved, and too short for a bridge that size.

Nice. I don't know where the bridge crosses to but I would like to find out. I was wondering if I (we) could get some shots from streets, ships, observation deck, etc? Oh, are you working or going to work on new projects?

Thats the Jefferson Bridge! We've seen it dozens of times, It connects Staunton to Jefferson, (Two Different Boroughs).

I think it was your post that finally got me to revamp the Layout and redo practically every building in the city. So thanks!

Okay I keep calling the Jefferson Bridge the Callahan Bridge, its the Jefferson Bridge as it goes into Jefferson. Its original name was the Callahan Bridge but, wheres Callahan? It can also be called the North End Bridge

When that time comes I suggest making lowrise buildings and then back to highrises to break up the downtown skyline. That'll make it distinctive and bold.

However (if you make a midtown) don't make the gap between Down and Midtown too big, otherwise it'll really resemble Manhattan.

Yes I'm trying to give the Skyline less clutter, it looked too dense in that last shot, cause the layout was messy and unreal. This new layout should clear things up.

Midtown will have a small skyline, I've been thinking: 3 or so tall Art Deco (Nothing over 800ft) with smaller 500 - 700 foot boxes. I'm thinking of moving Staunton Square uptown. As it was akward before and was mashed in into Downtown. Good idea?

So to put it in short Midtown will be Park Avenue + Times Square, in between will be, Some Projects, a SoHo and TriBECA styled neighborhoods.

There will also be another bridge next to the Jefferson Bridge (Probably Suspension?) and the two bridges will form a main highway that will run across the Staunton Bourough and form a final Bridge spanning the South River, maybe a Queensborough styled bridge. I can see it now

SO, this is Staunton's previous Layout.

http://i17.tinypic.com/6chev14.jpg

Now.

http://i15.tinypic.com/6cie1d2.jpg

Is photoshoping them very time consuming? It is on painy.net.

also, ive been meaning to ask you this, you dont gotta respond, but a while ago you said you got your texts from windows birds eye view. How do you get them off the internet page to photoshop

I think you two awnsered each other's questions earlier

OKAY SO.

Britney Spears says Gimme More so I'll give you guys more: hes what I have so far.

So yeah you saw the new grid, makes more sence, realalistic, so this calls for a completed make-over of Staunton.

Things are a-changing. LOOK! New buildings, LOOK! New Textures, LOOK! New Garden State Building, WTF! is up with One Galcorp Plaza?

http://i7.tinypic.com/4p1da1u.jpg

Okay so I'll give the story for the Garden State Building. I havent updated it since well, a long time (before I completetly redid Staunton), also it looked small compared to One Galcorp Plaza, so I made it bigger and better. YAY! But this caused the spire to top One Galcorp Plaza, so to make it the tallest I added some large antennas atop the tower. YES its not the best looking things but hey (Sears Tower, John Hancock, One World Trade Center, Empire State Building) all have massive antennas atop. Yes it dose look yucky but I will give them the proper textures sooner or later.

So if your in the Spire/Antenna debate, the GSB is techically taller if you dont count Antennas, BUT I do so yeah, One Galcorp Plaza still the tallest.

So if you havent noticed the new version is a mix of the Empire State Building and 500 5th Avenue, so it will be designed by Shreve, Lamb and Harmon, same architects of the two. Had it been built by a different architect we would have seen one ugly lawsuit.

Wow! Your city is so detailed!! If it wasn't for all the odd shaped buildings in my city I would use textures on them!! I love the Garden State Building and before I read your design explanation I noticed it looked similar to the E.S.B. but still it's awesome. I don't get why you would want to change the textures though. It looks nice! and if you want Galcorp Plaza to be the tallest then add something like extra floors (like those buildings in Japan and Chicago which can add floors if more space is required) because technically antennas don't count as the official building height!

The layout of the city is nicer and much realistic than the old one!! I didn't know what the layout was like but good thing you changed it!

OH, it was my comment that inspired you into changing the city!!! O.M.G!!!

Patrick
Sep 24, 2007, 3:11 AM
Thanks :)

I'm not sure about One Galcorp Plaza, I'll see what I'll do, maybe raising the height is good, I'm not to crazy about the Antennas, Its 1175 Feet, 3rd tallest in america, about 200 feet short of the Empire State Building, I guess a few feet wouldnt hurt. It is 1379 feet to the top of the antennas. The Garden State Building is 1,200 feet tall to the tip of the spire.

TELL ME:

Staunton is the 4th Largest City in the USA, are these towers too tall for a city of 2.6 Million?

NexxonOil Plaza and Kent Enterprise Plaza.

Aleks
Sep 24, 2007, 3:29 AM
Not really, it all depends on your economy. Just look at Chicago and L.A.
L.A. is way bigger than Chicago yet Chicago has way more skyscrapers. I think that that population should grown a little more thought because you have a lot of towers! It's O.K. compared to the population thought.

There's a city called Kent like 10 miles from here!!! Yay Kent!:D

how old is Galcorp? I think it would be neat if there was An old Galcorp building, reminescint of trump.not to big,but It sounds cool.

Galviston Enterprises or Galcorp as its commenly called today formed in 1963, founded by Alexander Galviston the first at age 43. Originally GalvistonOil or Galoil, Galviston Enterprises formed soon after merging with several banking and financial companies in the 60's. Soon after Galviston Enterprises was formed it soon rose to become one of the largest companies on earth, by the time it ranked #5, Alexander Galviston planned for a new headquarters in a run down part of downtown which would house the company's main headquarters. 1979 the complex was complete including 2 Tall Tower (you all aready know the story of the twins) and 3 lowrises. A Harriott would be added in 1983.

So soon there was:

Galviston Properties
- Galcorp owns a considerable amount of office space in Staunton. Galviston Properties owns buildings such as the World Financial Center in New York, Lloyd Tower in Staunton, JCMorgennMace Tower in Houston and much more in the USA, Canada, and Australia.
Galviston Financial
- Galcorp Insurance, investment firms. Galviston Financial Ranks 1st in financial companies trailing ahead of Citigroup.
The Galcorp Foundation
- Alex Galviston the first Childrens Hospital, Galcorp Foundation for the Arts.
Galcorp Industries
- Galoil ranks in at number two, just behind its biggest compedator, NexxonOil. Galviston Enterprises also hold GalChemicals, which has several chemical handeling factories across the country, known for its scandals, pollution, and waste dumping. 1993 - 2003 had a clean record.

In 1993, Alexander Galviston the first, in his senior years, handed down the company to Alex Galviston the Second, who became chairman of the company. He has sucessfully handeled the company and is taking it to new heights. The Galviston family is very well known across the US, as the perfect rich family living on the hilltop overlooking Staunton. Until recently Jennifer Galviston, age 23, has been hangin with Paris Hilton and Brittney Spears, as she lives in LA and is very well known being a Galviston. (Lindsey Lohan was there too, you know until Paris called her a Firecrotch :haha:) bringing the family much negative publicity as well. To summerize they're FAMOUS as today's actors and musicans for simply being RICH and YOUNG.

Sep 25, 2007, 3:48 AM
Well, the story is interesting! It's actually good thought but the last part was a little meehhh... I don't know the twin tower story but sound good. Well maybe it's time for more companies to move into Staunton!!

Dac150
Sep 25, 2007, 6:45 PM
I think if you plan to revitalize the city you should make another office complex (target its location in Midtown).

-You could call it the Staunton International Business Center. Make it about 4 buildings, and a fifth that is a hotel. They can rest on podiums full of retail, trading, and conference floors. That's just my suggestion. Business and financial centers ar good (real life) ways for cities to attract companies (big and small).

-You may also want to build another rail station. In real life, areas of transit attract business.

-Keep Galcorp the way it is considering it is Staunton's signature building. Forget the antennas ontop, because in that diagram you showed above, they honestly don't fit. Perhaps build and observation deck (outdoor and indoor) on the top of the building.
-You may also want to heighten the 2nd Galcorp twin. You do not have to make it the same height, but perhaps a little taller than it currently is.

-Lastly, I would not name the new bridge and district "Kings". Kings is the other name for Brooklyn in New York, and is also a Brooklyn neighborhood. (Have you ever heard of: Kings Highway, Kings Plaza Mall, all in Brooklyn).

Well you like a lot of comments Patrick, so there you go. Hope I helped with some things.

Aleks
Sep 25, 2007, 10:42 PM
U agree all the way with Dac and I already said you need a convention center a while ago!!!

Please listen to us! Make a new Financial Center or some office complex! Oh, if you want to add height to Galcorp Plaza then just add another floors like the head honcho office or a glass covered Sky Plaza with a garden or something new-er to modernize the building.

- That already exists! The Staunton Financial Center. I'm keeping it where it is, connecting it to Aleks0o01's Convention Center. 4 Towers, one hotel, the one with no logo.

Its a very big feature of the Southern Skyline, did you not see it in all the times I pointed them out? If you mean a second one, thats too much, this complex is big enough (News Garner Tower 2nd Largest in the City) As you can see its inspired by the World Financial Center, it has large podiums for retail, trading, and conference floors, plus notice the largest Companies in the Staunton Universe occupying these towers.

You may also want to build another rail station. In real life, areas of transit attract business.

Yes I've been thinking about one, of course It needs too happen, I dont know exactly where, but I've been considering an older styled station (lotsa pillars) I'll look into Train Stations Accross the country.

Keep Galcorp the way it is considering it is Staunton's signature building.

Yes I'm not redoing it, especially into glass (sorry guys), we dont want another Verizon Disaster (anyone seen the Verizon Building tribute on the corner of the island?) I'll be keeping its signature texture, its always had a grey color with long dark window, like Dac150, signature!

The Antennas I am still not sure about yet, I've already grown to them, they ARENT staying blue of couse, imagine Sears Tower styled anteannas.

Tower 2 is staying, Its actually a very large building, 738 Feet, and due to its very tall neighbors, you dont see the tower too much.

Lastly, I would not name the new bridge and district "Kings". Kings is the other name for Brooklyn in New York, and is also a Brooklyn neighborhood. (Have you ever heard of: Kings Highway, Kings Plaza Mall, all in Brooklyn).

Yes It wont be named Kings, its just a temporary name, it should be named the New Ganton Bridge, as it goes into the City's 4th Borough.
- Staunton
- Jefferson
- New Ganton
- Brighton

And yess I knew Kings was Brooklyn, why is it named Queens? :haha:

OLDD PIC. Bound to be updated soon.

And Dac150 THANKS for the helpfull comments, really I'd be so glad to have more like those. Really thanks for all the feedback, I'll see what I can do.

Aleks, the Convention Center Is happening, you must realize, I AM listening, but really I have much more in life than just Staunton (high school years!! :)) oh and the endless homework too :yuck:

I mean really, we wont see Midtown till at least Winter. :(

I knew there was the Financial Center, on the post I left a while ago I said something similar to a Financial Center would be nice. I guess I should have specified that on the other post.

A complex would be nice and name it City Block!! It would be nice to add glassier towers to Staunton. It would also be nice because since it's not a financial center you could add residential towers, office towers, hotels, shopping, and basically anything else which benefits your city unless you're having a real estate crisis.

By the way the Financial Center looks really nice!!

I never said I was going to do a Dallas Based area, just as Dallas Styled Tower, which is probably off the boards by now.

No glass! I'm sorry but why do you guys keep asking for more glass? Unlike everyone here (except Dac150) this is an east coast city, the older part of the US, the older the city, the older the buildings are!

Take Lower Manhattan. I spot 5 Glassy Buildings.

But glass is nice. Sleek, and all that stuff. Older buildings are nice but they just can't keep up with modern times and it seems like a lot of people are into glassier towers I guess. I love Art-Deco towers but it's too hard for me to make them that's why in my city almost all the buildings will be glass. That and because it's a Dubai styled (not the towers) city!!

Guys, glass buildings are mostly common in southern and western cities like Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, etc.... In the Northeast, even glass boxes are typically lined in granite, marble, or another stone. Even aluminum. There are hardly any pure glass buildings in Manhattan.

Staunton is a Northeast city, so in that regard, all glass buildings are not common.

Patrick- stick with what you feel is right.

Keep that attitude, you'll do yourself a favor. I myself was very heads down in High School, mostly concentrating on work, and it payed off big time!

Sketchup is fun, but it's not life.

I know Dac but glass would be nice I'm just saying.

I guess it all depends on what the maker of city likes. It's just harmless fun no biggie!

Nice. I love it but it reminds me a little too much to the World Trade Center =(.

I like the antennas but maybe they're a little too short. Or not.
Are you using the current requirements that classify a buildings height?

I've never seen the entire Galcorp Plaza Complex. Never realized the the amount of buildings. I don't think it resembles the WTC that much if at all.

I don't mean that it looks like it but just the way it's laid out. Maybe it's good you have it set this way because looks like complexes like these were popular back then.

That's probably me! Failed all but 1 class in the first semester of freshmen year.

Now I have to pass all my classes cause next year were getting six periods not 4. Sucks ass because now I can only go up to pre-cal and I wanted to take cal. my senior year.

Patrick do you tell people at school about your models and cities??

No not really, I mean some have asked on Myspace (I posted a few screens of my portfolio) but its really low key. I'm mostly known for the drawings. :)

HOKAY.

The View looking from Westly Boulevard with the Garden State Building

Up in the skyscraper canyons of downtown, check out the new New Jersey Post Building, modeled off of the classic Daily News Building in NYC.

http://i22.tinypic.com/2lmpeur.jpg

The central city cluster including Kent Plaza, NexxonOil and 715 Phantom/Jefferson Avenue (Idk if its still Phantom Avenue, that was its original name in Old Staunton).

http://i20.tinypic.com/20shy4y.jpg

Kent Plaza, built by billionaire Austin Kent owner of Kent Industries, a muli-million dollar company that runs much Staunton's Power & Energy Plants, known for its notoriously clean record. The successful Kent Industries built Kent Tower in 1990, part of the 3 Tower Deal called Enterprise Plaza which includes the NexxonOil Tower (1973) and Dean Whitney Building (1986).

The Tower is known for its two gigantic KENT Logos atop the Podium Building and Tower itself. The Tower's location is perfect for sweeping views, as it is at an angle few offices have a view of the building next door. The tower is 718 feet high to the top of the KENT sign (Not the one in this pic). The 10 story podium is home to Parking and a popular Galleria. The roof has gardens and the famous Kent Skating Rink as seen on TV and Movies.

No, on top of the Podium, in the last picture, the top of the smaller 10 story building with the KENT sign. A skating rink 60 floors up? Oh no!

Photoshop.
