It really annoys me that Jin Mao is never fully lit, which is due to the fact that there is a hotel up top. I fear it'll be the same problem for US7.

the building looks pretty narrow.

It's not. I've been by the site, and this thing is going to be at least as big around as the neighbouring Jin Mao tower, which is most certainly not narrow. It's a really large construction site - when I was there I didn't see a lot of activity (probably because it was lunch time ;) ), but I'm amazed to see how fast this building is progressing. It's going to make a nice companion for the absolutely stunning Jin Mao Building :)

When I was there, it was almost impossible to see the plot itself from the JinMao (only partially from the 54th floor) but at this date, the building should be quite advanced so you can see it from the observation deck. From the Oriental Pearl, I advice you to go the open air deck, if your camera has an orientable screen and if our arm is long enough to pass the security wire netting you will take clearer pix there (no dirty window glass).

And don't forget to have a meal at "Lulu's" (great shanghaiese food), second floor of the China Merchants Building

Aug 14, 2005, 5:09 PM
Dont be stupid... it has been proven that what is built isnt the entire footprint... look at the walls on a more recent picture, they are sheer concrete... without windows, now i dont know about you but id imagine that there will be windows in the outer most wall. also factor in the reports released saying the floors will start to rise in a month or so, and the fact that that diagram proves precisely fuck all. those two walls you point out could just as likely be two further in on the diagram. Also that diagram was from a schematic which is known to be out of date, and illustrates a higher floor after a few of the setbacks have been removed

STR
Aug 14, 2005, 8:13 PM
Stop calling people stupid when they disagree with you. Especially when you make an ass out of yourself in the same post. If you actually took the time to examine the diagram (as opposed to flaming people) and how it relates to the tower, you'd see that the perimeter colums are clearly visible. Meaning, that the tower isn't getting any wider and the remaining length that will be added to the wings will likely be cantilevered out from the portion shown above.

Furthermore, while the relation of floors may be out of date, there is no proof that the structural combination of central core, wing cores and perimeter colums have been altered in any way since the creation of the schematic.

The design of this building is killer, and I cannot wait to watch it grow taller :) Thanks for the updates.

From what I read about the building, it has a twin structural system. The structural system of this building was designed as a double tube system. This involves a perimeter tube formed of slender steel reinforced perimeter columns with a second concrete tube around the core. For added lateral resistance, the two tubes are tied together every 15 levels. The foundation of the Shanghai World Financial Center consists of a 4 meter thick mat foundation poured over friction piles that extend up to 70 meters below grade.

Things may have changed, but this was described as the original revised version of the tower.

Proof? I am sick of hearing this pure unsubstantiated boosterism. I really just don't care anymore.. it is under construction.. it seems unlikely that they can just pick whatever height they want at this point.

Well actually that diagram shows burj about 200m higher than SWFC which seems to be right. That diagram shows the 705m version.

Anyways, this doesn't look 11 floors high. That's just the scaffolding. Judging by the height of the workers it's about 7 floors high.

August 25th 2005, by the recently renamed raincity.

With the JinMao besides, we can see the building must be 5 floors high at the most :

Activities around the tower core. Preparing the podium construction ?

If they start building the podium, the construction of the tower might slow down.
I hope I'm wrong.

It needs some more work on the base (I know it won't be all-glass) and the cut-out, but here's a model.

They will most likely have a different group working on the podium, than on the core. As the project expands you will see more and more workers from the different trades. You now have two cranes, so construction speed will possibly pick up.

I can't wait for the times when construction will reach the begining of the curves.
