They are really closing up the bottom with concrete. Must be where the building will join it. Looks like 4 more floors should rise quickly before the next maintenance level. I was also expecting the first setback before the next floors, but I guess not yet.

They have to raise one crane again.

Interesting that they removed the core scaffolding at the top for the first time since it has risen. I wonder why? At least, we finally get to see how far they pour inside that green stuff.

Hmmm......

I'll try to update the top page today, but no promisses

Giallo, I don't think that is the site for the third supertall. The third should be on the other side of Jin Mao from the Pearl Tower. Closer to SWFC than Jin Mao, making a triangle with the three buildings. Maybe the site that is being cleared in the background of the pictures in post#901.

This site is between Jin Mao and the Pearl Tower. This site is also being cleared at present. I have seen it in several pictures as well as walking past it in January.

In my architecture class today we talked about fires in buildings and my professor said in modern towers they use large diaganol beams to allow the top part of a building to fall off in the event of a collapse insead of pancake down to around the core.

I apologize for the shitty quality of this picture, but they had the blinds pulled in ol' Jinny. It made it very hard to get a decent shot. It was taken from the 56th floor lobby, so you can see how high it's getting. The cranes were at eye level.

I agree with JackInNYC that it seems like a long time, but that's because the reference points in the ground pictures make it difficult to judge the scale of what is going on. Nice shot Giallo from the other tower because it gives a better feeling for how monstrous the structure is. In the April 11th picture I'm left thinking, meh, it's not that tall. :)

I'd imagine they'll install steel frames to provide bracing for the elevator shafts. Since they're not using concrete for the insides, I'd assume they're going to use a drywall enclosed shaft.
