This is a newer building from the last 10 years or so on the corner of a major intersection. I commend it for at least trying to be more modern but how the 🞵🞵🞵🞵 did they think it was a good idea not to put in a single window facing the street on the front? This building houses high end women's clothing but you'd never guess it from outside.

Worth noting it has tons of skylights so it isn't dark inside. However, who ever designed it didn't give a single 🞵🞵🞵🞵 about anything outside the interior space. This thing is like a bunker to the outside world. I highly doubt this would be approved if it were being built now.

When they don't want outsiders to know what goes on inside. Maybe it is a place for a rub and tug (a la Jack Layton). We had one in London...right next to a really good Korean restaurant. All the windows were covered completely with black. Biker type guys would be seen entering, and swanky women smoking around the side. I remember my wife asking me: why would they block all the windows? And my reply was "When they don't want outsiders to know what goes on inside." Sure enough it got busted a few years ago by the cops (bawdy house)

It's a women's clothing store. Maybe they host underground walk offs on the weekends?

I know a lot of people universally hate commie blocks but for me they can be completely ok depending on the streetscape. First, the street needs lots of greenery. Second, they need to be flanked by smaller, human scaled buildings with limited setbacks or empty space (except well designed parks), and finally, there HAS to be a vibrant retail or services at the base. Without these things, it will be very bleak and, well Soviet. With them, the commie blocks (slabs) add heft and density that can actually improve an urban landscape compared to having only lowrise or the highrises being restricted to point towers.

The one thing I'll give commie blocks is they generally have pretty spacious units and also have good soundproofing as they tend to have serious concrete construction. Who knows with this newer one though.

This takes the cake for ugly stores. The lighting alone is soul sucking. Couple that with the sea of grandmas and the overwhelming smell of potpourri and Michael's would make Dr. Kavorkian proud. Ironic for an 'art' store.

This ugly addition the university put on this building. I believe it's the tallest pre-WWII building in Northern Ontario. All the addition is, is an extra stairwell with some rooms on the south side.

Windsor Park, our tallest pre-WWII building will now be abandoned this summer after Algoma University closes its downtown residence after only opening it three years ago because of declining enrollment.
