Yeah the Grid is a POS. It's sad to see CentreCourt give up on aA, becoming just another 100% greedy developer caring more about flipping for max value into another crappy straight to rentals development.

I believe it is 51 residential floors above and not including the commercial/retail podium which is why the rendering appears somewhat tall.

It looks more Toronto then Vancouver in style. I know how certain people hate wrap around balconies but I prefer them to the usual single balconies off each unit.

They have zoning regulations, FSR etc.. No viewcones, no height zones. It's basically on a case by case basis.

The two tallest Brentwood towers were authorized to go up to 70 storeys (not sure about the height in m), but the developer chose to built smaller than that. There was also a nearby building that was authorized for 50, but chose to build 40. So Burnaby is essentially letting the market decide the height on key projects.

As Burnaby also allows relatively tall buildings outside the main 4 town centres, they are pretty flexible.

Construction of a new 10-story, $30M Marriot Courtyard has begun in Lebourgneuf. Just like the part of town where it is being built, it is rather generic looking. Still, it is a big step up from what it is replacing:

Grid Condos is aimed at the student rental investor crowd and typically, looks like 🞵🞵🞵🞵--you must look past the great marketing here and investigate the typical P+S/IBI condo supply chain of grey spandrel, green glass and chipped precast.

Is the East Side going to start booming like the Entertainment District?

The east side of Adelaide/King/Richmond has been booming for as long as its west counterpart. Intensification has taken on an entirely different approach likely due to stronger zoning. Development is more human scaled.

This is further north than normal though.

And yes, there has been a huge inflow of development applications around Dundas recently. Most of them seem to be aimed at the investors who want to rent back to students going to Ryerson.
