Yeah, and with the envelope completed (insolated, except for where the hoist is) with windows, I wonder if they're going at the interior just has fast.

There's a West End group organising to protest Marcon's Barclay Street hotel proposal. They were set up at the West End Farmer's Market. Apparently "Approving this spot rezoning to CD-1 would open the floodgates to relentless development of high-rise towers in not only the West End but other residential neighbourhoods." Oh, and it might cause seismic instability, because it has a four floor underground parkade (ignoring the 20 storey tower on the same block built 35 years ago with underground parking). Their other argument is that the herons won't like it.

Their seismic concerns also include the weight of the building as a factor.

And the COV study on seismic risk they link to seems to be more about the type of buildings in these areas versus any actual geotechnical issues. "We live in a neighbourhood of rickety old seismically unsafe buildings so sticking a modern tower here is risky"

https://council.vancouver.ca/20241112/documents/r1.pdf

Or maybe the hotel will have a secret fracking operation in the parkade.

I though this was interesting, first i've heard of it, maybe has been mention here.
I say build. it's inevitable, in a 100 years, the West End will be different.

The Broughton social housing tower was mentioned here in January, when it was submitted. It's a vacant site, as the house that was here burned down in 2018. Assuming it's approved at the public hearing, the DP version will be slightly different, as the developer, The Bloom Group, have agreed to increase the proportion of 2-bed units to 20% (rather than the 10% they're currently proposing), so the unit count will go down slightly. It's already had the public consultation period, now it's headed to a public hearing for Council decision, with a staff recommendation for approval. Interestingly, the Urban Design Panel weren't consulted. They appear to be involved less often these days.

Yeah someone was on the radio this morning saying it didn't fit the context of the area, which was an interesting take seeing where it's located.

And for the concern of lot size, for me, every lot site size is deceiving to proposals and renderings.
When I saw the empty cleared lot of Burrard Place I said to myself, you are never going to get all that construction in there.
Look at 625 - 777 Pacific St. and 1390 Granville St. in pictures you can not see it but in person it looks so small.

58 Alexander Street is going to be removed as an SRO and divested since it's too small to redevelop as social housing.
