They just got permission to install a power shack to service the site so maybe they'll start work soon.

Regent Hotel renovation with conversion to self contained units, it’s now been unoccupied for seven years.

Application for the City owned site submitted by Marrick Architecture who previously worked on a similar conversion of the Pennsylvania Hotel and more recently on the Molson Bank building renovation which was kept as SRO.

Quote:
Scope of work will involve the rehabilitation of the existing Regent Hotel. The existing SRO housing units will be converted to self contained units which will contain a small bathroom and kitchenette. The existing building is 8 stories. The project aims to rehabilitate the character defining elements of the registered heritage building while completing a seismic upgrade, elevator upgrades and exiting upgrades. The project will also complete a full hazardous materials abatement. Note that this building is not currently occupied.

They finally filled the planters at Rosedale Garden (888 Hamilton).
Not sure what type of shrub it is (not camelias or gardenias?), but they are bushy and healthier than the yews they tried earlier with serious trunks on them.

Pics by me today.

That was my guess from the leaves, would need to see a bloom to confirm.

There have been some neon tubes out for quite some time.
Curious whether refurbish means a change to LED or just replacement neon tubes.

Seems like it's Portuguese Laurel. They can prune them into small trees.

I guess LED is possible. Imperial Signs is doing the work and they replaced the Lonsdale Quay Q with LED

https://www.nsnews.com/local-news/north-...the%20Q,Quay%20opened%2032%20years%20ago.

But seems like they also work with neon still like the Granville Island sign.

Cool, thanks!
I don't think I've seen that shrub around much.

Wiki says it's seen around the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.

Pics of white flowers nd fruit at the link.
