It's not hard to pick up on. I dated a Chinese-Canadian girl in high school and learned about the same thing. ESJ's read on the situation makes a fair amount of sense to me.

You know who else has to learn these kinds of things? Businessmen and bankers who do business in China.

Due to our labour shortages and highly unproductive housing construction methods, building {as Carney wants} 500k homes a year is impossible but using modular housing it is easily attainable and more.

Our developers have had their way for far too long and our critical shortage of housing reflects that. If we built cars the same way they did before the invention of the assembly line, we wouldn't have near as many as we need and they would be vastly more expensive yet someone this is how we still build our housing. Modular housing {for anything under 5 stories} is not only our BEST option but it is our ONLY option to meet our housing demands.

I am younger than you but my much older siblings, like you, were able to fund their way through university via their summer jobs and not our parents or loans.

This screams about the high cost of a university education, that is more and more not seen as an education but more of a leftist indoctrination unless one is in STEM.

All leftist criticism aside, even without that, the fact that a kid can't even have a full time summer job and fully fund their education is outrageous. The bloating of useless university bureaucracy along with the student loan scam leaving students with a pile of debt is loathsome.

Unlike Biden's plan, it is totally unfair to pay off these loans, someone has to go after the universities and it's unlikely they'll change until they are forced to.

The latest.........Chiang is out. He has apologized both publicly and to his opponent personally which is good but clearly Carney screwed up by not demanding his resignation yesterday. Clearly the Liberal Party and Carney saw this mistake and "asked" him to resign. That's one less noose around Carney's neck.

On a similar note, Mark Mackenzie, a city counsellor from Windsor, will not be allowed to run as a Conservative member. He has stated he believes in public hangings including for Trudeau and has likened Trudeau to serial killers like Manson & Dahmer.

I don't know what this means but tuition has increased at a far higher pace than inflation over the last ~20 years, if not longer.

They've also lost one in Montreal, who's had some pretty nasty things to say about the CPC.
I wonder how many candidates will be for the high jump because of social media posts or other ill-considered comments that come under scrutiny? I'm guessing as many as 10 before the campaign is over.

In Ontario, it means that the Province is not adequately funding tertiary education.

Yes, I’ve worked in Asia, and I’ve been very familiar with the Chinese concept of face most of my life.

It’s very clear that a lot of the posters here aren’t familiar with the concept of face, or don’t yet understand how Carney swiftly removing Chiang could have made Chiang lose more face than he had to… and how that could have negatively impacted his party’s chances with Chinese Canadians.

Moreover, had Carney removed him instead of letting him resign, like what has actually happened here, it would likely be a much bigger news story right now, which wouldn’t help the Liberals.

That's one way of looking at it. How about the universities are charging outrageous amounts for a diminishing product and any support to them should be curtailed until they get their bloated business model in order.

Back when I was protesting tuition increases (like a good little leftist) at least it was affordable. You could get a loan that wouldn't kill you to pay back.

I've worked in Singapore and Hong Kong as well, and now have regular jaunts to Markham. I can say without a doubt you are blowing up this face issue, and pushing this concept onto unwitting Chinese Canadian voters (especially the HK and Taiwanese contingents) that do not agree with you. It's fine if that's your personal stance, but don't push it onto the community like you speak for them.

I have heard this time and again from people I know in business, they can't get people to work. They are offering more money than I was paid (and able to save) and retire early on. I had a guy tell me the other day that a woman tried to bribe a crew to work for her and they wouldn't (just didn't care)

A serious question...

The public displays of affection between Pierre and Anaida - today "Two hearts, one Rock" with them in an embrace. The kissing before and after each announcement or campaign stop. Do they have internal polling that makes him more likeable the more he does this with her? Is he trying to make people forget about his previous girlfriend Jenni Byrne? Is this his attempt to woo the female voter?

I get after a convention or acceptance speech or one or two rallies over the course of the campaign. None of the other leaders are doing this.

I find it nauseating and him trying way too hard. Isn't it all a bit much?

They forgot me too. Born in Montreal, lived in Quebec for 3/5 of my life, bilingual, with bilingual kids, but I don't quite count. I'm just a dastardly Anglo-Quebecker that won't always stay in his lane...

I remember in the 90's/2000's, modular homes were quite common in New Brunswick. Kent Homes (Irvings of course) was a major supplier, and it was common to see houses, and half houses rolling up and down the TCH through the summer.

I haven't paid attention more recently; they don't seem quite as common, but the knowledge and much of the infrastructure is probably still around I suspect.

It's calculated - shows PP's "softer side" and generates a contrast with Carney's older, less politically-involved family. I guess that matters for some.

They looked to be getting into tiny (micro) homes a while back (I have always loved the concept) but it didn't last very long.
