And it wasn’t $5 billion. More like $30 billion. That the private sector woulda paid if it hadn’t been for all the political interference. Remember that “every tool in toolbox” to block the pipeline. That sure did come back to bight the BC NDP, now that their taxpayers are on the hook.

That is not necessarily true. I did work on that project in 2019, and it was Kinder Morgan, who overestimated the economic benefit of the project, and withdrew from it. There was initial opposition from BC, but that was toned down. Kinder Morgan did not want to provide much information in terms of spill clean up and prevention.

Kinder Morgan also did not bother to do much consulting, if any, with First Nations groups that owned land in the path of the pipeline. Just a typical greedy oil company wanting to push through a pipeline, without any kind of environmental oversight. When the return on the project was not as great as what KM told their shareholders, they got cold feet, and walked away from it, leaving the Federal Government to make sure it was completed.
